Hi Brian,

A couple of edits and a question below.

In the answer to question 3, I would add "5) technical knowledge."

In the answer to question 4,
s/It is hoped that the mentoring relationship extends beyond the =
interactions during the face-to-face meetings./It is hoped that the =
mentoring relationship will extend beyond the interactions during the =
face-to-face meetings, but the meetings are used to kick-start the =
relationship./

In the answer to question 6,
s/newcomers to the IETF/newcomers to the IETF./

Also in question 6: I thought we were going to use nomcom eligibility as =
a requirement for mentors? Or am I remembering that wrong?

In the answer to question 8,
s/the characteristics identified by the mentoring participant to match =
them with a mentor who has similar interests/the characteristics =
identified by the mentoring participants to match them with mentors who =
have similar interests/

Thanks,
Alissa

Hi Alissa,
      http://www.innovationslab.net/~brian/mentoring/ has the updates
based on the below comments. This includes adding the NomCom-eligible
caveat to question #6. Thanks!

If no one else has comments, I will get in touch with Alexa and
start the ball rolling on a mentoring page off of ietf.org.

Regards,
Brian

a meta-comment: The FAQ is talking to the mentor more than it is talking to=
potential proteges. It may be useful to explicitly split it into a mentor =
FAQ and a protege FAQ. For example, the mentor FAQ can assume knowledge of =
IETF terms and processes that the protege FAQ should not assume.

Lars,
      http://www.innovationslab.net/~brian/mentoring/ now contains links
to two different FAQs (one for participants and one for mentors). There
is a significant overlap in some of the questions, so they appear in both.

Regards,
Brian

I have a draft announcement e-mail that should go out tomorrow. I don't
want to send the message out until I know the mentoring web pages are
available. Alexa says that will happen on Wednesday. I will send out
the draft call for mentors in a few minutes.

We also need to work with Alexa on the mechanics of sending the letter
of invitation to eligible mentor participants. Jari has reviewed the
draft letter of invitation that Lars put together, so that aspect is in
good shape.

Regards,
Brian

All,

Subject: IETF Mentor Program

Hi all,
Based on discussions during IETF 86, we are trialing an IETF
mentoring program. During this trial period, we would like to pair
newcomers (people who have attended 3 or fewer meetings or have
registered as students) with existing IETF participants. The goal is to
provide a resource for the newcomer who can assist them with integrating
into the IETF community. Mentors and newcomers will be paired prior to
IETF 87.

What we need is for people to volunteer to be mentors. As a
mentor, we would ask that you be willing to assist your mentoring
participant before, during, and (hopefully) after IETF 87. The actual
level of interaction will be driven by an agreement between the mentor
and the mentoring participant. Additionally, we would need a brief
description of your areas of expertise, technical interests, and
conversational languages.

A description of the Mentor Program (including a FAQ describing
how to volunteer to be a mentor) is available:

http://www.ietf.org/resources/mentoring-program.html.

Anyone interested in being a mentor should follow the sign-up
instructions contained in the above URL. The more volunteers we have,
the stronger the program will be!

Regards,
The IETF Mentor Program Coordinators

I think it would make sense for this message to come from the IETF =
chair, as the mentoring participant invites are.
