Technical Summary
When CE devices are IEEE bridges, then there are certain issues and
challenges that need to be accounted for in a VPLS network. The majority
of these issues have currently been addressed in the IEEE 802.1ad
standard for provider bridges and they need to be addressed for VPLS
networks as well. This draft discusses these issues and wherever possible,

the recommended solutions to these issues.

Working Group Summary
This document has been reviewed by carriers and experts in the L2VPN WG
and there are no outstanding issues.

Document Quality
This document was reviewed by the L2VPN chairs and Mark Townsley.

Personnel
Who is the Document Shepherd for this document?

Folks, we still only have 6 responses to the VCCV User Survey. Time is
running out. The deadline for submissions is February 25th.

=20

It is important that we get as many participants as possible to ensure
fair representation in any future PW Control Word and VCCV related work
in the PWE3 working group.

=20

Thanks,

Nick

Per the direction of the PWE3 working group, beginning in IETF77 and
reinforced in IETF78, the PWE3 working group is conducting a Service
Provider implementation survey related to:

=20

- Pseudowire Encapsulations

- Control Word Support

- Control Word Use

- VCCV Control Channel Support

- VCCV Control Channel Use

=20

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/pwe3

=20

This is a short survey directed toward Service Providers who currently
operate networks using any of the defined PWE3 encapsulations. The
results of this survey will be used to determine the direction of the
Control Word support in current and future encapsulations as well as
solutions to VCCV interoperability challenges.

=20

We sincerely urge all service providers to participate. We ask that all
equipment providers encourage participation by their Service Provider
customers. The more feedback we receive, the better view of the
existing network we can have on which to base going-forward direction.

=20

If you have any questions, regarding the survey, especially of a
technical nature, please contact me. If you have non-technical
questions, feel free to reach out to the PWE3 WG chairs and myself.

=20

The results of the survey will be aggregated and shared at a high level.
No low-level details of network implementations will be shared. All
participant's responses will remain private, if not anonymous.

=20

All responses will require a valid email address to help ensure the
survey's validity.

=20

Thanks,

Nick

Hi everyone,

There seems to be pretty good consensus on the WG list that this draft
should be adopted by the WG.

Having said that discussion of the draft was noteable by its absence during
the period of the poll.

We have decided to adopt the draft as a WG doc, but would ask that people
please read the draft and post any comments to the list before the next
IETF.

Thanks.

Nabil & Giles

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Layer 2 Virtual Private Networks Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Extension to LDP-VPLS for Ethernet Broadcast and Multicast
	Author(s) : S. Delord, et al.
	Filename : draft-ietf-l2vpn-ldp-vpls-broadcast-exten-00.txt
	Pages : 20
	Date : 2011-02-05

This document proposes a simple extension to LDP-VPLS to improve
bandwidth efficiency for Ethernet broadcast/multicast traffic
within a carrier's network. It makes use of unidirectional
point-to-multipoint PseudoWires to minimise payload frame duplication
on physical links.

Hi Luca,

I read the IETF79 Beijing L2VPN minutes
http://tools.ietf.org/wg/l2vpn/minutes?item=3Dminutes79.html
and would like to continue the discussion re the captioned on the list.

Extract from the minutes, under (7) Requirements for MEF E-Tree Support in =
VPLS :
-Luca: Can you explain what does not work in the current solution? We can =
use BGP Auto Discovery & configuration to achieve what you want.
. . . .
-Giles: Need to take discussion to the list. (To Luca): perhaps you can do=
cument how the current solution already solves this problem to kick off tha=
t discussion on the list?

Would you be able to elaborate on how the current solution already solves t=
his problem?

Thanks,
Raymond Key

We now have 9 valid responses to the VCCV User Survey. Time is running
out. The deadline for submissions is February 25th. So we have 11 days
and counting.

=20

It is important that we get as many participants as possible to ensure
fair representation in any future PW Control Word and VCCV related work
in the PWE3 working group.

=20

I will be presenting the results of the PW/VCCV survey in the form of a
draft for IETF 80 in Prague.

=20

Thanks,

Nick

All:

=20

=20

Thanks,

Nick

This is the last week to participate in the PW/VCCV User Implementation
Survey. The deadline for submissions is February 25th. The survey will
be ended this Friday evening and the results analyzed.

=20

We have 11 responses so far.

=20

Thanks,

Nick

This is the last day to participate in the PW/VCCV User Implementation
Survey. The survey closes today at 5PM CST. I will aggregate the
responses and provide the results via a draft and presentation in
Prague.

=20

We have 18 responses so far. Thank you to all who have provided this
valuable information!

=20

Thanks,

=20

Thanks,

Nick
