A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Dispatch WG of the IETF.

Title : ECMAScript Media Types Updates
        Authors : Matthew A. Miller
                          Myles Borins
                          Mathias Bynens
                          Bradley Farias
	Filename : draft-ietf-dispatch-javascript-mjs-10.txt
	Pages : 28
	Date : 2021-10-12

Abstract:
This document describes the registration of media types for the
ECMAScript and JavaScript programming languages and conformance
requirements for implementations of these types. This document
obsoletes RFC4329, "Scripting Media Types", replacing the previous
registrations for "text/javascript" and "application/javascript" with
information and requirements aligned with implementation experiences.

Hello Dispatch,

Recently, we published a new draft to IETF entitled =
"draft-secure-credential-transfer=E2=80=9D.

The current revision is 01.

I am sending this email to the Dispatch distribution in order to kick =
off a discussion around the draft, and establish the appropriate working =
group.

The working group may be an existing working group or we may endeavor to =
create a new one. If the dispatch team could assist us with this =
decision that would be great.

A link to our draft is here:
https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-secure-credential-transfer-01.html

The required participants for the initial discussion would be, at a =
minimum, the full list of authors:

The IESG has received a request from the Dispatch WG (dispatch) to consider
the following document: - 'ECMAScript Media Types Updates'
  <draft-ietf-dispatch-javascript-mjs-10.txt> as Informational RFC

The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits final
comments on this action. Please send substantive comments to the
last-call@ietf.org mailing lists by 2021-11-15. Exceptionally, comments may
be sent to iesg@ietf.org instead. In either case, please retain the beginning
of the Subject line to allow automated sorting.

Abstract

This document describes the registration of media types for the
ECMAScript and JavaScript programming languages and conformance
requirements for implementations of these types. This document
obsoletes RFC4329, "Scripting Media Types", replacing the previous
registrations for "text/javascript" and "application/javascript" with
information and requirements aligned with implementation experiences.

I'm not familiar with this draft, but a quick note on the encryption:
instead of re-specifying AES-GCM from the NIST reference here, I think you
should probably reference the IANA AEAD registry [1]. That will save you
some text and improve algorithmic agility.

For compatibility reasons, it may be appropriate to define AEAD_AES_128_GCM
and AEAD_AES_255_GCM as "mandatory to implement", which would seem to
reproduce the current requirements.

Reviewer: Mark Nottingham
Review result: Ready with Nits

This document is ready for publication, with two small nits / questions about
the content.

## Nits

- In Section 3, the reader is left hanging -- I expected a statement along the
lines of 'The media types in this document allow such out of band information
to be conveyed.'

- Throughout, the phrase 'is not considered part of this document' is a bit odd
-- do you mean 'is not controlled by this document' or similar?

I noticed the wiki has been updated and I don't see all the past
information about how work items were dispatched. I would have expected to
at least see a link and have an annotation that it's no longer being
updated. I personally found it very helpful (although, I'm biased
because I worked hard to keep it up to date).

It is available under update 144, however for anyone else that was
wondering: https://trac.ietf.org/trac/dispatch/wiki/WikiStart?version=144

It is a good way to easily track stats for how proposals were progressed
(or not). I would periodically go back and update things once WGs were
officially formed, etc.

Regards,
Mary.
