CALL FOR PAPERS

Elsevier - Computer Communications Journal
Special Issue on
Online Social Networks
http://www.journals.elsevier.com/computer-communications/call-for-papers/special-issue-on-online-social-networks1/

Submission Deadline: 19 October 2014

Online Social Networks are a massively successful phenomenon, used by
billions of users to interact. Nowadays they are key platforms for,
among others, content dissemination, social and professional networking,
recommendation, scouting, alerting, and political campaigns. The
research interest in OSNs is multi-faceted, and exploits an unmatched
source of large-scale data about the human behavior. It spans a number
of disciplines, across numerous fields in and beyond computer science,
all the way up to the analysis of human social relationships and how
they evolve and mature over time. Moreover, the pervasive presence of
users' mobile devices (e.g., smartphones) has opened new avenues in the
design of mobile social networking services, and in the study of the
interplay between mobility and social interactions. Research in OSN is a
fertile ground also for industry, to develop innovative ideas fostering
the design of the new generation of communication platforms and their
services.

This special issue seeks contributions pushing the state of the art in
all facets of Online Social Networks highlighted above. We also
encourage original work based on an interdisciplinary research (at the
boundary between computer science and humanistic disciplines such as
sociology and anthropology) where quantitative evidence is available
demonstrating the mutual advantage of such an approach. Therefore,
purely methodological papers or papers that do not present quantitative
results with real Online or Mobile Social Networking technologies are
considered out of scope. Moreover, special attention is expected in
interpreting the proposed research results in order to shed light
towards what users may need and wish in terms of novel, practical
services and application.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Design of OSN platforms based on human behavioural models
- Analysis of OSN users' behaviour and its evolution over time
- Comparison of human social behaviour in Online and "offline" Social
Networks, and across OSNs
- Impact of Online Social Networks on human social behaviour
- Analysis of the use of social-networking sites in the urban context
- OSNs for supporting novel, social-oriented applications and services
- Mobile and Location-aware Online Social Networks
- OSN services enabled by the analysis of mobility and social behaviour
- Crowdsourcing for Online and Mobile Social Networks
- Dynamics of trends, information and opinion diffusion in OSN
- Smart recommendations and advertising in Online Social Networks
- Information extraction and search in Online Social Networks
- Privacy in management and analysis of Online and Mobile Social
Networks data
- Privacy, Security, Trust and Reputation in Online Social Networks
- Prevention of misbehaviours (spamming, phishing, ...) in Online Social
Networks
- Modelling of Online Social Networks characteristics and mechanisms
- Graph analysis applied to Online Social Networks
- Complex networks techniques applied to the investigation of OSN
- Data Mining and Machine Learning to gain novel insights on Online
Social Networks
- Novel distributed solutions for designing, supporting and operating
Online Social Networks
- Networking, computation and data infrastructure support for Online
Social Network systems

also required to submit their published conference articles and a
summary document explaining the enhancements made in the journal
version.

Papers must be submitted through the Computer Communications website at

Hi,

I am still working on building a full DLEP-capable radio with Mac80211
hardware.

The problem is, as some of us discussed in London, that Adhoc mode of
Mac802.11 does not have enough mac-addresses in the header, so it cannot
be used for bridging easily.

Yes, I got it working with some "creative" mac address scheme and an
OpenVSwitch based bridge.

Yes, Stan was right that this is ugly as hell.

But luckily I found a replacement... 802.11s!

802.11s use 5/6 mac addresses per frame, so you can easily bridge
ethernet frames through a 802.11s wireless connection. It is also full
"adhoc" without any master node. AND it doesn't try to do a global TSF
synchronization as Adhoc mode is doing.

There is a setting for 802.11s called "mesh_fwding" in Linux (it is also
part of the 802.11s standard document, no Linux specifics involved).

If you set this parameter to '0' the mesh node is not allowed to forward
on layer-2 anymore, both protocol traffic and user traffic.

If you set this parameter to '0' on ALL nodes of the mesh, you get a
better Adhoc mode without the problems of 802.11s (the meshing).

What do you think?

Wouldn't that still produce mesh management frames, link tracking, and
benefits like mesh beacon collision avoidance? Do you worry about
interference from those subsystems? Or should that switch imply
disabling everything?

Yes, but I don't see a drawback in this.

Management frames are not forwarded anymore beyond the first hop, so
the overhead is not that large.

We might even be able to use the powersaving features of 802.11s by
feeding the driver with knowledge from userspace!

The new ID message for version -01 of this draft will hit this list very sh=
ortly.

The authors would like to request WG adoption of this draft.

As a reminder, I presented the draft and its rationale at the last meeting =
in London, slides should be in the meeting record.

In particular this is a minor, entirely optional, extension to retain infor=
mation that would otherwise be discarded. Each router can choose to do this=
 or not.

The changes between -00 and -01 are editorial, and the addition of MIB info=
rmation. And a co-author for some of the first, and the second.

Having quickly read this through (I am the one person actually reading I-D-a=
nnounce@ietf.org, so I saw it when it came out), it looks interesting, and a=
straight-forward use of RFC7182 that'd be useful to have written up and to h=
ave codepoints assigned for.

I'd probably want to see a few nits picked in the document (my quick read-th=
rough identified a handful already), but that can easily be done as part of t=
he process when the document is adopted as a WG item.

Which is also to say, that I STRONGLY support that it be adopted as such, as=
well as presented in Toronto (in that order, actually).

imisation as a WG item, both just reissued IDs - the former twice, first to g=
et editorial stuff in, the second to add an experiment section.)

I can only emphasize Chris' request for these two being advanced in the proc=
ess, also.

Thanks for that.

NHDP optimisation has been in the queue for a lot longer (in fact a =
request for WG acceptance is older than that draft). It's had plenty of =
time for comments, can we expedite that one please.

Also MT-OLSRv2 for WG acceptance - as a reminder, as Experimental, not =
Standards Track at this time. It has, as Adrian told us it would, got a =
section saying "let's now do the experiments".

I omitted to say that unfortunately I won't be in Toronto, but Ulrich =
has kindly agreed to present this draft there.

(I'll be doing him some slides.)
