A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Electronic Data Interchange-Internet Integration Working Group of the IETF.

	Title : MIME-based Secure Peer-to-Peer Business Data
Interchange Using HTTP, Applicability Statement 2 (AS2)
	Author(s)	: D. Moberg, R. Drummond
	Filename	: draft-ietf-ediint-as2-19.txt
	Pages : 43
	Date : 2005-1-5

This document provides a applicability statement (RFC 2026, 3.2)
that describes how to exchange structured business data securely
using the HTTP transfer protocol, instead of SMTP; the
applicability statement for SMTP is found in RFC 3335. Structured
business data may be XML, Electronic Data Interchange
(EDI) in either the American National Standards Committee (ANSI)
X12 format, or in the UN Electronic Data Interchange for
Administration, Commerce and Transport (UN/EDIFACT) format,
or in other structured data formats. The data is packaged using
standard MIME structures. Authentication and data confidentiality
are obtained by using Cryptographic Message Syntax with S/MIME
security body parts. Authenticated acknowledgements make use of
   multipart/signed Message Disposition Notification (MDN)
responses to the original HTTP message. This applicability
statement is informally referred to as "AS2" because it is the
second applicability statement, produced after "AS1," RFC 3335.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-ediint-as2-19.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ediint-as2-19.txt".

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.

Attn.: Russian Investment Opportunity.

Dear Sir or Madam,

INTRODUCTION:

My name is Dmitry pavel Vlakov, I am one of Mr. Mikhail Khodorkovsky's
personal treasurers.

Mr. Khodorkovsky was once one of the richest men in Russia.
Mr. Khodorkovsky is owner of the following companies:

Chairman CEO: YUKOS OIL (Russia's Largest Oil Company)

Chairman CEO: Menatep SBP Bank (A well known and well respected
financial institution with branches all over the world)

Situation:

Some while ago whilst in the process of crediting certain funds, via
various European security and finance companies , Mr. Khodorkovsky was
arrested for his political involvement in the financing of political
parties which posed a threat to President Vladimir Putin's second tenure as
Russian president.

Due to these facts, Yukos Oil has been forced to file under chapter 11
for bankruptcy. Ironically the shares of our largest conglomerates was
dubiously and specially orchestrated by Putin and sold to a local coy
just last week.
see as included here.

http://www.kvia.com/Global/story.asp?S=2770367

http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/050104/241/f9nfi.html

Due to the situation wit regards to Mr. Mikhail Khodorkovsky 'arrest'
and the recent takeover of the petroleum industry by the Russian
Government I have an amount in excess of $21.5M USD which I seek your help and
'business advice' in acquiring access to.

SOURCE OF FUNDS:

The documents that allow me access to the funds in question were handed
over to me [in the form of payment] by a United Stats based oil
merchant with regards to previous business done by him and Mr. Khodorkovsky.
The funds are currently held by a European security and finance company
who are charged with allocating and the final crediting of held funds.

At completion of business, should you agree to help me, you will be
rewarded with the sum of 15% of the aforementioned sum in cash to an
account of your choice for your 'advisory' input as a 'consultant'.

YOUR ROLE:

All I need from you is for you to agree to stand as the beneficiary of
the above mentioned sum. I will arrange for the documentation to be
translated and filed with the relevant agencies which will enable the
European finance company transfer the sum to an account.

As soon as I receive confirmation of your readiness to go ahead with
the transfer of funds I will send you all the appropriate documentation
that you need to continue including details of the European finance
house concerned with this transaction.

Sincerely,

Mr. Dmitry p Vlakov

Good afternoon.

If you would be so kind as to clarify one point. This is regarding the MIC calculation.
The MDN seems clear for signatures. The problem I am having is not seeing (for sure)
when this applies and is calculated on specific data (sometimes it includes the MIME and sometimes not it seems).

When the ANSI X12 file is not encrypted it seems that RFC Draft 19 para 7.1 applies:
"When the EDI Interchange is part of a multi-part MIME content-type, the MIC MUST be calculated across the entire multi-part content, including the MIME headers."

This may be pretty clear, I am just confirming.

There are two points I hope to clarify. The first is that the question relates to just an AS2 Message (not the MDN message or reply) and the digital signature when the file is encrypted and when the file is not encrypted, keeping in mind the draft extract above.

However, the way I understand is

1. The hash is calculated on the file (raw unencrypted edi file) as a detached body
2. The hash (document digest) is encrytpted with my private key thus creating a digital signature
3. The digital signature and document are then encrypted with a one-type symmetric symmetric key (say 3DES)
4. The one time key is now encrypted with my trading partners public key. We now have a "package" or digital envolope that can be sent out to the partner.

I must assume that encrypted data is handled differently than unencrypted data as far as the hash calc is concerned as it relates to signatures.

Below is an encrypted and decrypted method of calculating the hash (MIC) using MD5 or Sha1. Note the "&" which shows what data is calculated.

synchronous MDN Request ENCRYPTED DATA :

Hash is calculated on the un-encrypted file only and then attached to the MIME as a multi-part signed object (encrypted data and signature). It does not seem possible to consider the MIME headers in the mime calculation here.

For example, the MIC would have ben calcualted over the encrypted below but not the MIME because its not a content type multi-part:

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Electronic Data Interchange-Internet Integration Working Group of the IETF.

	Title : MIME-based Secure Peer-to-Peer Business Data
Interchange Using HTTP, Applicability Statement 2 (AS2)
	Author(s)	: D. Moberg, R. Drummond
	Filename	: draft-ietf-ediint-as2-20.txt
	Pages : 43
	Date : 2005-1-19

This document provides a applicability statement (RFC 2026, 3.2)
that describes how to exchange structured business data securely
using the HTTP transfer protocol, instead of SMTP; the
applicability statement for SMTP is found in RFC 3335. Structured
business data may be XML, Electronic Data Interchange
(EDI) in either the American National Standards Committee (ANSI)
X12 format, or in the UN Electronic Data Interchange for
Administration, Commerce and Transport (UN/EDIFACT) format,
or in other structured data formats. The data is packaged using
standard MIME structures. Authentication and data confidentiality
are obtained by using Cryptographic Message Syntax with S/MIME
security body parts. Authenticated acknowledgements make use of
   multipart/signed Message Disposition Notification (MDN)
responses to the original HTTP message. This applicability
statement is informally referred to as "AS2" because it is the
second applicability statement, produced after "AS1," RFC 3335.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-ediint-as2-20.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ediint-as2-20.txt".

The IESG has approved the following document:

- 'MIME-based Secure Peer-to-Peer Business Data Interchange Using HTTP,
   Applicability Statement 2 (AS2) '
   <draft-ietf-ediint-as2-20.txt> as a Proposed Standard

This document is the product of the Electronic Data Interchange-Internet
Integration Working Group.

The IESG contact persons are Scott Hollenbeck and Ted Hardie.

Technical Summary
This document describes how to exchange structured business data
securely using HTTP transfer for XML, Binary, Electronic Data
Interchange, (EDI - either the American Standards Committee X12 or
UN/EDIFACT, Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce
and Transport) or other data describable in MIME used for business to
business data interchange. The data is packaged using standard MIME
content-types. Authentication and privacy are obtained by using
Cryptographic Message Syntax (S/MIME) security body parts.
Authenticated acknowledgements make use of multipart/signed replies
to the original HTTP message.

Working Group Summary
There is solid consensus demonstrated by 30+ implementations in
a diverse range of software products.

Protocol Quality
Scott Hollenbeck has reviewed this speciication for the IESG.
There are 30+ software companies who have implemented this document.
Companies from India, Europe, USA, Canada and Japan have implemented to name
a few. There are tens of thousands of production implementations carrying
ebusiness information between companies especially in the retail and
consumer packaged goods environments. Wal*Mart, Target, and many others
across the world have chosen it as their preferred internet based ebusiness
standard for supply chain related information movement.

RFC Editor Note

Please change "IPSEC" to "IPsec" in Section 9.

As mentioned in this forum before, the certificate exchange Internet draft
has now been published on IETF at the link below. This draft is not
specifically part of EDIINT as it is outside its charter but it deals very
much with EDIINT. It is an RFC standard track draft, and I am asking members
of EDIINT to review it and discuss it in this work group. Thank you.

As AS2 has grown in acceptance and maturity, its interest and abilities has
spread beyond just secure EDI transfer. A draft for exchanging certificates
over EDIINT has been submitted for review, and members of PIDX/CIDX are
interested in sending multiple documents in an AS2 message through the use
of multipart/related structure.

With this growth of features, what is the best way for implementations to
convey their feature support? AS2-Version header has been used since
compression was introduced, but this is very limited means of support
communication. Within the DGI interoperability test, a vendor suggested the
introduction of a Features header that could convey what the implementation
supported (e.g. Compression, CEM, etc.) to assist trading partners in
knowing the limits of their relationship.

What do the members of this work group consider of this idea or are their
other solutions to this need?

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Electronic Data Interchange-Internet Integration Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Compressed Data for EDIINT
	Author(s)	: T. Harding
	Filename	: draft-ietf-ediint-compression-04.txt
	Pages : 6
	Date : 2005-1-31

The intent of this document is to be placed on the RFC track as an
Informational RFC.

The EDIINT AS1 and AS2 message formats don't currently contain any
transport neutral provisions for compressing data when utilizing S/MIME
as the secure packaging standard. Compressing data before transmission
provides a number of advantages including

1. reducing data redundancy, and so reducing opportunities for attacks
exploiting redundancy, and
2. reducing the amount of data and so speeding up cryptographic
processing such as signing, encryption, archiving, and
3. reducing the overall transmitted message size, reducing both time and
bandwidth needed for transport.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ediint-compression-04.txt

To remove yourself from the I-D Announcement list, send a message to
i-d-announce-request@ietf.org with the word unsubscribe in the body of the message.
You can also visit https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/I-D-announce
to change your subscription settings.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-ediint-compression-04.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ediint-compression-04.txt".
