Hi All,

We are meeting for the first time as LSVR working group during IETF101.

To have an effective LSVR meeting, can we ask you to read the LSVR WG
charter to help all in the group to get a level set on what our goals
and deliverables are.

The LSVR charter can be found here: https://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/lsvr/about/

Additionally, may we ask you to have a detailed look at the first set
of documents targeted to address key deliverables within the LSVR
charter. The intent is that during the IETF101 LSVR WG meeting these
documents will be discussed in great detail, and your feedback and
experience is appreciated either on-list and during the IETF101 LSVR
WG session:

1) Usage and Applicability of Link State Vector Routing in Data
Centers (https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-keyupate-lsvr-applicability/)

2) Shortest Path Routing Extensions for BGP Protocol
(https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-keyupate-lsvr-bgp-spf/)

We all know that a good preparation is the best method to achieve the
ambitious goals the IESG has set for the Working Group. We also
understand how busy most of you are as we approach the IETF meeting
and we appreciate you thoughtfulness in helping us have a successful
first meeting. We are looking forward see you all at LSVR@IETF101 in
London.

Kind Regards,

Gunter and Victor

LSVR WG Co-chairs

Dear Group,

The Chairs are looking for volunteers who would be able to review the
following documents in greater detail (listed below).

1) Usage and Applicability of Link State Vector Routing in Data
Centers (https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-keyupate-lsvr-applicability/)

2) Shortest Path Routing Extensions for BGP Protocol
(https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-keyupate-lsvr-bgp-spf/)

Normally, we would ask for volunteers for deeper review during the
meeting, however, given our initial timelines on milestones, we are
seeking those whom can help us drive a thorough and deep discussion.

Kind Regards,

Gunter and Victor

LSVR WG Co-chairs

Hi

Some questions for the authors:

1) Wrt convergence

At what threshold of ECMP are the perceived convergence benefits?People
have deployed very large ECMP networks without any of these enhancements;
so what problem would be the biggest motivation to adopt this extension esp
wrt SPF?

2) Wrt other benefits / drivers listed -
Why do we think FRR and LFA are even relevant in dense ECMP / CLOS networks?

3) In an EBGP design and with no route servers / controllers I assume this
cannot be used? Do you actually see MSDC designs with route servers /
controllers in the first place?

thanks,
-Arthi

Arthi,

As for #2 - I believe Acee clarified, LFA in CLOS is not needed, local fast-=
rehash is the de facto technology used.

Correct. (sorry I had typed this up before the second draft discussion

from the other more relevant convergence discussion in the rest of the
draft.

thanks,
Arthi

Hi

Some questions for the authors:

1) Wrt convergence

At what threshold of ECMP are the perceived convergence benefits?People
have deployed very large ECMP networks without any of these enhancements;
so what problem would be the biggest motivation to adopt this extension esp
wrt SPF?

2) Wrt other benefits / drivers listed -
Why do we think FRR and LFA are even relevant in dense ECMP / CLOS networks?

3) In an EBGP design and with no route servers / controllers I assume this
cannot be used? Do you actually see MSDC designs with route servers /
controllers in the first place?

thanks,
-Arthi

As for #2 - I believe Acee clarified, LFA in CLOS is not needed, local

Correct. (sorry I had typed this up before the second draft discussion
started).
So maybe worth cleaning it up from the draft? Also because it is reference
in the context of fast convergence on link failures; which may take away
from the other more relevant convergence discussion in the rest of the
draft.

thanks,
Arthi

LSVR WG,

During our meeting last week at IETF101, we had a few closing comments
which we said we would repeat on the list to ensure all members were
aware of upcoming needs and expectations.

Please make note of the following:

(1). For LSVR Applicability Document -
https://tools.ietf.org/id/draft-keyupate-lsvr-applicability-00.txt

- New version of document expected by April 14th
- The Chairs will be looking for reviews following the -01 document release
- The group will look for adoption call following new version release
and comment

(2) For LSVR BGP SPF Specification Document -
https://www.ietf.org/id/draft-keyupate-lsvr-bgp-spf-00.txt

- We are looking for further document review from LSVR participants
- Volunteers who are willing to conduct detailed review wanted
- We will look for adoption call following next round of feedback

Given the current milestones within our charter, we will be looking to
progress this work at an expeditious pace.

regards,

Gunter and Victor
Co-Chairs

Hi All,

Nabeel Cocker was kind volunteer to take the lead in LSVR WG minute taking =
@ IETF101. Many thanks to Nabeel.

The chairs cleaned up the raw minutes and posted the latest version at:
https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/101/materials/minutes-101-lsvr-00

If any facts of alternate truth or accidental mistakes, then please relay t=
o the LSVR co-chairs and we'll correct the situation.

Kind Regards,
G/

Hi All,

As mentioned during the LSVR WG session during IETF101, we will soon be lau=
nching a LSVR WG Adoption call regarding=20
draft-keyupate-lsvr-bgp-spf-00

It would be beneficial to have a few volunteers (maybe even named volunteer=
s?) to help the chairs understanding regarding the quality=20
of this document, with intend to expedite technological discussion and docu=
ment progress.

Please inform LSVR chairs if you see opportunity to provide feedback during=
the next 2.5 weeks to help with review comments.

Kind Regards,
Gunter & Victor
