I think the V2V is related to MANET, which we may need to have an action in
our WG working with other IETF WGs, however, the infrastructure
communication and routing is not related to our work. IMO this WG is about
MANET, so we should at least discuss, if we should submit something or not
related to V2V standards?

I think they need to do the mobile work for one hope only, and ipwave is
about both infrastructure network with infrastructureless (we may say
hybrid). MANET WG is only about infrastructureless networking.

I agree with your statement.

I add, the draft is not completed, however, the WG chairs were not active
(maybe bussy) while discussions, and also the AD did not help in my
questions (see my discussions), while that discussion list was not
considering some concerns.

Any author in IETF is already familiar with this group.

We should not do any thing, but the AD and our chairs MUST work close with
the ipwave Chairs, they need to decide what will be done, they need to help
the flow of discussions and ideas.

I think V2V has one aspect that is more [ipwave] than [manet]: one-hop
establishment of IP forwarding between nearby vehicles (not multi-hop).

In such network the in-car subnets are well determined (Ethernet,
detnet, etc.), whereas the subnet between the cars is more variable as
it runs on 802.11-OCB.

Hello,

My name is Evgeniy Reznik.
I am graduate student and I'm trying to implement Dlep modem.
The problem is that I do not understand clearly behavior of a modem.
Can you please help me with understanding rfc8175.

Suppose the modem supports only one Dlep connection (via one physical and
logical interface), the modem is connected to two routers on LAN and the
modem is in session with one router.

What should do the modem in case it receives peer discovery from second
router, while still being in session with the first router?
Should modem silently discard peer discovery or answer with peer offer
signal?
If modem answers with peer offer, then how modem rejects session
initialization?

I could not find any definition for this case in rfc.

Thank you in advance.
Regards, Evgeniy.

Hi,

I would guess there are two options...

first, just ignore any discovery or session initiation if you have a
session running.

second... if you ONLY support the delivery of metrics from radio to router
(no "request link characteristic", no flow control, no setting of IPs) you
could theoretically just run two DLEP sessions, no harm done if the router
cannot "write" any data.

Still, I would add a config option (with default "no") if you support the
second one.

+1 on what Henning said. And, I believe Rick mentioned this was
intentionally left a bit vague to allow for some innovation in the space -
to let implementations to do what's best in their environment. Some
examples of how you could handle the issue are:

1. If the modem only supports one DLEP peer session at a time, then
silently drop subsequent multicast discovery messages sent by the second
router.

2. In the case Henning describes - if there's no flow control or Link
Characteristic Request messages flowing, nothing stops the modem from
establishing 2 sessions and transmitting state information (Destination UP,
Destination DOWN, Destination UPDATE) to both routers. Since flow control
will be a DLEP extension, the modem can just refuse to support said option,
and flow control isn't an issue. LCR could also *theoretically* be handled
in that environment by always responding with the existing metrics
(effectively, when either of the routers ask for something like 'more
bandwidth', the modem responds with 'sorry, this is all I have').

3. If the modem has sufficient (whatever that means) a-priori configuration
to know, for instance, "Router 1 will only use a specific subset of DLEP
destinations, and Router 2 will use a second, non-overlapping subset of
DLEP destinations", then the modem could offer both flow control and LCR
support to the 2 routers simultaneously. Or, you could (again, via a-priori
configuration), designate one of the routers as "flow control and LCR
requests from this router will be honored; but not from other routers on
the segment".

And I'm sure there are more approaches that I haven't thought of.

Regards,
Stan

[Adding routing-discussion, other IGP-focused WGs and rtg-dir, please feel
free to forward.]

Hi!

As we move these efforts forward, we have now created two new mailing lists=
:

Routing In Fat Trees (rift): https://www.ietf.org/mailman/admin/rift
Link State Vector Routing (lsvr): https://www.ietf.org/mailman/admin/lsvr

If you are interested in either effort (or both!), please subscribe!!

The next step is to discuss and agree on a suitable charter for each of the
proposed WGs =E2=80=94 I have asked the proponents to start a discussion on=
 the
respective lists in the next few days. The goal is to take the Charters to
the IESG and have them approved significantly in advance of IETF 101.

As a reminder, the focus of these efforts (resulting from the dcrouting
BOF) is on new solutions: ones that require a standalone effort (WG) =E2=80=
=93 It
is not expected that work/discussions on related incremental enhancements
in an existing WG be delayed or deferred.

Thanks!

Alvaro.

Hi!

Thank you to everyone who participated in last week=E2=80=99s BOF!!

After comparing notes with the BOF Chairs and my co-ADs, we believe there
is good interest to start working on proposed charters for both RIFT and
BGP-LS SPF. I will be working with the proponents on that in the next few
weeks =E2=80=94 the current plan is for me to be the Responsible AD for bot=
h of
these efforts.

Please stay tuned to this mailing list for further announcements on mailing
lists and other details as we iron them out.

Thanks!!

Alvaro.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Mobile Ad-hoc Networks WG of the IETF.

Title : Link Identifier Extension to DLEP
        Authors : Rick Taylor
                          Stan Ratliff
	Filename : draft-ietf-manet-dlep-lid-extension-00.txt
	Pages : 8
	Date : 2017-12-15

Abstract:
There exists a class of modems that wish to support the Dynamic Link
Exchange Protocol (DLEP) [RFC8175] but do not present a single Layer
2 network domain as required by DLEP. Such devices may be:

o Modems that maintain a varying link to some upstream backbone
network infrastructure, where the ability to announce link state
and DLEP metrics is desired, but the concept of a DLEP destination
router for the backbone does not apply. Examples of such devices
can include LTE modems, IEEE 802.11 stations not in ad-hoc mode,
      and some satellite terminals.

o Modems that provide Layer 3 wide area network connectivity between
devices, where individual DLEP destinations do exist, but are not
      directly reachable by MAC address.

This document introduces an optional extension to the core DLEP
specification, allowing DLEP to be used between routers and modems
   that operate in this way.

   Note:

o This document is intended as an extension to the core DLEP
specification, and readers are expected to be fully conversant
with the operation of core DLEP.
