Hello Jouni:

Thanks a bunch for posting this!

I read the need of time sync is pervasive. But do you have cases where rep=
lication and elimination would be of use?=20
I see a requirement of 10^-9 but then that one is over one hop?

Typo left P4: architecural=20

All the best,

Pascal

The issue with replication really is the traffic volume - you do not want t=
o double your pain you are already having today. If future developments on =
the radio bring the traffic volumes to sane numbers replication could be us=
eful, since there is no really room for retransmissions or forward error co=
ding schemes that require interleaving.

That is over one hop.

Pascal,

Sorry for being mute for a while. I checked the preliminary agenda for the =
BoF from the wiki and got a couple of quick comments. I would move architec=
ture document before any other sustaining I-Ds and maybe even the charter w=
ork.

The agenda is also very packed. Do you think we have enough time for overal=
l discussion during the "online editing" part? I also think we need some 5 =
minutes for the general chaos & administrative work at the beginning (like =
steal that from the architecture prez). We might consider merging "sustaini=
ng documents" into fewer presentations, maybe even into one (with a slide f=
rom each pointing out the "why DetNet" message). Having 4 rapid prez with 4=
presenters might not be a good idea.

Folks,

Our DetNet BoF has been approved for the IETF#93. This is really great news=
and.. a lot of work ahead the coming month to prepare for a successful BoF=
. Thanks for everyone for their efforts so far, specifically to Erik who wo=
rked a lot behind the scenes.

There are still concerns from IESG/IAB that our scope is somewhat overwhelm=
ing. We need to scope things and pick up realistic topics & concrete use ca=
ses that are solvable in few year time span. Also, we need to avoid placing=
requirements on other SDOs (data planes/link layers) or having unrealistic=
 requirements e.g. on routers.

If you have a full room I think it would be hard to do word-smithing in
real-time. But it is important to go over the charter - and in
particular to make sure that folks understand what the concrete
deliverables would be. By "concrete" I mean less of document
deliverables and more of "after 12-24 months technical issue A, B, and
C will be addressed allowing deployments that do X Y and Z."

So while an architecture document is important to make sure the pieces
fit together, I think success is more likely if it is built from the
ground up.
A key aspect of the architecture is to allow folks to later generalize
pieces and e.g., add some other control or signalling plane mechanism.
But without a initial small set the WG risks trying to boil the ocean.

Thus structuring the agenda so that folks can talk about what I labeled
as A-C and X-Z above would be helpful to ensure that folks are on the
same page.

> I also think we need some 5 minutes for the general chaos & administrative work at the beginning (like steal that from the architecture prez). We might consider merging "sustaining documents" into fewer presentations, maybe even into one (with a slide from each pointing out the "why DetNet" message). Having 4 rapid prez with 4 presenters might not be a good idea.

Hi Pat,

Who do you expect to answer the questions/present at the 'User's view' poin=
t? Out of the 6 I-Ds listed at https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/search/?nam=
e=3Ddetnet&activedrafts=3Don, 3 include use cases.=20

What about proposed/possible solutions? I assume these are somehow included=
in the WG scope and deliverables, but maybe they deserve a separate point =
in the agenda.=20

Concluding discussions - this actually means asking the typical WG forming =
BOF questions, right? Maybe this needs to be spelled out explicitely.=20

Thanks and Regards,

Dan

Dan,

Right -- these drafts/authors plus the 6TiSCH draft authors. Also, if
there are others who wish to present Pat and I will discuss this with
them once they contact us -- opening this up was part of the reason for
the message.

Yes. We also see this as part of the problem statement for the WG. The
first deliverable in the proposed charter
(http://trac.tools.ietf.org/bof/trac/wiki/DetNet) is the overall
architecture. Certainly there are possible/plausible solutions and this
will be covered as part of the WG Problem Statement -- but is for the WG
to decided on a specific solution.

Sure, we can add it as a subtopic of problem statement.

BTW Proposed WG deliverables can be found on the BoF Wiki.

I thought we did. I guess "Typical WG forming BoF Concluding
Discussion" might have been more explicit -- but a bit overkill, no?

Thank you for the feedback!
