Hi kitten,

Technically, sasl-saml-ec has been in last call since 2016-04-04, but we
never formally announced this. We've been sitting on this document for
a while now, and there was momentum to advance it back in 2016/2017.
Scott has been kind enough to upload a new version, so consider this the
formal WGLC announcement (not that one is technically needed, but you
get the idea).

I'm aware of the reviews noted on
https://github.com/kittenwg/sasl-saml-ec . If you would like to review
this document and have not done so, please (1) let me know so I don't
declare consensus without you and (2) do so "soon" so that we can
advance this document.I plan to shepherd it, but if anyone else would
like to do that instead we can make that happen. Hearing nothing, I
will probably start shepherd duties it in 1-2 weeks.

Thanks,
--Robbie

Hello Scott and Simon,

There are a number of issues flagged by idnits [1][2] that I believe
need to be addressed:

- rfc4402 is obsoleted by rfc7802.

- rfc2617 is obsoleted by several things; I think here we're probably
  looking for rfc7617.

- rfc5246 is obsoleted by rfc8446.

- rfc2616 is obsoleted by several things; I think here we're probably
looking for rfc7230. I could see an argument for using the
obsolete one if it's more correct, but...

- rfc3920 is obsoleted by rfc6120.

Additionally, it doesn't like having a separate "Normative References"
and "Normative References for GSS-API Implementers" section. While I
don't know that it's technically required to name the sections a certain
way, I think it would be easiest to make a single "Normative References"
section.

Could you please address these and resubmit?

Thanks,
--Robbie

Hello KITTEN WG,

I am stepping down as a co-chair of KITTEN, ending just over 5 years as
one of your stewards.

I wish to thank my current and previous co-chairs for their work
(including Shawn Emery, Ben Kaduk, and Robbie Harwood), the previous and
current responsible ADs (Stephen Farrel, ekr, and Ben Kaduk), and of
course the participants of KITTEN for all your contributions.

Thank you,

-
Matthew A. Miller
Former KITTEN co-chair

My recollection is that the references have to be divided into normative
vs. informative, but that further subdivision is not precluded. So,
sticking to tradition is probably okay (but we may get further comments
about it from directorate and/or IESG reviews).

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Common Authentication Technology Next Generation WG of the IETF.

Title : SAML Enhanced Client SASL and GSS-API Mechanisms
        Authors : Scott Cantor
                          Simon Josefsson
	Filename : draft-ietf-kitten-sasl-saml-ec-19.txt
	Pages : 34
	Date : 2019-08-28

Abstract:
Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) 2.0 is a generalized
framework for the exchange of security-related information between
asserting and relying parties. Simple Authentication and Security
Layer (SASL) and the Generic Security Service Application Program
Interface (GSS-API) are application frameworks to facilitate an
extensible authentication model. This document specifies a SASL and
GSS-API mechanism for SAML 2.0 that leverages the capabilities of a
SAML-aware "enhanced client" to address significant barriers to
federated authentication in a manner that encourages reuse of
existing SAML bindings and profiles designed for non-browser
   scenarios.

Hello kitten, time for more administrivia.

I have advanced draft-ietf-kitten-sasl-saml-ec as shepherd, so it seems
like a good time to examine the documents we're tracking. The documents
currently in our purview from last year are, by state:

# Published document:
    - rfc8636 (formerly draft-ietf-kitten-pkinit-alg-agility)

# Submitted:
    - sasl-saml-ec (as of today)
    - krb-spake-preauth (awaiting CFRG draft decisions)

# Waiting on updates from authors:
    - channel-bound-flag (needs redesign and implementation updates)

# Waiting on additional reviews (just mail your review to the list):
    - gssapi-extensions-iana:
      https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-kitten-gssapi-extensions-iana-=
11=20
    - kerberos-iana-registries:
      https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-kitten-kerberos-iana-registrie=
s-04
    - krb-service-discovery:
      https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-kitten-krb-service-discovery-00

# Parked:
    - kerberos-iana-registries (I was unable to contact Taylor, so this
needs an editor or possibly an author)

# Dead & abandoned:
    - iakerb (no protocol adoption or working group interest)

If there is an item on the list you consider important which someone
else wrote, please review it if you have not.

We also need people to shepherd documents: if you're willing to review a
document, it's not much more work to shepherd it (just writing your
review in the proper format and making sure authors reply to any
feedback). Please reach out if you'd like to shepherd any of these
(chair hat off: especially krb-service-discovery, because I can't
shepherd that one).

Additionally, if there are any I-Ds we should adopt, or that you're
willing to spend time on writing, feel free to discuss that downthread.

Thanks,
=2D-Robbie

I did move the TLS 1.2 client authn reference to TLS 1.3, but I hesitated because that's really a conformance/interop sort of consideration, and TLS 1.2 client authn is not the same as 1.3 and is definitely not the same from a ubiquity / interop point of view. But given that the number of implementations of this is and will always be very small, I decided to be forward looking and just rev it.

That's a fair decision to make; I'll just note for future reference that we
do have a fair number of documents getting published that reference both
5246 and 8446 by virtue of needing to interact with the bits that have
different semantics between TLS versions.
