Dear editors,
I cannot understand why frAtmIwfConnectionTable has a
frAtmIwfConnAtmPort, or that what's
the purpose of it. In the draft, frAtmIwfConnAtmPort are read as "index
in the ifTable that identifies the ATM port this interworking
connection". But connection multiplexing at IWF is expected to occur at
PDH interfaces like DS1/DS3, which may be identified by
frAtmIwfConnFrPort. Or else In the draft, frAtmIwfConnAtmPort will be
same to frAtmIwfConnFrPort ?
Regards,
Jai-Jin Lim

Orly and I think it needs to be read-create. Clearly, upon creation the
table row must be associated with some connection descriptor.

I will change this in the next draft.

Thanks for finding this problem!

Subject: question on FR/ATM iinterworking MIB

Hi, Kenneth.
I am reading FR/ATM Service Interworking MIB (Internet Draft) and try to use
this MIB for
our products. Since the object frAtmIwfConnectionDescriptor in the
frAtmIwfConnectionTable
is defined as read-only, I was wondering how a connection can be associated
with the given
frAtmIwfConnectionDescriptor in the descriptor table when creating the
connection?
Thanks,

The connection table is providing a cross-connect between a PVC on an ATM
interface, hence the need for the ifIndex of the ATM Port, and a PVC on a
Frame Relay interface.

We are adding more text to the MIB to describe the relationships of the
different data objects. I hope it will be clearer!

Cheers,
Ken

Dear Rehbehn, Kenneth,

OK. The connection table is maintinng a cross-connection information.
FR DLCI ~ ATM VPC/VCC. Is it right ? My guesses start where if an
ingress FR
DLC is mapped an ATM PVC at interworking point, which is in turn
cross-connected with another ATM connection, necessary information in
interworking point is that {DLCI,VPI,VCI} at interworking point
(frAtmIwfConnFrPort). And pure atm cross-connection information will be
maintained at atmVplTable, atmVclTable, atmVpCrossconnectTable, and
atmVcCrossconnectTable. So, my guess is that frAtmIwfConnAtmPort is
redunt
information.
Is it any information for frAtmIwfConnAtmPort ?
Regards,
Jai-Jin Lim

OK, this is the case when the single system performing the FR/ATM cross-connect
and it
does not then perform a second ATM cross-connect, which is made in next hop
switch.
The unclear things to me are when we cross-connect a FR-PVC over ATM
(where a UNI has a FR-IWF interworking function) in a single switch, which is
in turn cascaded to another ATM swith or network.
(1) ingress(UNI) PDH port(ifIndex=3) such as DS1/DS3 carrying FR traffics over
FR PVC with its DLCI=23
(2) The FR-IWF performs connection multiplexing in a 1-1 network interworked
way, mapping DLC=23 to VPI/VCI=25/26.
(3) egress(NNI) SDH port(ifIndex=56) such as STM1 carrying ATM traffics over
ATM PVC with its VPI/VCI=34/35.
In my sense, frAtmIwfConnTable is used to describe the (1) and (2). And (3) is
described using atm{Vpl,Vcl,Crossconnection}Table. Thus my question is for
describing (1) and (2).

Jai-Jin Lim

Andy -

Does anyone have any preference for a size range on the FRF.12 fragments in
the FRS MIB?

My strawman:

frLportFragSize OBJECT-TYPE
    SYNTAX Integer32 (32..8000)

Cheers,
Ken

I would change the 8000 to 8184
(derivation: 8192 - max 4 octet header - max 4 octet FCS)

Cheers,
Andy

The file draft-ieft-frnetmib-frs-mib-06.txt has been sent to the IETF
Secretariat for posting in the I-D directory. It is available for
inspection at:

ftp://ftp.visualnetworks.com/pub/ietf/draft-ietf-frnetmib-frs-mib-06.txt

Please review this text and get comments back to me before Friday's I-D
deadline.

To aid in your review, I have enclosed a PDF file that shows a Word "Diff"
between -05 and -06. Check out the "REVISION" clause for the description of
what changed. The DIFF file is available for inspection at:

ftp://ftp.visualnetworks.com/pub/ietf/draft-ietf-frnetmib-frs-mib-06-DIFF.pd
f

Most of the changes in this version were in response to the review conducted
by Bob Stewart in his role of WG Technical Advisor. Highlights of Bob's
comments are:

- Fix up the discusion of the System Group. Ver -05 says "this group is not
instantiated".

- Change the new read-write objects to use the convention xxxAdmin and
xxxOper. Since we had an existing set of xxxOper objects named xxx, I left
these intact. I did change the name xxxRW to xxxAdmin for all effected
objects.

- Establish a range for FRF.12 fragment sizes.

- Don't say "value is equal to noSuchInstance"

- Add UNITS and REFERENCE clauses

Bob raised the issue of how instance-level access control works with these
tables. I was unable to address this question. My main concern is that
this MIB already exists - should we add more text dealing with this issue?

Finally, I added a compliance module to address the new read-write "switch"
model of the MIB. In doing so, I removed the new RW objects (now xxxAdmin)
objects from the service compliance module.

SMICNG compiles the file without error.

Please review my changes carefully. It would be good to get changes in
before Friday so that ver -07 can be posted to the I-D directory before
Oslo.

Thanks,
Ken

Hey Ken!

Glad to see an updated copy. Looks good to me. The changes clarify a number
of things.

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Hi, all.

 >From draft-frnetmib-06, I don't know when the frame relay service
interface is generated? That is, for unchannelized service, Frame Relay
interface is higher than physical layer(ds1 or ds3).

For channelized service, it is higher than ds0 or ds0Bundle.
I know how the ds0 or ds0Bundle interface is created by RFC2494.
But I don't know when the frame relay interface is laid on physical or ds0
or ds0Bundle. If that is role of system operator, why isn't there such a mib?

Give me a good advice.

And from draft-fr-atm-iw-02,
I want to know the stack relationship of each interfaces.
Is it possible the following stack ? :
         6. AAL5
         5. ATM
         4. Frame Relay
         3. ds0Bundle
         2. ds0s
         1. ds1

Apperently, the relation between 4.frame Relay and 5.ATM is the role of
FrAtmIwConnectionTable.
Give me a good advice, too.

Thank you all.

"When" it is done is implementation specific. The Frame Relay Service MIB
and, the interface stack tables, and the interface MIB have relationships
that the network management system controls. Some objects (physical
interfaces) get created before others (frame relay DLCIs).

No. The fr-atm-iwf MIB provides a cross-connect table that associates an
endpoint row in the frame relay service MIB and an endpoint row in the ATM
MIB. Each endpoint is associated with its own interface stack.

That's correct!
