When DTN establishes a link between two nodes, it adds a route by default to reach the next hop. Therefore, because there is a direct link between G and S, regardless of which side opens the link, then bundles can flow in either direction. Similarly, bundles can flow between G and R, just because you have the link from G to R. The problem you're encountering is that there's no route from R -> G in your latter configuration. So R has no way of knowing how to send the bundles. Here's a configuration that will work for you and will only open one TCP connection: S configuration: link add Gateway G:5000 ALWAYSON tcp route add R.dtn Gateway G configuration: link add Receiver R:5000 ALWAYSON tcp link add Sender S:5000 OPPORTUNISTIC tcp remote_eid=S.dtn R configuration: link add Gateway G:5000 OPPORTUNISTIC tcp remote_eid=G.dtn route add S.dtn Gateway What happens in that case is that when the ALWAYSON links connect, the node looks for an idle OPPORTUNISTIC link that has the same remote_eid set as the connecting node, and uses that opportunistic link as the other half of the TCP connection, rather than creating a new opportunistic link to handle the incoming connection. That means that you can add the final "route add" command to tell node R how to send bundles to S. The way to test this is to run all the nodes, and then type "route dump" at the console. I'm trying to install the DTN 2.3.0 reference implementation on cygwin using the normal configure/make/make install sequence, but I'm getting the following error on make:

Can any one help me out with resolving this issue? I was using gcc 3.4, and read somewhere on the forums that version 3.4 might cause issues; so attempted make with gcc 3.3.6, but the same thing happened.

Unfortunately there isn't a really easy way to do this currently. "Locally sourced" could mean that any of the locally-registered applications sent the bundle, but the current API allows local applications to register on any endpoint id, so there isn't a single "FOO" for you to compare against. It would be easy to add a bit to the bundle class for this purpose. You'd set it in the APIServer when it gets a dtn_send request, and have it default to false for all other bundles. You'd also want to set it for status report and other administrative bundles that are generated by the BundleDaemon itself. I also have some plans to rework the ForwardingLog to also record the arrival events for a bundle, which could include an indication as to whether or not the bundle came from a local application or from a peer node. That would be a more generally useful way to record the same information. They thank their supervisor, Kaustubh Phanse, in the acknowledgements (before going on to make rude noises about ns-2). So the obvious step is to talk to Kaustubh, who guided these students and very likely suggested the topic to the students in the first place, since he lists delay- and disruption-tolerant networking as one of his research interests. And Kaustubh is probably still following this area, unlike the masters students, who are in all likelihood happy to have successfully finished using ns-2. I had planned to use if for the DTNTunnel application but changed the design midway. However, it looks like if you change the "return 0" to "return handle->sock" then it should work since it looks to me like the support on the back end should be there. The idea is that once you call begin_poll, you can't use any api functions except dtn_recv until you call cancel_poll. The server side of the protocol notices if the app has called begin poll, and if any bundles arrive while in a polling period, they are immediately sent over the api socket instead of waiting for a call to dtn_recv. Each TCP convergence layer link can be used bidirectionally. So if you want to have only one link, set up a single ALWAYSON connection on one of your two hosts, pointing it at the other. Among the new features there's the possibility to use a sliding window to send a bundle even if the ACK hasn't been received yet. We noticed that using a window > 1, two TCP connections are created: Sender (port 3601) -----> Receiver (port 5000) Sender (port 5000) -----> Receiver (port 3844) so we'd like to know how TCP connections are managed by the Bundle Layer. In particular, when does the Bundle Layer create a new TCP connection? Is there any way to force the creation of just one connection? The used ports are fixed (we think so)? Thank you, Piero Cornice
