This document specifies a negotiation mechanism for the Generic
Security Service Application Program Interface (GSS-API), which is
described in RFC 2743. GSS-API peers can use this negotiation
mechanism to choose from a common set of security mechanisms.
If per-message integrity services are available on the established
mechanism context, then the negotiation is protected against an
attacker that forces the selection of a mechanism not desired by the
peers.

This mechanism replaces RFC 2478 in order to fix defects in that
specification and to describe how to inter-operate with
implementations of that specification that are commonly deployed on
the Internet.

This document is a product of the Kitten (GSS-API Next Generation)
Working Group of the IETF.

This is now a Proposed Standard Protocol.

This document specifies an Internet standards track protocol for
the Internet community, and requests discussion and suggestions
for improvements. Please refer to the current edition of the
"Internet Official Protocol Standards" (STD 1) for the
standardization state and status of this protocol. Distribution
of this memo is unlimited.

This announcement is sent to the IETF list and the RFC-DIST list.
Requests to be added to or deleted from the IETF distribution list
should be sent to IETF-REQUEST@IETF.ORG. Requests to be
added to or deleted from the RFC-DIST distribution list should
be sent to RFC-DIST-REQUEST@RFC-EDITOR.ORG.

Details on obtaining RFCs via FTP or EMAIL may be obtained by sending
an EMAIL message to rfc-info@RFC-EDITOR.ORG with the message body
help: ways_to_get_rfcs. For example:

        To: rfc-info@RFC-EDITOR.ORG
        Subject: getting rfcs

        help: ways_to_get_rfcs

Requests for special distribution should be addressed to either the
author of the RFC in question, or to RFC-Manager@RFC-EDITOR.ORG. Unless
specifically noted otherwise on the RFC itself, all RFCs are for
unlimited distribution.

Submissions for Requests for Comments should be sent to
RFC-EDITOR@RFC-EDITOR.ORG. Please consult RFC 2223, Instructions to RFC
Authors, for further information.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Kitten (GSS-API Next Generation) Working Group of the IETF.

	Title : GSS-API Naming Extensions
	Author(s)	: N. Williams
	Filename	: draft-ietf-kitten-gssapi-naming-exts-01.txt
	Pages : 19
	Date : 2005-10-17

The Generic Security Services API (GSS-API) provides a simple naming
architecture that supports name-based authorization. This document
introduces new APIs that extend the GSS-API naming and authorization
   model.

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-kitten-gssapi-naming-exts-01.txt".

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split

	Filename	: draft-ietf-kitten-gssapi-domain-based-names-01.txt
	Pages : 11
	Date : 2005-10-19

This document describes domainname-based service principal names and
the corresponding name type for the Generic Security Service
   Application Programming Interface (GSS-API).

Domain-based service names are similar to host-based service names,
but using a domain name (not necessarily and Internat domain name)
instead of or in addition to a hostname. The primary purpose of
domain-based service names is to provide a way to name clustered
services after the domain which they service, thereby allowing their
clients to authorize the service's servers based on authentication of
   their names.

Title : Namespace Considerations and Registries for GSS-API Extensions
	Author(s)	: N. Williams
	Filename	: draft-ietf-kitten-gssapi-extensions-iana-01.txt
	Pages : 7
	Date : 2005-10-19

This document describes the ways in which the GSS-API may be extended
and directs the creation of IANA registries for various GSS-API
   namespaces.

Title : Extended Generic Security Service Mechanism Inquiry APIs
	Author(s)	: N. Williams
	Filename	: draft-ietf-kitten-extended-mech-inquiry-01.txt
	Pages : 14
	Date : 2005-10-19

This document introduces new application programming interfaces
(APIs) to the Generic Security Services API (GSS-API) for extended
mechanism attribute inquiry. These interfaces are primarily intended
for use in mechanism composition, but also to reduce instances of
hardcoding of mechanism identifiers in GSS applications.

These interfaces include: mechanism attributes and attribute sets, a
function for inquiring the attributes of a mechanism, a function for
indicating mechanisms that posses given attributes, and a function
   for displaying mechanism attributes.

	Filename	: draft-ietf-kitten-gssapi-store-cred-01.txt

This document defines a new function for the GSS-API which allows
applications to store delegated (and other) credentials in the
implicit GSS-API credential store. This is needed for GSS-API
applications to use delegated credentials as they would use other
   credentials.

This document defines and formalizes the concept of stackable pseudo-
mechanisms, and associated concept of composite mechanisms, for the
Generic Security Service Application Programming Interface (GSS-API),
as well as several utility functions.

Stackable GSS-API pseudo-mechanisms allow for the composition of new
mechanisms that combine features from multiple mechanisms. Stackable
mechanisms that add support for Perfect Forward Security (PFS), data
compression, additional authentication factors, etc... are
   facilitated by this document.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Kitten (GSS-API Next Generation) Working Group of the IETF.

Title : GSS-API Domain-Based Service Names and Name Type
	Author(s)	: N. Williams

Hi.

I'm about to submit 03 of the gss-naming informational document.
Here's the section I have to replace the existing section 7. As you
may recall, the WG agreed that section was unclear.

I hope this provides enough context for a problem statement. Comments
are of course welcome.

    <section title="Selection of Source Identity">
<t>Today, applications such as e-mail clients and web browsers
require connections to multiple targets. For each target the
there may be one or more source identities that is appropriate
for the connection. Currently each application must choose the
source name to use when acquiring credentials or initiating a
security context. However the rules that applications use can
be generalized to a large extent. GSS-API could simplify
application design and implementation by taking a larger role in
selection of source identity to use when connecting to a
      particular target.</t>
      <t>Currently GSS-API credentials represent a single mechanism
name. that is, by the time credentials are acquired, a
particular single identity must be chosen for each mechanism in
the credential. All these identities must correspond to a
      single mechanism independent name. </t>
<t>Two possibilities have been proposed for involving GSS-API
in the selection of source identities. First, the restriction
that a mechanism name must be chosen when credentials are
acquired could be relaxed. Some name form would need to be
used, but this name form could represent a set of
possibilities. The particular identity would be chosen when
context establishment happened. This could involve information
received from the target in identity selection.</t>
<t>Another possibility is to provide a mechanism to acquire
credentials and to provide information about the target when
credentials are acquired. This would be much less of a change
to GSS-API but would not allow information received from the
      target to choose identity selection.</t>
<t>With both approaches, information to communicate the needs of
the application to the GSS-API mechanism will be required. For
example, hinting about whether information can be cached and
about the scope of cache entries is required. </t>

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Kitten (GSS-API Next Generation) Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Desired Enhancements to GSSAPI Naming
	Author(s)	: S. Hartman
	Filename	: draft-ietf-kitten-gss-naming-03.txt
	Pages : 15
	Date : 2005-10-26

The Generic Security Services API (GSS-API) provides a naming
architecture that supports name-based authorization. GSS-API
authenticates two named parties to each other. Names can be stored
on access control lists to make authorization decisions. Advances in
security mechanisms and the way implementers wish to use GSS-API
require this model to be extended. As people move within an
organization or change their names, the name authenticated by GSS-API
may change. Using some sort of constant identifier would make ACLs
more stable. Some mechanisms such as public-key mechanisms do not
have a single name to be used across all environments. Other
mechanisms such as Kerberos include may include group membership or
role information as part of authentication. This document motivates
extensions to GSS-API naming and describes the extensions under
   discussion.

To remove yourself from the I-D Announcement list, send a message to
i-d-announce-request@ietf.org with the word unsubscribe in the body of the message.
You can also visit https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/I-D-announce
to change your subscription settings.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-kitten-gss-naming-03.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-kitten-gss-naming-03.txt".

Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.
