Hi Amelia,

I'm watching the discussion unfold and while I'm not on the list, I
thought I would share two thoughts about the security argument folks
have made:

On 23/04/18 11:52, Amelia Andersdotter wrote:

If there is a particular security service that is being provided to the
user, then this recommendation is still sound-- if you have DDoS
mitigation then analyses or other logging might go beyond three days. It
fits.

There was also another blunt question from Med about DDoS-- What about DDoS?

First, analyses doesn't need the entire IP address. One could log
attacks without retaining the full IP address and lots of other information.

Second, adding IP addresses to black or grey lists is not logging.

Hi all,

There are a lot of cool technologists and projects in Montreal that we
could maybe invite to our session there. Where are we with agenda
setting for the Montreal session?

Best,

Niels

Hi,

Thank you for you ping.

While I did request a slot, I have not yet asked about the list about
the agenda.

Now that you ask, as good a time as any, who wishes to report at the
next meeting. Or to speak on their research/practice.  I hope the Review
team is willing as well as those working on the RG drafts. And of course
those working on other drafts.

As for speakers, Alison did suggest a speaker, and I have asked her to
confirm availability before coming to the list with the suggestion. But
since the subject is open, she suggested Roya Ensafi, who won the ANRP,
to speak on her current work on internet censorship research.  Will let
the list know as soon as I know more.

Specific other recommendation are also welcome.

Thank you

avri

Hi all,

Roya is great, would be fun to hear her speak.

Would like to hear what else the chair(s) think should be on the agenda?

Next steps for RFC8280? Ongoing work of 451? Draft political? Seems like we
have plenty to discuss.

Best,

Hi all,

A new version of the association draft! We (actually largely Gisela) implem=
ented the issueAs discussed during the last session, we:

- removed the part that was perceived as problematic (about ASes)=20
(I asked about this a while ago on the list again, but unfortunately th=
ere was no support for this
    https://www.ietf.org/mail-archive/web/hrpc/current/msg01299.html )
- wrote a new conclusion in line with the rest of the document.

Happy to discuss!

Best,

Niels

Abstract:
This document scopes the relation between Internet protocols and the
right to freedom of assembly and association. Increasingly, the
Internet mediates our lives, our relationships and our ability to
exercise our human rights. The Internet provides a global public
space, but one that is built predominantly on private infrastructure.
Since Internet protocols play a central role in the management,
development and use of the Internet, the relation between protocols
and the aforementioned rights should be documented and any adverse
impacts of this relation should be mitigated.

Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of submission
until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.

Hi,

Perhaps we could include short presentations from the hackathon, if
there are any, especially demos.

For the review team, it would be time better spent presenting an
overview of reviews done, lessons learned, work in progress and RT plans
for future reviews and review methodology.

@Joe might be a good idea to see if someone from Citizen Lab could make
the trip from Toronto to present.

And draft-association and draft-politics.

Maybe someone from Deflect could also give some interesting insights?

Roya's research has been fascinating (esp about using infrastructure to mea=
sure censorship and other things), very curious to hear what her new talk w=
ould be about. Happy to also read some papers beforehand!

Best,

Niels
