In January, I found I had to turn off the cast alignment warning in Rules.mak(s) and tweak the apps options parsing routine to use unsigned chars (I think) explicitly, see previous post on the dtn- users list. I had a go at native compilation again on Sunday, but a few hours later put my laptop to sleep and lost the shell session. I had another go and noticed it had got into the apps directory again before what looks like a similar compiler error occurred and I got distracted by something else. I must remember to use screen for long builds on that box. Anyway, it looks almost good to go, in its current state, possibly with a bit of massaging in the apps region. Functionally, I've found dtnd to be solid on my NSLU2, which has a 160GB USB disk for its / filesystem (less a couple of GBs of swap), and ran it for 77 days without reboot (finally caving in to the Etch release dist-upgrade). Its running with about 1MB free RAM Ping works, but I've not really tried the other apps on any of the ARM gear. I'm not really sure what state they are in at the moment. I'll probably try out dtntunnel on the n800 soon though. I haven't really stressed the NSLU2 either, being down in the weeds at 1200 baud (loopback,not RF) at the farest reaches of my experimental household DTN ;-) I'll knock up a patch when its built. By the way, I'm curious to know which parts of the TCP-CL were changed in the recent check-in, as I forked my AX.25 Connected Mode CL from CVS in January, and I've yet to look into reconciling any changes. My CL is pretty much a direct clone of the TCP-CL down to the AX.25Socket clone of IPSocket. Note that before using Prophet, there were no known problems with my little DTN which used purely static routing for a long time, then recently switched to using IP discovery. 1) Running dtnd configured for a Prophet router on my Apple iBook G4 (PowerPC) running Mac OS X 10.4.9 kills all of the other dtnds (Linux/x86 and Linux/armel) running Prophet routing on my network with the following error message in their logs and a stack trace. I've not bothered posting the stack trace, as I suspect that the problem is an issue with the PowerPC build. PANIC at ../servlib/routing/Prophet.h:675: Unrecognized prophet HF code 0 If this is a previously unknown issue and not a simple one to find/ fix, then I'll reconfigure to use Prophet again and get some Wireshark captures of the traffic to help diagnose the cause. I've not looked at any of the Prophet code yet. See 2 below for a little more information. 2) I thought that I could get away with using the static router on my iBook and Prophet elsewhere, with a static link from the iBook out to my NSLU2 which is the internet facing dtnd on my home DTN and accepts non-local connections via SSH tunnels only. It seems that this approach doesn't work, as the NSLU2, running the Prophet router, was happy to talk to the other nodes running Prophet, but wasn't at all interested in talking BP to the iBook, with its static router, even though the Opportunistic link coming in over SSH shows up in the link dump on the NSLU2. Note that nothing PANICS in this configuration, even with the iBook's IP announce turned on, as long as the iBook's not trying to participate in the Prophet interactions. 3) Is it theoretically and/or practically possible (with DTN2 & Prophet) to use static routes and/or links in addition to the Opportunistic links that arise from using Prophet alone? 4) If the answer to 4 above is yes, is it also theoretically/ practically possible to use Prophet in two regions which are linked by non-IP paths (i.e. using a different convergence layer, i.e. LTP or AX.25). If so, does this depend on the implementation of a discovery mechanism for those other CLs in order for Prophet to work? 5) With the static router, I've always used explicit next-hop routes for each destination dtnd (until I started using announce/ discovery). Along the lines of the forum post, the client to server proxy was easy since we could tell the client to send it's data to a local port (that in this case is a listening port created by my dtnjabber application), but there is no obvious way to do this for server to server communications. The server just looks at the to field (ex. user1@server2) it looks at the domain after the '@' symbol and if it isn't it's local dns name, it hands it off to the server to server module and makes a direct connection to the other server just by looking at the the dns name after the @ symbol, and there is no way to tell it to send data to a local port instead of a direct connection to server2. My suspicion is that in order to get this to work we'll need to develop a replacement server to server module (everything except the core xml router in jabber is just a module that the xml router passes stuff between) and this replacement module would just use the DTN application API natively, instead of a proxy type solution. The problem there is the jabber server we're using from what I can tell only provides a Java API for module development, which is a problem since the DTN API is in c++. Chuah is convinced there is an easy way to intercept server to server packets and redirect them through DTN, and thus wanted me to probe for any ideas on the list. At least it will be easy on this machine ;-) Meanwhile, I knocked up a logging toggle to minimise IPDiscovery error logging output during intermittent connectivity, whilst ignoring sendto errors. Here's a patch if you want to use it (at end). I've tried it on the PPC iBook and the n800 and seems to run OK. I'm not sure what other errors might be expected from sendto, so feel free to ignore it if you like. BTW, I've still got some issues with intermittent strange socket state in my AX.25 Connected Mode CL, which I think I need to solve before committing it to CVS. Sometimes a socket will be shown in netstat as Listening, but also with a peer listed, as if it were connected. Any subsequent attempts to connect on the same link (destination_callsign:SSID) fail. I'm not really sure if the issue is one of a (perhaps historical) bug (somewhere) causing the strange socket state, or if there is an error condition that isn't being robustly handled. My CL was forked from the TCP-CL in January 07, and is pretty much a straight clone down to the IPSocket level. Is there anything particularly relevant that you can think of that I should look at? I suppose I should take a look for any BBN changes to the TCP-CL and see if anything needs modification in my CL. Still, I feel that it is worth keeping the discovery mechanism running and I can't think of any really good reason for not ignoring this (and perhaps) other errors. Both are 32-bit ARM (little endian). If you're after something really small (but not on a PIC scale), a colleague has had DTN2 running on a gumstix, which might fit the bill. I recommend building with the Berkeley DB code, which seems to work quite well. I have not heard anything about PIC processor support. I would guess (given that the PIC appears to be an 8/16 bit chip) that it would be difficult to get DTN2 to work on it. I've seen DTN2 work on 32 and 64-bit chips only. There is a C# version that is in development at Georgia Tech, but I have never seen anything about a CLR (.Net or Mono) for 16-bit machines.
