Hi, the members of this WG might like to comment on the charter for this new
WG. please use the "media-types@ietf.org" list.

It may be that there should be some cross-discussion about this new
"haptics" top-level MIME type with CELLAR when the WG is chartered.

I've forwarded the entire email, but I wanted to highlight:

and from draft-muthusamy-dispatch-haptics:

2. Background and Justification

Haptic signals provide an additional layer of entertainment and
sensory immersion for the user. Haptic tracks, in separate files,
can be combined with audio/video files and played back in sync to
provide an overall immersive media experience (audio, visual,
tactile) for the user. More recently, haptic tracks embedded in
standard file formats such as ISOBMFF (ISO Base Media File Format),
enable playback of the haptic signals over one or more actuators,
simultaneously with audio and video playback.

A small tweak.

Most of the discussions I see about media types relate to NETCONF and
YANG. The text below talks of programming languages. I would like that
expanded to be clear that it includes YANG, if not all such DDL.

The registrations thereof might have been different had multiple
suffixes been specified.

Hi, Michael,

I'm digging out of a week of vacation, but saw this email, and wondered if
we were thinking more "fix CircleCi" or more "move to GitHub Actions".

That's an alternative being discussed here:
https://github.com/martinthomson/i-d-template/issues/293

More as I read email, of course.

Best,

Spencer

I mostly just clicked on stuff over the weekend, and thought to enable
CircleCI for CELLAR.

It seems mostly related to MIME types. We don't use MIME types for media =

type identifications, just for attachments.

The haptics track is interesting and something we should definitely=20
support. It seems it would fall under the "control" (32) track type.

We do define some "unofficial" MIME types for Matroska:
* .mka : Matroska audio `audio/x-matroska`
* .mkv : Matroska video `video/x-matroska`
* .mk3d : Matroska 3D video `video/x-matroska-3d`

I don't know if we should register official ones. The Internet is=20
probably using these everywhere already. Not sure there is much benefit=20
apart from making them more official.

> Haptic signals provide an additional layer of entertainment and
> sensory immersion for the user. Haptic tracks, in separate files,
> can be combined with audio/video files and played back in sync to
> provide an overall immersive media experience (audio, visual,

I finally rewrote the parts about timestamp handling:
https://github.com/ietf-wg-cellar/matroska-specification/pull/521

Things are now expressed as ticks: Matroska, Segment, Track. Segment and =

Track being the same if TrackTimestampScale is left to 1.0.

There's a paragraph explaining the rounding that the muxer should use,=20
knowing the correct sampling rate, to write "ticks" that can be=20
interpreted by the reader accurately to match the samples.

The example you found was not correct seem to match with the formula I=20
gave for the muxer and the demuxer. It's a bit counter intuitive as the=20
muxer has to estimate the drift that will occur on the Reader math to=20
write the value that may not end up giving the proper tick value.

Given the Segment and Track ticks are always(*) the same, the same=20
applies to the ticks stored in `Cluster\Timestamp`. And that's where=20
most of the drift happens, given a Cluster contains only 65535 ticks.=20
I'm not sure existing muxers use that. Otherwise they probably have a=20
slight drift in timestamps.

(*) pending=20
https://github.com/ietf-wg-cellar/matroska-specification/pull/437 we may =

or may not use the `TrackTimestampScale` again so that the tick to store =

is also be the sample number.

Visually lossless is a marketing wording for saying "we are aware that
this is not really lossless" ;-).
(in practice they focus on 10:1 compression ratio, something between the
targeted 1000:1 compression ratio of AV1 or HEVC, and ~3:1 real lossless
of FFV1)
