Can anybody explain how this route set option "EXACTLY" works ?
or give me a tutorial link explaining about it?.. I looked into all of the
tutorial links on dtnrg website but couldn't find it.

*route set type [static | flood | neighborhood | linkstate]
*
Thank you so much and have a great day~!

I have a problem when routing dtn with ALWAYSON link.

I'm testing DTN between 3 nodes. using ALWAYSON link setup.
A--------B--------C

*dtn.conf of A :*
link add tcp0 B ALWAYSON tcp
 *dtn.conf of B :*
link add tcp0 C ALWAYSON tcp
route set add_nexthop_routes true
*dtn.conf of C:*
route set add_nexthop_routes true
When I run dtn daemon with this configuration, it is running well between A
and B and, B and C(A--------B, B----------C) but not A-------------C
If I dtntraceroute from A to C, A could just reach to B, but C.

So I added static routing info to A and B
 *dtn.conf of A :*
route add dtn://B.dtn tcp0
route add dtn://C.dtn tcp0
*dtn.conf of B :*
route add dtn://C.dtn tcp0
dtndaemon A was fine. but for dtndaemon B, I met this type of error.

[1196356912.993144 /dtn/tclcmd error] error: line 39: 'next hop tcp0 is not
a valid link or endpoint id':
next hop tcp0 is not a valid link or endpoint id
    while executing
I think I'm doing something wrong. Could anyone tell me how to fix it?

Thank you

Try setting the local_addr attribute -- my guess is that it's not =20
using the right interface which is why you get network unreachable =20
errors.

For example Node 1:

discovery add ipdisc0 ip port=3D2000 local_addr=3D192.168.10.1
discovery announce announce-tcp0 ipdisc0 tcp interval=3D5

-m

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone has had a go at building DTN2 for Wind River Linux 1.5.

If so, any tips or makefiles would be appreciated.

I think he was saying that it fixed it, but as an aside a quick google
on the config.log error found:
http://groups.google.com/group/gnu.emacs.bug/browse_thread/thread/c79f5b8dfc6e67a2

looks like you needed to install libc6 which is installed by
build-essentials (which is just a meta-package that installs the bear
essentials: gcc, g++, make, libc), I'm using ubuntu 7.10 (upgraded
from 7.04) myself with no problem

Hi Bob,

I do remember seeing a similar problem at some point. I think installing g++ and its dependencies, as you point out, probably cures it, although why the g++ compiler is needed to test compilation of a C source code file, I don't know.

The config.log file shows the linker giving up when it can't find the libcrt1.o library. I guess this gets installed via dependencies of the g++ stuff.

Anyway, 7.10 seems to give no other problems.

Cheers,

Darren

Thanks, John. It had gcc, but not g++ installed. I don't recall that
being a problem in previous installs of Ubuntu, but I'm not very
familiar with Ubuntu. (That said, I should have guessed when it didn't
have openssh-server installed...)

Thanks again,
Bob

Hmmm,

Hit return before I was finished.....

try that anyway, in case any dependencies are missing. I'll check the
output against my Ubuntu laptop when I get home (in case no one else

Has anyone successfully configured the DTN code (2.4.0 OR 2.5.0) on
Ubuntu 7.10? I'm getting the following error VERY early in the
configure script execution, and if anyone's already seen this, I'm
happy to use that knowledge: =20
=20
checking location of source directory... "/home/durst/dtn_2.4.0"
checking location of build directory... "/home/durst/dtn_2.4.0"
checking for gcc... gcc
checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C
compiler cannot create executables
See `config.log' for more details.
=20
Config.log is attached.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi,

First, use tcpdump or wireshark to make sure that the discovery
packets are properly arriving at the nodes and that there isn't a
firewall or some other configuration problem stopping them.

If the packets are getting through, then check using netstat that the
nodes are listening on the proper addresses for the packets to arrive.

If the packets are arriving at the dtnd process, then look in the log
(perhaps running with -l debug to see the debugging output) to see
why the links aren't properly being created.

If that fails, then send me the full dtnd.log output from both
processes after running the test with the "-l debug" option to dtnd.

As to your other questions, bonjour is a multicast dns protocol that
is developed by Apple, which the dtn stack can use for announcements
and discovery. The ip discovery protocol is not a specified protocol
but is something that we invented to do dtn discovery on IP networks.

Yes, both of these characteristics are true and can cause loss of
data, however I do not consider them "flaws" but rather
characteristics of the design. There's nothing to say that all
convergence layers must provide these features and there may be cases
in which configured users might want to add rate limiting or
reliability at a different layer, either in the bundling layer or in
the underlying link layer which would obviate the need for UDPCL
functionality for either flow control or reliability.

That said, I do have plans to add a rate limiting option to the UDPCL
configuration so that the sender rate can be enforced, rather than
always trying to send at whatever rate the kernel is willing to
accept ::send() calls, which will go a long way towards making the
UDPCL more useful (as would adding support for proactive
fragmentation as well).

You can turn it off globally by adding the following to dtn.conf:

param set accept_custody false

As Darren pointed out, there is currently no support for proactive
fragmentation at the bundle layer, so the UDPCL can't send bundles
larger than the maximum size of a UDP packet.

The last I look at UDP in detail was about a year ago, but I was told
more recently that nothing had changed. When I looked at it it had
two important "flaws", there is no reliable delivery or flow control
at the convergence layer, both of these due to the way the system was
set up could cause lost information, especially with
fragmentation/large amount of traffic.

Hi Sergio,

My recollection of the UDP CL implementation is that the entire bundle
is sent as a single UDP/IP datagram, possibly incurring IP
fragmentation. Thus the maximum gross bundle size is 64kB. This may
not be all that useful in practice though due to the issues apparently
associated with IPv4 fragmentation: rfc4963

Hi all,

I wanted to ask two questions. Regarding the reference implementation 2.5,
is there a way to instruct a next hop node not to accept a custody transfer
request (or someway to do it automatically when resources are scarce in the
node?).
One other thing is related to using the UDP convergence layer. We notice
that for transfers larger that 60KB the dtn applications started failing and
messages could not reach the destinations. Anyone has had similar problems?

thanks

sergio

Good catch. The attached patch should fix it.

Here's the story ... The BluetoothDiscovery determines how long to
wait between Inquiry by iterating over the list of registered BTCL's
(BluetoothAnnounce) to find the minimum remaining interval, then uses
that value for the sleep() function. Before the loop, that value is
initialized to INT_MAX. If the list is empty, then sleep gets set to
rand(INT_MAX).

The attached patch overrides the default behavior of
BluetoothDiscover::handle_announce. Now instead of doing nothing,
handle_announce should jolt the notifier out of wait() whenever a new
BluetoothAnnounce is created ...

Please let me how this works out for you.

	Regards,
	Jeff

Hi,

I've been testing the Bluetooth implementation of DTN2 on N800 and came
up with a small bug:

Configuration:
interface add bt0 bt
discovery add btd bt
discovery announce bt0 btd bt interval=10

Everything works fine when the above lines are added to the
configuration file. However, if I try to add these manually to the dtnd
command prompt the discovery doesn't happen. I tracked this down to an
incorrectly calculated sleep value at
servlib/discovery/BluetoothDiscovery.cc:103 where the sleep value ends
up being way too large (essentially random 4 bytes). Unfortunately I
couldn't figure out why it's being calculated incorrectly.

I tested this running the release version 2.4.0, but the code doesn't
seem to have changed since then.

Regards,
-Teemu Karkkainen

Good evening,

I want to install and test dtn-2.5 reference implementation in a certain
scenario. I would like to know if someone has already installed the
reference implementation on a MIPS device.
I want to use the implementation with a buffalo Airstation G (WHR-G54S)
running OpenWRT. I would appreciate any kind of information (or pointer to
documentation) related to this.

thanks

sergio

Hi, a good tool is DTNPerf.

You can find it among the DTN apps, or download the latest (beta)
version from https://tatpa.deis.unibo.it (in the Downloads section).

I want to measure the Delay between A and B over many DTN nodes.

Delay means that the time between when the Node A starts to send a bundle
and when the Node B ends to receive this bundle.

Is there any traffic measurement tool for DTN? or should I add some code or
script to measure it?

Thanks.

First of all, as Giuseppe said, the dtn-users mailing list is the =20
appropriate one for this type of discussion. I've cc'd the =20
appropriate list here.

Secondly, you should probably run 'make install' after compiling the =20
sources which will put dtnd in /usr/bin (or in /usr/local/bin if =20
you've configured it that way).

I'll update some of the documentation sources to reflect as such.

Hello,

I'm a graduate student working on a master thesis on DTNs.

I want to make DTN simulations in ns2 and I tend to use the work of Eriksso=
n
and J=F6nsson for the implementation.
I tried to run the sample scripts but I keep receiving the same error in
small_demo and ns gets stuck.

the last two lines I see on the shell are:
"node 2 Reg binding bindR1 bound to token 1
node 0 Send binding bindM1 bound to token 1"

Has anyone faced such a problem? If yes, could you please help?

Thanx

Ilke

Hmm... given that there are other instances of u_int and u_char in
the code that seem to build, my guess is that you just need another
include file on Leaopard that wasn't needed before.

Can you try including <sys/types.h> or <oasys/compat/inttypes.h>
rather than actually changing the sources and see if that helps.

Thanks,
-m

Thanks Mike.

I don't know if you've tried building DTN2 on Leopard yet, but I had
to turn some u_char and u_int types into their basic forms in a few
places to get it to build. Other than that, it all seems OK from CVS.

Unfortunately you're right, the current SWIG bindings don't include
the parsed status report information.

This should be easy to add -- I'll take a look.

Hi,

I've been having a little dabble with the dtnapi Python bindings and
decided to knock up something to display bundle status reports and
plain text bundle payloads using growl (on Macs) or mumbles (on
Linux) notifications.

At the moment, I'm wondering if I have to parse the bundle payload to
see if the contents look like a status report. I've not spotted a way
to determine if a received bundle is an administrative record either,
using the python API. I can display bundles with simple text
payloads, but I really want to decode the reports.

I'm hoping that there may be a way to get the
dtn_bundle_status_report_t class to handle the reception of bundles
containing status reports. My understanding of Python is somewhat
incomplete so I expect I've probably missed something.

Darren

This means that you've sent a normal application bundle to the
administrative "local eid" of a DTN2 node, which is only supposed to
be used for inter-node administrative communication such as custody
signals and status reports.

You'll want to tack on an application demultiplexer string on the end
of your EIDs (e.g. dtn://orbit2.dtn/myapp) to make them route to a
specific application instead of to the router itself.

Most likely you have not properly set up the routing between node A
and node B.

Please read through the tutorial which will demonstrate how to do this.

Hello.

I'm testing DTN code on Ethernet before test on wireless.
DTNping application is working well on "localhost" but not working between
nodes.

1. run server at the node A
%./dtnd -c dtnd.conf

2. %dtndping localhost
20 bytes from [dtn://node1-2.sb2.orbit-lab.org.dtn/ping]: 'dtnping!'
seqno=5, time=10 ms
20 bytes from [dtn://node1-2.sb2.orbit-lab.org.dtn/ping]: 'dtnping!'
seqno=6, time=5 ms
20 bytes from [dtn://node1-2.sb2.orbit-lab.org.dtn/ping]: 'dtnping!'
seqno=7, time=10 ms
20 bytes from [dtn://node1-2.sb2.orbit-lab.org.dtn/ping]: 'dtnping!'
seqno=8, time=5 ms
Works!!

3. But once I try to run dtnping application at the node B
no respond.. at all.

also putting IP on EID field such as:
client%./dtnping dtn://10.12.1.1/ping
is not working

Can anyone give me any answer to figure this out?

Thanks.
