I asked for a 2 hour session because we have a lot of work to do with JSContact and JMAP Contacts, and we were a bit tight for time to talk about other formats last time. I'm hoping we can get started on some other formats as well at this meeting.

Bron.

Yes, we can generalise this as an object that is of type `String[Boolean]`, where the keys are the names of the rights and the values whether you have that right. The set of rights will be data type dependent, but the shape of the data is the same.

Reviewer: Daniel Franke
Review result: Ready

I have reviewed this document as part of the security directorate's
ongoing effort to review all IETF documents being processed by the
IESG. These comments were written primarily for the benefit of the
security area directors. Document editors and WG chairs should
treat these comments just like any other last call comments.

This document's Security Considerations section is appropriately brief because
it doesn't introduce much in the way of new ones: the security model for JMAP
MDN isn't essentially different from the security model for the analogous IMAP
functionality. But had I reviewed RFC 8098, I would have urged some changes to
the Privacy Considerations section of that document. It's not that anything is
wrong or overlooked, but its emphasis is odd. It focuses mostly on leakage of
impersonal details like OS version and network topology, with nothing but a
parenthetical mention given to the significant personal intrusion of monitoring
message read times. Every abusive boss knows this trick: send your subordinates
an email at 5:00 AM on Saturday and watch when the delivery receipts come in. I
wish that something in the corpus of MDN-related RFCs would do a better job of
acknowledging this, even if this one in particular is not the most appropriate
place for it.

Daniel, thanks for the review. And yes, MDNs themselves, no matter how
they conveyed, are privacy-intrusive. That=E2=80=99s why I have them disab=
led in
my user agent, and most, if not all standards-compliant MUAs allow that.

And that=E2=80=99s not accidental: it actually is written into the MDN spec=
, RFC
2298. From Section 2.1:

While Internet standards normally do not specify the behavior of user
interfaces, it is strongly recommended that the user agent obtain the
user's consent before sending an MDN. This consent could be obtained
for each message through some sort of prompt or dialog box, or
globally through the user's setting of a preference. The user might
also indicate globally that MDNs are never to be sent or that a
"denied" MDN is always sent in response to a request for an MDN.

There=E2=80=99s more there, as well, and I think it covers things reasonabl=
e well,
even if it doesn=E2=80=99t explain what the threats are. If we should ever=
 do an
update of the MDN spec, we would definitely add that.

Authors and shepherd,

I'm just doing a final check on whether draft-ietf-jmap-mdn-16 is
ready for approval. Is there anything else the authors would like to
check or tweak before I approve it? Please let me know either way.

Thanks,
Barry

Hey all,

as discussed during last IETF, we pushed forward with a first draft of=20
JMAP for Tasks.

It is heavily based on JMAP for Calendars and uses the new sharing spec. =

There are certainly still some gaps and some issues we would like to=20
discuss deeper. Looking forward to any comments!

Regards,

Joris

The IESG has approved the following document:
- 'Handling Message Disposition Notification with JMAP'
  (draft-ietf-jmap-mdn-17.txt) as Proposed Standard

This document is the product of the JSON Mail Access Protocol Working Group.

The IESG contact persons are Murray Kucherawy and Barry Leiba.

A URL of this Internet Draft is:
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-jmap-mdn/

Technical Summary

This spec extends JMAP-mail with an object representation for message
delivery notification messages and allows the server to create and
parse those notifications on behalf of the client.

Working Group Summary

This document underwent numerous revisions in the working group. As
the first extension to the JMAP spec written by somebody other than
the original authors, it's going to set the example that future
extensions work from, and the authors did an excellent job of
collating feedback and making sure their spec was consistent with
  the "JMAP way".

Document Quality

This spec is quite easy to implement - there is a mostly complete
implementation in the Cyrus IMAP server already.

Personnel

Document Shepherd - Bron Gondwana (JMAP co-chair)
Responsible Area Director - Barry Leiba
