Hi,
    A couple of more questions.
=20
*) TWAMP does not exchange schedule slots and hence it is not known to
the Session Reflector as to how long a port needs to be left open for a
given test session. I recommend adding a Session-Period to be sent in
a Request-Session message to compliment the Start-Time field.
=20
*) TWAMP defines adding DSCP marking to the Test Session stream. Does
the draft expect that the end systems will provide the correct queueing,
shaping and policing for the marked packet or is that purely for network
treatment? The packets could originate and terminate on switches that
work on layer two CoS markings and could ignore the layer 3 DSCP.

The new Porsche Design watches originated from the novel Titanium Chronograph from the 1970's, an absolutely unique creation due to the perfection of its workmanship. Based on its design, the Porsche Design Company developed an appealing, stylish, sporty and highly accurate watch. Unfortunately, these timepieces come with a high price tag.
http://www.deoospl.com/

That's why a clever group of European manufacturers decided to offer the same exact functionality and style at greatly reduced prices: the Porsche Design replica watches. These replicas are so similar to the brand name pieces that it is practically impossible to tell them apart, other than by their price. They look the same, they function the same and they definitely don't have the same prices :) How would you like to browse through an amazing collection of these watches and marvel yourself with their low prices? Visit Prestige Replicas and see for yourself why sometimes replicas are so much better than the originals!

I agree with the need for something like the Session-Period field.

Another question we have is:
=20
- What fields form a key to uniquely identify test streams?
=20
  Is it Sender-Address + Sender-Port + Receiver-Address + Receiver-Port?
Should DSCP be used as well? I guess this is an implementation
decision, but is significant since in the encrypted mode the decryption
keys will need to be identified based on the test stream packet
received.

		Hi,
		    A couple of more questions.
		=20
*) TWAMP does not exchange schedule slots and hence it
is not known to the Session Reflector as to how long a port needs to be
left open for a given test session. I recommend adding a
Session-Period to be sent in a Request-Session message to compliment the
Start-Time field.
		=20
*) TWAMP defines adding DSCP marking to the Test Session
stream. Does the draft expect that the end systems will provide the
correct queueing, shaping and policing for the marked packet or is that
purely for network treatment? The packets could originate and
terminate on switches that work on layer two CoS markings and could
ignore the layer 3 DSCP.

			Hi,
		=09
			   A couple of more questions.
		=09
		=09
			 =20
*) TWAMP does not exchange schedule slots and
hence it is not known to the Session Reflector as to how long a port
needs to be left open for a given test session. I recommend adding a
Session-Period to be sent in a Request-Session message to compliment the
Start-Time field.

=09

We could also handle apparent failures by allowing the Server
and=20
Session Reflector to time-out and free-up resources after a=20
period on zero activity. Since adding this behavior requires
no message changes, it's easier and less disruptive right now...
	=20
MSC> Failure is one aspect, the other thing to consider is that
for a given Connection, Test A may run for 3 days while Test B may run
for just one day. Since the Stop-All message for graceful termination
comes on Day 3, Test B port will accept test streams for 2 additional
days. The other thing is how would one define zero activity? The
Server has no knowledge when a Stop message should arrive!
	=20
	-Murtaza=20
=09

		=09
			 =20
*) TWAMP defines adding DSCP marking to the Test
Session stream. Does the draft expect that the end systems will
provide the correct queueing, shaping and policing for the marked packet
or is that purely for network treatment? The packets could originate
and terminate on switches that work on layer two CoS markings and could
ignore the layer 3 DSCP.=20
		=09
			-Murtaza=20

If TWAMP is embedded in a router or a switch, the TWAMP spec
only covers the TWAMP functions. Other configurations cover
the treatment of DSCP, if any.
=09
revised text is on the way...

Hi all,

In Philadelphia, we discussed the future of the group now that we get
close to finishing the work that is on our plate. We had some
discussion on possible future work items:

   = Passive measurements
   = SLA Monitoring
   = Comparision of metrics.

I may have forgotten something (and I'm not sitting near the minutes,
so I can't check). The first two items aren't covered
by our current charter, so if we'd want to work on them, we need to
recharter.

In Philly, people did suggest to have a BoF to discuss this in
Dublin. The cut-off date to requests BoF is about two weeks from
today, so, if you still feel like this, please drop us a note to
confirm your interest. It'd be even better if you could add a few
lines that can be included in the BoF proposal. Alternatively,
if you feel that we can do this with rechartering, please say
so, again with text for the new charter more than welcome.

Deadline for all this is about a week from today, May 20, so
we have some time to put a request together.

Matt & Henk

Sorry, this got stuck in my mailbox, mainly because I don't quite
understand what the problem is here. I still don't :-) so I'm
probably missing something...

Now, suppose I measure something with probes. I get 10,000 events,
then bin them to get an idea of the distribution. This gives me
a median and percentiles. If I then repeat this by sampling 100,000
times, then I simply expect 10x as many events in each bin, but I
don't expect the distribution and thus the median to change. In
other words, my curves will be a bit smoother, but the overall
result won't change much.

But this is probably not what you meant :-)

Hi Henk, =

as you mention, if the samples aren't of the same size, then you

| don't expect the distribution and thus the median to [basically] =

| change. In other words, my curves will be a bit smoother, but the =

| overall result won't change much.

The last sentence adresses the point, that there is a deviation - =

so the metric comparism standard would have to define =

how to compare samples of different sizes (I guess statisticians =

can provide literature on this). If all sample sizes are the same =

and if the sample function is the same, then you directly can =

compare results.

In other words: samples of different size produce results with =

different errors. This error should be visible in an evaluation to =

indicate, whether results are compatible or not.

I've done some of these comparisms with regard to packet loss, =

starting from a CBR probe distance of 200 ms and ending at a probe =

distance of one per minute, always using the same basic set of =

measurement data. The experiment had the aim to figure out, which =

minimum sample size is required to measure a loss period correctly.
And there are sample sizes, when the means start to deviate =

significantly.

So I repeat my point of view: don't ignore the impact of the =

sample size if two measurement systems to be compared don't work =

with the same. My proposal: Always try to make the sample sizes =

the same (which should be possible with or requires respectively
access to raw data of the measurement results). =

Regards,

Rudiger

Hi Henk,

while I speak here as an individual only, I've exchanged an email with =

some of Deutsche Telekom's carrier product managers. They would =

appreciate if IETF works on

End-to-end IP transport SLA monitoring.

I'd interpret that to cover also SLA monitoring across several domains =

or ASes. Further DiffServ should be supported.

You ask for text to be included for the BOF meeting. Things coming =

to my mind are (my personal view only, list isn't ordered by =

priorities):

Traceability of end-to-end IP performance monitoring is an important =

aspect. If an IP transport SLA is violated, the AS or the ASes =

causing the violation should be identifiable. A standardised method =

or a recommendation how to do this may be helpful. =

The interface to exchange IP transport SLA monitoring results =

between involved parties have to be specified. =

Further, measurement methods ensuring compatible results will have =

to be agreed on, as well as monitoring architectures. =

The reliability of an indicated SLA violation is an issue. Having =

multiple measurement points and a couple of them indicating a =

simultaneous performance degradation makes it simpler to locate a =

problem, than a performance degradation only visible between two =

measurement points. =

Another issue is clearing of data. Planned maintenance may allow for =

disturbances during certain intervals. Not sure whether IETF should =

work on the issue (one could try to capture planned maintenace =

intervals, correlate possible performance degradations caused by =

them with SLA monitoring data and clear the latter...). IF IETF =

decides not to work on this, some IP transport SLA minitoring =

architecture document nevertheless should mention the issue.
A definition of "service availability" may be another topic which =

may be interesting, but not specified by IETF. Still some discussion
of that subject may be helpful too.

Concatenation and correlation of separate measurements seems to =

be a required activity too. The connectionless Internet communication =

may make this tricky or non-ambiguity of different monitoring results =

difficult. =

I assume active measurements as the standard technology for end to end =

IP transport SLA monitoring. =

Regards,

Rudiger

| =

| Hi all,
| =

| In Philadelphia, we discussed the future of the group now =

| that we get close to finishing the work that is on our plate. =

| We had some discussion on possible future work items:
| =

| =3D Passive measurements
| =3D SLA Monitoring
| =3D Comparision of metrics.
| =

| I may have forgotten something (and I'm not sitting near the minutes,
| so I can't check). The first two items aren't covered
| by our current charter, so if we'd want to work on them, we =

| need to recharter.
| =

| In Philly, people did suggest to have a BoF to discuss this =

| in Dublin. The cut-off date to requests BoF is about two =

| weeks from today, so, if you still feel like this, please =

| drop us a note to confirm your interest. It'd be even better =

| if you could add a few
| lines that can be included in the BoF proposal. Alternatively,
| if you feel that we can do this with rechartering, please say =

| so, again with text for the new charter more than welcome.
| =

| Deadline for all this is about a week from today, May 20, so =

| we have some time to put a request together.

Hi Henk and all,

Our group have been discussing about the items you wrote.
We had proposed the following I-Ds, but it seems there
had been no appropriate WGs to discuss these issues before.
If the mailing list members get some interests,
we want to discuss about the I-Ds in Dublin.

draft-kikuchi-passive-measure-01.txt
draft-kikuchi-tunnel-measure-req-02.txt

We have tried to define some kinds of metrics
and a method of passive measurement in the former I-D,
based on the requirements written in the latter I-D.
(The latter one had expired in a few days ago,
sorry for inconvenience)

The latter I-D originally states the requirements
of passive measurement of tunnels though,
it may adapt to other transports.

Regards, Yu.

An IWC watch is a uniquely handcrafted time piece that combines a classical element with a timeless elegance. Its appeal comes from their traditional beauty and their superb performance. But this sophistication has always come with a high price tag. Except of course, when you buy an IWC replica. And Prestige Replicas has dozens of IWC replica watches at prices so incredibly low that you can rest assured they won't last long! So, why not head over to Prestige Replicas right now and take a look at their IWC watches? After all, isn't it time you wore a splendid wristwatch without having to spend a fortune?

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the IP Performance Metrics Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Information Model and XML Data Model for Traceroute Measurements
	Author(s) : S. Niccolini, et al.
	Filename : draft-ietf-ippm-storetraceroutes-09.txt
	Pages : 69
	Date : 2008-05-20

This document describes a standard way to store the configuration and
the results of traceroute measurements. This document first of all
describes the terminology used in this document and the traceroute
tool itself; afterwards, the common information model is defined
dividing the information elements in two semantically separated
groups (configuration elements and results ones). Moreover an
additional element is defined to relate configuration elements and
results ones by means of a common unique identifier. On the basis of
the information model a data model based on XML is defined to store
the results of traceroute measurements.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ippm-storetraceroutes-09.txt

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP at:

issues, we'll post a summary of changes and move the doc back to WGLC.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories.
This draft is a work item of the IP Performance Metrics Working Group of the IETF.

Title : A Two-way Active Measurement Protocol (TWAMP)
	Author(s)	: J. Babiarz
	Filename	: draft-ietf-ippm-twamp-07.txt
	Pages : 25
	Date : 2008-5-22

The One-way Active Measurement Protocol [RFC4656] (OWAMP) provides
a common protocol for measuring one-way metrics between network
devices. OWAMP can be used bi-directionally to measure one-way
metrics in both directions between two network elements. However,
it does not accommodate round-trip or two-way measurements. This
memo specifies a Two-way Active Measurement Protocol (TWAMP), based
on the OWAMP, that adds two-way or round-trip measurement
capabilities. The TWAMP measurement architecture is usually
comprised of two hosts with specific roles, and this allows for
some protocol simplifications, making it an attractive alternative
  in some circumstances.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ippm-twamp-07.txt

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP at:
ftp://ftp.ietf.org/internet-drafts/

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.

Everybody knows that a Cartier watch is a silent statement of wealth and luxury. But we all know as well that the price of putting one of them on your wrist is for the most unaffordable by the average Joe. That's why replica Cartier watches are becoming more and more popular by the day. They're actually the affordable solution to this dilemma. And thanks to the internet, there is now a place where the highest quality Cartier replicas are available: Prestige Replicas. So, why not take a look at the extensive inventory that this site has to offer? After all, browsing through their hundreds of Cartier watches is absolutely free, and buying the one of your dreams is simply inexpensive.

Hi IPPMers and BMWGers,

Recently the LSP dynamic provisioning performance draft is adopted as a
working item of CCAMP. The draft, abstract shown below, defines a set of
metrics to characterize the performance of a signaling protocol in the
control plane, which normally runs on top of a packet switched control
network. The draft proposes the metrics be tested in an active fashion. It
also proposes that some of the metrics be implemented in an online or be
collected passively.

The authors would now like to solicit comments among the performance metric
experts, as this document contains notations that are commonly seen in IPPM
and BMWG. The authors believe that your expertise can help us further
improve this document, with regard to the definition of the metrics and the
structure as well. Please send your comments directly to the authors, or, to
the CCAMP working group mail list (ccamp@ops.ietf.org). We do appreciate
your input.

Title: Label Switched Path (LSP) Dynamical Provisioning Performance Metrics
in Generalized MPLS Networks

         Filename : draft-ietf-ccamp-lsp-dppm-01.txt

         Pages : 39

Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) is one of the most

promising candidate technologies for the future data transmission

network. The GMPLS has been developed to control and cooperate

different kinds of network elements, such as conventional routers,

switches, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) systems, Add-

Drop Multiplexors (ADMs), photonic cross-connects (PXCs), optical

cross-connects (OXCs), etc. Dynamic provisioning ability of these

physically diverse devices differs from each other drastically. At

the same time, the need for dynamically provisioned connections is

increasing because optical networks are being deployed in metro area.

As different applications have varied requirements in the

provisioning performance of optical networks, it is imperative to

define standardized metrics and procedures such that the performance

of networks and application needs can be mapped to each other.

This document provides a series of performance metrics to evaluate

the dynamic LSP provisioning performance in GMPLS networks,

specifically the dynamical LSP setup/release performance. These

metrics can depict the features of the GMPLS network in LSP dynamic

provisioning. They can also be used in operational networks for

carriers to monitor the control plane performance in realtime.

Weiqiang
