A couple of points.

First, I don't believe key derivation helps protect against a situation
where the long-term key is compromised.
There are cases where key derivation minimizes the use of long-term
keys, and there are some cases where that can reduce the chance of
compromise.

I think there is a requirement that what we recommend in KARP support
changing the session key without breaking routing adjacencies. You can
do that either by having a way to replace a transport connection or
having a way to replace the tkey within a session.

Note that SSH definitely does support replacing the key of an existing
session; key exchange can be re-executed.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Keying and Authentication for Routing Protocols Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Database of Long-Lived Symmetric Cryptographic Keys
	Author(s) : R. Housley, T. Polk
	Filename : draft-ietf-karp-crypto-key-table-01.txt
	Pages : 8
	Date : 2011-05-16

This document specifies the information contained in a database of
long-lived cryptographic keys used by many different security
protocols. The database design supports both manual and automated
key management. In many instances, the security protocols do not
directly use the long-lived key, but rather a key derivation function
is used to derive a short-lived key from a long-lived key.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-karp-crypto-key-table-01.txt

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP at:
ftp://ftp.ietf.org/internet-drafts/

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.

Have updated the draft based on comments received at the last IETF
meeting. The biggest change is the addition of PCEP to the list of
routing protocols as suggested by the chairs.

Would ask that the document be adopted as a WG item.

Thanks.
