Let's consider the case of two terminations involved in a conversation
when the virtual gateway serving them is restarted.

=20

In this case, when the GW is restored to service, most SSWs are able to
handle correctly the terminations that have been off-hook at the time of
the GW restart.

=20

But some SSWs stop referring to these terminations after the GW is back
in service. The explanation was that, before sending ServiceChange -
Forced on ROOT, the GW should have sent a fictional on-hook notification
for each termination in off-hook state.

=20

We think that, in the spirit of H.248, the GW should not simulate
on-hook when the termination is off-hook.

=20

Is our behaviour correct?=20

=20

Many thanks.

=20

Best regards,

Hi Matia,

I think by SSW you mean MGC.
In case of ServiceChange-Forced for ROOT of MG , MGC should clean up all th=
e terminations wrt to that MG.
Now in the case when MG is restarted MGC should send auditvalue to refresh =
all the states of terminations in MG and arm the events for detection of of=
fhk/onhk, digitmaps etc.
Detetction of offhk/onhk may be triggered in MG by using strict parameter =
=3D state in your example which makes MG to report with or without transiti=
on.

Subject: [Megaco] simulating termination on-hook when the gateway goes out =
of service

Let's consider the case of two terminations involved in a conversation when=
the virtual gateway serving them is restarted.

In this case, when the GW is restored to service, most SSWs are able to han=
dle correctly the terminations that have been off-hook at the time of the G=
W restart.

But some SSWs stop referring to these terminations after the GW is back in =
service. The explanation was that, before sending ServiceChange - Forced on=
ROOT, the GW should have sent a fictional on-hook notification for each te=
rmination in off-hook state.

We think that, in the spirit of H.248, the GW should not simulate on-hook w=
hen the termination is off-hook.

Is our behaviour correct?

Many thanks.

Best regards,

Matia

Hello,

In H.248.41 Amendment 1, the IP Realm Availability (ipra) package is define=
d as extending the IP Domain Connection (ipdc) package. IP Realm Availabil=
ity has a property, "available realms" (ar), that is assigned binary proper=
ty ID 0x0001. This appears to clash with the inherited "realm" property th=
at is assigned property ID 0x0001 in the parent IP Domain Connection packag=
e. From other examples of package extension that I have seen, it seems tha=
t the available realms property should have been given a binary ID that is =
unique within the IP Realm Availability definition, such as 0x0002. This w=
ould allow both properties to be referenced through IP Realm Availability [=
package ID: 0x00e0].

ipra/realm [0x00e00001]
ipra/ar [0x00e00001? or 0x00e00002]

Is this possibly an oversight in the standard or is there some other way to=
distinguish these properties within IP Realm Availability when using binar=
y encoding?

Thanks for your insights,

Hello Charlie, cc: Arturo,

Yes it appears that you are correct the available realms property in the
ipra package does cause a conflict. It either should be binary ID 0x0002
or the package extension should be removed in order to address the
issue. Ericsson was the original editor of this work item. This
Recommendation is also used by Tispan/3GPP so we would need to consider
this when deciding on a path to take.

Removing the extension is probably the safest path to take. Any other
opinions?

Regards, Christian

Hi Christian, Charlie,

Thanks for the info. Yes, seems this was unfortunately overlooked.

At this stage I tend to agree with you, Christian, that it's probably safer=
 to remove the extension.=20

I guess this is a good forum for companies to state if they have an opinion=
. We ourselves may also come back.

Best regards,
Arturo

Hello Charlie, cc: Arturo,

Yes it appears that you are correct the available realms property in the ip=
ra package does cause a conflict. It either should be binary ID 0x0002 or t=
he package extension should be removed in order to address the issue. Erics=
son was the original editor of this work item. This Recommendation is also =
used by Tispan/3GPP so we would need to consider this when deciding on a pa=
th to take.

Removing the extension is probably the safest path to take. Any other opini=
ons?

Regards, Christian

For what it's worth, I agree that removing the extension relationship is pr=
obably the way to go. The IP Realm Availability package definition actuall=
y makes references to the "ipdc/realm" property as though the latter was a =
exclusively part a separate package rather than being inherited through ex=
tension.
