The consensus was that since were defining mappings for ITU and DMTF codes to ones for this MIB, that there really wasn't an "ownership" issue, addressing the concerns in points (1) and (2). Point (3) is addressed in the IANA considerations section, though the WG specifically decided that it did NOT want to become "immortal". Point (4) is accomodated by the description text, with the complete citations in the references section. The consensus was that since were defining mappings for ITU and DMTF codes to ones for this MIB, that there really wasn't an "ownership" issue, addressing the concerns in points (1) and (2). Point (3) is addressed in the IANA considerations section, though the WG specifically decided that it did NOT want to become "immortal". Point (4) is accomodated by the description text, with the complete citations in the references section. I changed the subject line, as Sharon might have been confused as well. I do not understand the claim that the ITU folks are making. We never committed to build in this MIB a perfect replica of the ITU mapping. We certainly aimed to be as close as possible to the ITU specs, but this was not the higher priority goal. I think that your answer to them did not make this point clear enough, as they continue to talk about 'ITU-T semantics' being 'the most important aspect to retain'. Anyway, I do not think that there is a problem in this specific case. It looks like the comment in the text before value 158 is supposed to describe the meaning, which seems to conform to 'reinitialized' . Maybe the placement of the comment is confusing. I do not have right now access to the ITU specs, but Sharon can confirm (or inform) my assumptions. We just need to follow-up and say its been solved. I think it makes sense to accommodate these external requirements when it does not adversely impact the work from the point of view of our requirements or schedule. In the case of the input from the study group 4 on probably causes, I have found this useful since the people within that group are more familiar with probable causes then I am. (as opposed to a clear state.) I see a couple of different possibilities and was wondering which one is the right one: 1. The previously active state is moved to the "cleared" alarm table to note it as a "historical" alarm. The new active state is added to the activeAlarm table. - The problem with this approach is it looks like their are two different alarms (and one has cleared), when in reality there is only one alarm that has transitioned from one active state to another over the course of its life. 2. The new active alarm state simply "replaces" the previously active alarm state in the alarmActive table. - The problem here is you lose information about the previous alarm state. This option seems unacceptable. 3. The new active alarm state replaces the previous state, and the previous state is added as a "historical" state for that active alarm instance. - This seems like the best solution, but is this supported by the current model? Here is an example of what I mean: Suppose a simple "Temperature" alarm model exists and has states of: Temperature Normal (clear) Temperature Minor Temperature Major Temperature Critical When a "Temperature Minor" alarm condition is detected, the alarm is added to the activeAlarm table and any triggering event information is associated with it. What happens when if the alarm transitions from Minor to Major, or from Minor to Critical? Should one activeAlarm instance track these state transitions explicitly over the course of its life? Or is each state transition viewed as a separate alarm?
