MY_GROUP. But there is only one unicast router in my
subnet. How can i submit IGMP join membership report
to a multicast router ?

As far as I know, unless things have changed dramatically, you must
have a multicast router on your subnet.

Hi,

Who's has been successfull to run IGMPv3 for Linux ?

I downloaded the Sprintlabs Linux implementation of IGMPv3.

I have not been able to run the 2.4.0 kernel version.
Explications : The patch operation is passed for all sources but when I want
to compile the kernel some errors appear
about udp.c (specifically in the 'udp_v4_mcast_filter' function where
'dereferencing pointer to incomplete type' errors appear).

Thank you for the help you would give me.

We had similar problem when we tried the patch. We used the patch you
mentioned and the recommended kernel (2.2.14 as far as I remember).
But unfortunately it was not working. We were able to compile the kernel
but no IP-Multicast at all. Therefor we switched to FreeBSD 4.2 with
the following patch which worked quite well for us:

As you'll see from
http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc-index2.html

RFC2362 made RFC2117 obsolete, but hasn't been obsoleted by a later
published RFC itself.

As you'll see from
http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/idmr-charter.html
there are no later PIM-SM workgroup drafts in this workgroup and its
mailing list. However, there is also:

http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/pim-charter.html

and
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-pim-sm-v2-new-05.txt

which I would read in conjunction with RFC2362, although as a draft
that's subject to change.

None of these documents are standards-track, or any form of standard.

Hello,
Currently I am developing dvmrp on pSOS, i have the
following doubts,

1. How to enable multicast routing in pSOS kernel.

2. Should I write seperate routing process.

3. Should I just need to update unicast routing table, if so on
what basis? because dvmrp(mrouted) maintains two tables, 1>
routing table 2> forwarding table. which one should be used to
update current unicast routing table and how.

Thanx and Regards,
gamp

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Inter-Domain Multicast Routing Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Internet Group Management Protocol, Version 3
	Author(s)	: B. Cain, S. Deering, B. Fenner,
                          I. Kouvelas, A. Thyagarajan
	Filename	: draft-ietf-idmr-igmp-v3-11.txt,.ps
	Pages : 53
	Date : 23-May-02

This document specifies Version 3 of the Internet Group Management
Protocol, IGMPv3. IGMP is the protocol used by IPv4 systems to report
their IP multicast group memberships to neighboring multicast routers.
Version 3 of IGMP adds support for 'source filtering', that is, the
ability for a system to report interest in receiving packets *only* from
specific source addresses, or from *all but* specific source addresses,
sent to a particular multicast address. That information may be used by
multicast routing protocols to avoid delivering multicast packets from
specific sources to networks where there are no interested receivers.
This document obsoletes RFC 2236.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-idmr-igmp-v3-11.txt

To remove yourself from the IETF Announcement list, send a message to
ietf-announce-request with the word unsubscribe in the body of the message.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-idmr-igmp-v3-11.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-idmr-igmp-v3-11.txt".

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.

RFC 2362 is outdated and contains several loopholes. You want to refer to
the latest PIM-SM draft for the correct version. You can find it under the
PIM WG at the IETF site. The new draft is yet to become a standard and that
is why rfc2362 has still been left on the site.

Hope this helps.
