This will keep the same protocol, but adding extension processing derived from XULE (see proceedings of IETF-61). In preparation, the authors have been conducting a detailed review of the protocol spec. One other thing that came out in the review was that the following description seems over specified, and I'd like to propose a minor change (see below). X.2 Processing of a Received SNDU OLD TEXT: If the Length of the Current SNDU is greater than 4, the Receiver accepts bytes from the TS Packet payload to the Current SNDU buffer until either Length bytes in total are received, or the end of the TS Packet is reached. When Current SNDU length equals the value of the Length Field, the Receiver MUST calculate and verify the CRC value (section 4.6). SNDUs that contain an invalid CRC value MUST be discarded, causing the Receiver to re-enter the Idle State. PROPOSED NEW TEXT: If the Length of the Current SNDU is greater than 4, the Receiver accepts bytes from the TS Packet payload to the Current SNDU buffer until either Length bytes in total are received, or the end of the TS Packet is reached. When Current SNDU length equals the value of the Length Field, the Receiver MUST calculate and verify the CRC value (section 4.6). The IETF emphasis on being "liberal" in what is accepted suggests we discard the corrupt SNDU, but not that we MUST also discard succeeding SNDUs. Thoughts? The cited mac address is multicast, whereas the IPV6 address is Unicast... Looking at section 4.5 of ULE: " The ****least significant bit**** of the first byte of the address is set to 1 for multicast frames, and the remaining bytes specify the link layer multicast address." Note my highlighting with "***". Although this does not invalidate the example - from the point of view of validating the CRC32 calculation - it is not a good example of expected use. Could someone perhaps please compute the CRC32 again over the same packet using a unicast NPA address instead? The current rev of the ULE Spec states that the second part of the Type space corresponds to the value range from 1536 Decimal Decimal to 0xFFFF. The purpose of this change was to align the IETF values to be defined for ULE with those actually allocated by IEEE for Ethernet. The values 1500-1536 are not valid for an IEEE frame type. The latest rev is at: http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ipdvb-ule-01.txt Note a new rev of ULE is expected by the end of this month (?) to complete the issues raised at IETF-60 ipdvb WG meeting. The main issue being to define the protocol for Type values less than 1536.
