The dtn-server-tuple option should NOT be set on the server side

I think this was how you had things configured in the last email, given the log files.

You should have to run 'wwwoffle -fetch_dtn' on the client in order to cause it to talk to the wwwoffle_dtn server. Again, the log from your previous email seemed to show this

 From your previous email:
    Clients logs
central:~# lynx http://cursos.ehas.org
central:~# tail -f /var/log/syslog
May 17 15:23:48 (none) wwwoffled[2856]: Running with root user or group privileges is not recommended.
May 17 15:23:48 (none) wwwoffled[2856]: fSpoolDir opened(6)
May 17 15:23:48 (none) wwwoffled[2858]: Detached2 from terminal and changed pid to 2858.
May 17 15:23:48 (none) wwwoffled[2858]: DTN Support enabled -- starting server pieces...
May 17 15:23:48 (none) wwwoffled[2860]: do_dtn_server connected to dtnd
May 17 15:23:48 (none) wwwoffled[2858]: DTNServerTuple: 'dtn://volatil.gbt.tfo.upm.es.dtn' -- Fetch operations redirected.
May 17 15:24:20 (none) wwwoffles[2866]: doImmediateOptions set: redirecting to 'http://localhost:8080/refresh-options/?http://cursos.ehas.org/'
May 17 15:24:36 (none) wwwoffled[2858]: WWWOFFLE Connection from host localhost (127.0.0.1).
May 17 15:24:36 (none) wwwoffled[2858]: WWWOFFLE DTN FETCH
May 17 15:24:36 (none) wwwoffled[2858]: Opening connection to local DTN daemon

Here's the client getting a bundle back from the server:

May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: about to untar bundle from wwwoffle server
May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: bundle payload name (/tmp/bundlePayload_pcQYw1)
May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: (tar -C /var/spool/wwwoffle -xPjf /tmp/bundlePayload_pcQYw1 >& /dev/null)
May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: dtnNotify: entered topDir(/var/spool/wwwoffle/http)
May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: leaving dtnNotify
So when you had things configured as before, it looked like it was working. Is it possible that the wwwoffle_dtn server couldn't get to the cursos.ehas.org page? I think that would cause it to return no results to the client.

If you're facile with tcpdump, you could watch traffic between the wwwoffle client/server and see if there's traffic on port 5000, and also on the server and see if it looks like it's succeeding in getting the pages.

Hi Keith,

I did what you suggested me but I continue with problems. I continue thinking that the problem is in my configuration because although I specify that I want DTN support in the client the bundles are not generated.

Answering your questions:

1) The user running the wwwoffled(dtn user) can write in the /var/spool/wwwoffle/http (in fact at some moment I used root user to be sure)
dtn@central:~$ ls -l /var/spool/wwwoffle/
total 7
drwxr-xr-x 11 dtn dtn 1024 Apr 25 11:44 html
drwxr-x--- 2 dtn dtn 1024 May 19 11:36 http
drwxr-xr-x 2 dtn dtn 1024 May 19 11:06 lastout
drwxr-xr-x 2 dtn dtn 1024 May 19 11:35 lasttime
drwxr-x--- 2 dtn dtn 1024 Apr 25 11:44 local
drwxr-x--- 2 dtn dtn 1024 Apr 25 11:44 monitor
drwxr-x--- 2 dtn dtn 1024 May 23 09:02 outgoing

2) the http directory is empty
dtn@central:~$ ls -lR /var/spool/wwwoffle/http
/var/spool/wwwoffle/http:
total 0

but the outgoing directory is no empty

central:/home/dtn# ls -l /var/spool/wwwoffle/outgoing/
total 2
-rw-r--r-- 1 dtn dtn 385 May 23 10:30 Ox5M+BAgGhg9JkXlTrkJeTA
-rw-r--r-- 1 dtn dtn 119 May 23 10:30 Ux5M+BAgGhg9JkXlTrkJeTA

3) The user running the wwwoffled have write permission on /tmp directory, and there is no bundles in there
dtn@central:~$ ls -l /
total 37
drwxrwxrwt 2 root root 2048 May 23 09:08 tmp

dtn@central:~$ ls -l /tmp/
total 0

Well I have to setup the sendmail for se the notifications.

Here are some comments about the wwwoffle_dtn configuration file:

In the client wwwoffle_dtn configurations I followed your advice:

 dtn-instafetch = yes

The dtn-server-tuple option needs to be set in the CLIENT side -- it
tells the client which wwwoffle_dtn server to connect to.
The dtn-server-tuple option should NOT be set on the server side
=20
I think this was how you had things configured in the last email, given
the log files.
=20
You should have to run 'wwwoffle -fetch_dtn' on the client in order to
cause it to talk to the wwwoffle_dtn server. Again, the log from your
previous email seemed to show this
=20
>From your previous email:

	Clients logs
	central:~# lynx http://cursos.ehas.org
	central:~# tail -f /var/log/syslog
May 17 15:23:48 (none) wwwoffled[2856]: Running with root user
or group privileges is not recommended.
	May 17 15:23:48 (none) wwwoffled[2856]: fSpoolDir opened(6)
	May 17 15:23:48 (none) wwwoffled[2858]: Detached2 from terminal

Here's the client getting a bundle back from the server:

=09
May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: about to untar bundle
from wwwoffle server
May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: bundle payload name
(/tmp/bundlePayload_pcQYw1)
	May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: (tar -C
/var/spool/wwwoffle -xPjf /tmp/bundlePayload_pcQYw1 >& /dev/null)
	May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: dtnNotify: entered
topDir(/var/spool/wwwoffle/http)
	May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: leaving dtnNotify

So when you had things configured as before, it looked like it was
working. Is it possible that the wwwoffle_dtn server couldn't get to
the cursos.ehas.org page? I think that would cause it to return no
results to the client.
=20
If you're facile with tcpdump, you could watch traffic between the
wwwoffle client/server and see if there's traffic on port 5000, and
also on the server and see if it looks like it's succeeding in getting
the pages.

	Hi Keith,
=09
I did what you suggested me but I continue with problems. I
continue thinking that the problem is in my configuration because
although I specify that I want DTN support in the client the bundles
are not generated.=20
=09
	Answering your questions:
=09
	1) The user running the wwwoffled(dtn user) can write in the
/var/spool/wwwoffle/http (in fact at some moment I used root user to be
sure)
	dtn@central:~$ ls -l /var/spool/wwwoffle/
	total 7
	drwxr-xr-x 11 dtn dtn 1024 Apr 25 11:44 html
	drwxr-x--- 2 dtn dtn 1024 May 19 11:36 http
	drwxr-xr-x 2 dtn dtn 1024 May 19 11:06 lastout
	drwxr-xr-x 2 dtn dtn 1024 May 19 11:35 lasttime
	drwxr-x--- 2 dtn dtn 1024 Apr 25 11:44 local
	drwxr-x--- 2 dtn dtn 1024 Apr 25 11:44 monitor
	drwxr-x--- 2 dtn dtn 1024 May 23 09:02 outgoing
=09
	2) the http directory is empty
	dtn@central:~$ ls -lR /var/spool/wwwoffle/http
	/var/spool/wwwoffle/http:
	total 0
=09
but the outgoing directory is no empty
=09
	central:/home/dtn# ls -l /var/spool/wwwoffle/outgoing/
	total 2
	-rw-r--r-- 1 dtn dtn 385 May 23 10:30 Ox5M+BAgGhg9JkXlTrkJeTA
	-rw-r--r-- 1 dtn dtn 119 May 23 10:30 Ux5M+BAgGhg9JkXlTrkJeTA
=09
	3) The user running the wwwoffled have write permission on /tmp
directory, and there is no bundles in there
	dtn@central:~$ ls -l /
	total 37
	drwxrwxrwt 2 root root 2048 May 23 09:08 tmp
=09
	dtn@central:~$ ls -l /tmp/
	total 0
=09
Well I have to setup the sendmail for se the notifications.
=09
Here are some comments about the wwwoffle_dtn configuration

Well, the problem is basically identified by the error message:

> when i start the second daemon, there is one error message:
> [1148241960.861947 /apiserver/21 error] error binding to 127.0.0.1:5010:
> Address already in use

The API server, i.e. the part of the daemon that interacts with
applications, needs to bind to a local TCP port to do its job. Since
you already have something listening on that port (the first daemon),
the second daemon can't claim it.

To do what you want, you need to make sure that each daemon listens on
a separate port for everything. In particular, you need to call 'api
set local_port XXXX' for the API server. However, you'll need to do
similar things for any convergence layer interfaces that you need to
configure between the two nodes, the console interface if you use it,
etc.

Probably the best way to figure out what you need to do is to run the
test utility that we have set up for running multiple daemons on one
node.

Specifically, you can run:

% test-utils/run-dtn.tcl --local-rundir -d test/send-one-bundle.tcl

This will run a simple test that starts three daemon processes on the
local host, connects them all using TCP convergence layer links, then
sends a bundle from node 2 to node 0 and ensures that it arrives
properly. The details of the test are mostly irrelevant however...

What does matter to you is that after the test script exits, there
will be three new directories created in the current directory called
run-0, run-1, and run-2. Each of which contains a bunch of files used
by the testing scripts to run a specific virtual node, but the
relevant one is called 'send-one-bundle.conf'.

That is the dtnd configuration used to set up the three-node network
on the same host, specifying distinct localhost ports for all the
services that need them. You can use that output as a template for
your own configuration file.

I continue thinking that the problem is in my configuration because although I specify that I want DTN support in the client the bundles are not generated. <br> <br>Answering your questions:<br> <br> 1) The user running the wwwoffled(dtn user) can write in the /var/spool/wwwoffle/http (in fact at some moment I used root user to be sure)<br> dtn@central:~$ ls -l /var/spool/wwwoffle/<br> total 7<br> drwxr-xr-x&nbsp; 11 dtn dtn 1024 Apr 25 11:44 html<br> drwxr-x---&nbsp;&nbsp; 2 dtn dtn 1024 May 19 11:36 http<br> drwxr-xr-x&nbsp;&nbsp; 2 dtn dtn 1024 May 19 11:06 lastout<br> drwxr-xr-x&nbsp;&nbsp; 2 dtn dtn 1024 May 19 11:35 lasttime<br> drwxr-x---&nbsp;&nbsp; 2 dtn dtn 1024 Apr 25 11:44 local<br> drwxr-x---&nbsp;&nbsp; 2 dtn dtn 1024 Apr 25 11:44 monitor<br> drwxr-x---&nbsp;&nbsp; 2 dtn dtn 1024 May 23 09:02 outgoing<br> <br>2) the http directory is empty<br> dtn@central:~$ ls -lR

hello,

I want to configure two dtn on one computer. I have made changes to the
configuration files. I can start the first daemon successfully:
thoth ~/dtn_2.2.0 75 % daemon/dtnd -c ../home/fred/dtn/dtn.conf --init-db
[1148241949.020381 /dtnd notice] DTN daemon starting up... (pid 5581)

[1148241949.075980 /dtnd error] Initializing datastore which already
exists.
thoth ~/dtn_2.2.0 76 % daemon/dtnd -c ../home/fred/dtn/dtn.conf

[1148241957.186799 /bundle/daemon notice] loading bundles from data store
dtn%

when i start the second daemon, there is one error message:
[1148241960.861947 /apiserver/21 error] error binding to 127.0.0.1:5010:
Address already in use

The whole message for the second daemon is :
thoth ~/dtn_2.2.0 84 % daemon/dtnd -c ../home/tom/dtn/dtn.conf --init-db
[1148241952.864718 /dtnd notice] DTN daemon starting up... (pid 5584)

It seems i can still do the dtnping to each other, however the dtnsend &
dtnrecv is not successful. Following is the configuration file made to
daemons.

Configuration file 1:
#
# dtn.conf
#

# daemon uses a tcl interpreter to parse this file, thus any standard
# tcl commands are valid, and all settings are get/set using a single

It seems i can't change the binging address, which probably is the reason.
Would Demmer or somebody else can give a suggestion? Thanks a lot.

Hi,
=20
1) Setting the gateway on the client side shouldn't have any effect.
Leaving it as none is probably good.
2) You shouldn't have to issue a wwwoffle -fetch operation by hand on
the server side -- that should get done for you (provided the wwwoffle
application is in the path of the shell executing the server side
wwwoffled)
=20
This chunk of log:
May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: about to untar bundle from
wwwoffle server
May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: bundle payload name
(/tmp/bundlePayload_pcQYw1)
    May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: (tar -C
/var/spool/wwwoffle -xPjf /tmp/bundlePayload_pcQYw1 >& /dev/null)
    May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: dtnNotify: entered
topDir(/var/spool/wwwoffle/http)
    May 17 15:24:47 (none) wwwoffled[2862]: leaving dtnNotify

is telling me that the client side got a response from the server,
attempted to load the pages into the cache, and then tried to notify
you (if you asked for notification) .
=20
Thanks for the log chunks, by the way, they are quite helpful. Could I
ask a few other questions:
=20
If you try to access the page again, is now it in the cache of the
client?
What are the contents of /var/spool/wwwoffle/http? [ls -lR
/var/spool/wwwoffle/http]
The user running the wwwoffled client can write to
/var/spool/wwwoffle/http, right?
Is 'tar' in the path of the client side wwwoffled?
The user running the wwwoffled client can write to /tmp, right?
Are there a bunch of bundlePayload files in /tmp? If so, what are
their sizes and contents ['tar -tvf /tmp/bundlePayload_XXXXX']
=20
I think the mailto: notification works. If you have sendmail running on
the client side wwwoffled machine and it can actually send mail (i.e.
not blocked by some firewall), you can try mailto://you@emailaddress
and the client wwwoffled should try to send you mail in the dtnNotify
function. It'd be interesting to know what it says.
=20
The fact that the client thinks it got an answer from the server means
that bundles are flowing in both directions. Depending on write
permissions in the various directories it's possible for the bundles to
be empty (like if you can't write to /var/spool/wwwoffle/outgoing on
the client, e.g., I think it will generate an empty request bundle that
will probably invoke an empty response).

Looks like you've got a problem in the arguments you're passing to
dtnsend. In particular, you seem to be using the old "bundles://"
syntax instead of the currently supported "dtn://"

So the following:

% dtnsend/dtnsend -s bundles://internet/host://jaspis.hut.fi.dtn/me \
  -d bundles://internet/host://jaspis.hut.fi.dtn/testing -t m -p "testing"

should instead be:

% dtnsend/dtnsend -s dtn://jaspis.hut.fi.dtn/me \
  -d dtn://jaspis.hut.fi.dtn/testing -t m -p "testing"

-m

hello,

I have installed DTN2 and try doing something with it.

Firstly, i just do it on one computer. The dtnping works correctly. Then i
use dtnsend to send a message. it seems this is also working. I have found
the message from the bundle file. Howeverr, when i try to use dtnrecv
command to get the message. I can't succeed. It can register successfully.
Unfortunatelly never gets any infomation. I have listed here the log for 2
windows. Here is the log in one window:
