A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Human Rights Protocol Considerations RG of the IRTF.

Title : Freedom of Association on the Internet
        Authors : Niels ten Oever
                          Gisela Perez de Acha
                          Stéphane Couture
                          Mallory Knodel
	Filename : draft-irtf-hrpc-association-06.txt
	Pages : 31
	Date : 2020-11-01

Abstract:
This document discusses the relationships between the Internet
architecture and the ability of people to exercise their right to
freedom of assembly and association online. The Internet
increasingly mediates our lives, our relationships, and our ability
to exercise our human rights. As a global forum, the Internet
provides a public space, yet it is predominantly built on private
infrastructure. Since Internet protocols play a central role in the
management, development, and use of the Internet, we analyze the
relation between protocols and the rights to assemble and associate
to mitigate infringements on those rights.

Dear all,

Please see below a survey on the tools you're using to author drafts.
Particularly helpful if you've used a bespoke tool chain and/or needed
additional support or help implementing the recommended tools.

Best,

-Mallory

Hi
** Final reminder **

The IETF is conducting a survey to help us understand what tools and
formats you use for authoring IETF Internet Drafts (I-Ds), how you use
them and what more you need from them. The data from this survey is
vital for our future planning of tools investment.

This note is to thank the 470 of you that have responded to this survey
so far but ideally we would like to get 900 responses and so this is a
final reminder to please spare a few minutes to fill out the survey,
even if you do not author I-Ds any more:

https://ietf.iad1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8d21RFqe5dBijOJ

Your email address has been selected because you have been listed as the
author or submitter of an I-D in the last five years. The survey is
anonymous - we only record the data you provide and do not record your
IP address or any details of your computer.

Thank you
Jay

Dear all,

The draft agenda for our 109 session can be found here:

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/agenda-109-hrpc

Please let me know if you will be presenting a draft outside of
-association and -guidelines.

Furthermore we are still looking for one speaker to fill a 30 minute
slot. We may use that time instead to do a deeper dive into the two
drafts, so as to get them closer to last call.

Other suggestions are more than welcome as we finalise the agenda,

-Mallory

Hi Mallory,

Thanks for preparing the agenda! May I suggest for the spreaker perhaps Ethan Zuckerman - who has started the digital public infrastructure project?

Else perhaps Rita Zajacz, author of 'Reluctant Power', about the governance of informaton networks. Alternatively Nicole Starosielski - author of 'The Undersea Network'.

Best,

Niels

Dear all,

I hope that you are all keeping well and healthy. As you know, IETF 109=20
is upon us. HRPC kicks off the week with a *0500 UTC meeting on Monday*, =

which for many of us will feel like Sunday night.

I wanted to make sure you're all there, because we have an excellent=20
speaker lined up to talk about a very important -- and relevant! --=20
topic for our group, which is about the politics of the internet. Kim=20
Crayton will deliver the talk. You can read more about her on the web,=20
and here's a very short bio:

"Kim Crayton is known for her work of coaching tech leaders, in=20
companies and non-profits, for improving profitability and innovation by =

operationalizing core organizational values and identifying hidden=20
organizational barriers to inclusion. She has spoken at over 50=20
conferences on these issues, and has worked closely with members and=20
leadership in the Clojure, Node.js, Python, JavaScript and Selenium=20
communities, as well as at organizations like GitHub and Mozilla. Recent =

engagements have included MailChimp, Sinnerschrader, Ableton, Selenium=20
Open Source Project, Unplug Studios, and Ti.to." Kim has also recently=20
spoken to the W3C about their work on diversity and inclusion.

Lastly on the agenda, we will of course be using the time to talk about=20
HRPC RG work, including draft-association, draft-guidelines and possibly =

(given the speaker) draft-political.

=C2=A0--> I'm attaching the event's .ics file just in case of timezone=20
confusion.

=C2=A0--> And if you've registered (there are fee waivers available!) yo=
u=20
can access the talk directly through Meetecho at this link (Room 2):

https://meetings.conf.meetecho.com/ietf109/?group=3Dhrpc&short=3D&item=3D=

Really looking forward to seeing you all there! Please share and promote =

the session!

This is not an IETF project but it's an interesting project since it
has explicit political goals (distributing information without
tracking, and with the ability to have very simple clients, instead of
humongus Web browwers).

Creating a protocol where it is *difficult* to add bloat and
surveillance features is not easy. Gemini is *not* extensible and it
is a feature, not a bug.

Home page :
https://gemini.circumlunar.space/

IETFers will certainly prefer to read the specification:
https://gemini.circumlunar.space/docs/specification.html

If you want to jump on your keyboard to criticize, I suggest to read
the FAQ first, it may addresses your criticism:
https://gemini.circumlunar.space/docs/faq.html
