A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Mobility for IPv4 Working Group of the IETF.

Title : AAA Registration Keys for Mobile IPv4
	Author(s)	: C. Perkins, P. Calhoun
	Filename	: draft-ietf-mip4-aaa-key-04.txt
	Pages : 30
	Date : 2004-4-6

AAA servers, such as RADIUS and DIAMETER, are in use within
the Internet today to provide authentication and authorization
services for dial-up computers. Mobile IP for IPv4 requires strong
authentication between the mobile node and its home agent. When the
mobile node shares an AAA Security Association with its home AAA
server, however, it is possible to use that AAA Security Association
to create derived Mobility Security Associations between the mobile
node and its home agent, and again between the mobile node and the
foreign agent currently offering connectivity to the mobile node.
This document specifies extensions to Mobile IP registration messages
that can be used to create Mobility Security Associations between the
mobile node and its home agent, and/or between the mobile node and a
foreign agent.

or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-mip4-aaa-key-04.txt".

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.

Hi all,

I am a new commer on this list. My name is Hoang, a researcher in a
Vietnamese university. Our department wants to make a research project about
mobile application & test it on mobile IP environment. The project will be
realised on Windows and Linux. Do you know which routers and software that
we need to buy ? I mean the routers which support for research, not the
commercial one like Cisco's.

I am very appreciate if somebody can give me a hint on this problem. Thank
you very much in advance.

Hoang

Hi Pham,

One place to start could be to look at the non-commercial Mobile-IP
implementations listed on <http://www.mip4.org/2004/implementations/>.

I don't know if this answers your question fully - I'm assuming that
non-commercial, open-source implementations would be the best for you
for research, but you may have other more specific requirements.

Anyway, I hope it's a start.

	Regards,
		Henrik

==========================================================================

The convergence of the Internet, communications and information
technologies, coupled with recent engineering advances, is paving the
way for a new generation of inexpensive mobile devices, sensors and
actuators. It is the distributed and ad hoc deployment of networks of
these network devices and sensors that bears promises for a
significant impact, not only on science and engineering, but equally
importantly on a broad range of applications relating to critical
infrastructure protection and security, health care, the environment,
energy, food safety, production processing, quality of life, and the
economy.

This new IEEE Communications Society conference will provide a forum
to exchange ideas, techniques, and applications, discuss best
practices, raise awareness and share experiences among researchers,
practitioners, standard developers and policy makers in the field of
sensor and ad hoc networks and systems. The conference will be
organized to provide for a degree of collegiality and continuity in
the discussions of the various topics among participants from the
industrial, governmental and academic sectors.

Original technical papers, which address the communications,
networking, systems and algorithmic aspects of ad hoc and sensor
networks, as well as those that describe practical deployment and
implementation experiences are solicited for presentation at the
conference and publication in the conference proceedings. Papers
presenting novel contributions in such disciplines as digital signal
processing, communications, networking protocols and architectures,
algorithms, embedded systems, middleware and information management,
and novel applications are solicited.

PAPERS:

Two types of submissions will be accepted for review in this
conference:

* Full papers describing original, previously unpublished research
work, experimental efforts, practical experiences, and industrial
and commercial developments in sensor and ad hoc communications and
networks. Papers with a deep focus on a specific discipline or
stimulated by the synergistic interaction of diverse disciplines are
  encouraged.

* Short papers focusing on future research directions, industry
challenges and novel approaches in the field of sensor and ad hoc
communications and networks. Papers in this category must be
  visionary, innovative and forward- looking.

Particular topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

* New architectures, protocols and access control to support
communication, localization, time synchronization, routing and data
dissemination in heterogeneous, large-scale distributed, ad hoc
  networks and sensor networks

* Novel algorithms and theories for management, supervisory control
and monitoring of distributed ad hoc networks, and techniques for
the interpretation and use of sensor data in decision-making
  processes

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Mobility for IPv4 Working Group of the IETF.

	Title : Mobile IPv4 Challenge/Response Extensions (revised)
	Author(s)	: C. Perkins, et al.
	Filename	: draft-ietf-mip4-rfc3012bis-01.txt
	Pages : 33
	Date : 2004-4-21

Mobile IP, as originally specified, defines an authentication
extension (the Mobile-Foreign Authentication extension) by
which a mobile node can authenticate itself to a foreign agent.
Unfortunately, that extension does not provide the foreign agent any
direct guarantee that the protocol is protected from replays, and
does not allow for the use of existing techniques (such as CHAP [10])
for authenticating portable computer devices.

In this specification, we define extensions for the Mobile IP Agent
Advertisements and the Registration Request that allow a foreign
agent to use a challenge/response mechanism to authenticate the
mobile node.

Furthermore, this document updates RFC 3344 [7] by including new
authentication extension called the Mobile-AAA Authentication
extension. This new extension is provided so that a mobile node
can supply credentials for authorization using commonly available
AAA infrastructure elements. This Authorization-enabling extension
MAY co-exist in the same Registration Request with Authentication
extensions defined for Mobile IP Registration by [7]. This document
obsoletes RFC 3012.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-mip4-rfc3012bis-01.txt

To remove yourself from the I-D Announcement list, send a message to
i-d-announce-request@ietf.org with the word unsubscribe in the body of the message.
You can also visit https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/I-D-announce
to change your subscription settings.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-mip4-rfc3012bis-01.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-mip4-rfc3012bis-01.txt".

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories. This draft is a work item of the Mobility for IPv4 Working
Group of the IETF.

	Title : Mobile IPv4 Challenge/Response Extensions
(revised)
	Author(s)	: C. Perkins, et al.
	Filename	: draft-ietf-mip4-rfc3012bis-01.txt
	Pages : 33
	Date : 2004-4-21

Mobile IP, as originally specified, defines an authentication extension (the
Mobile-Foreign Authentication extension) by which a mobile node can
authenticate itself to a foreign agent. Unfortunately, that extension does
not provide the foreign agent any direct guarantee that the protocol is
protected from replays, and does not allow for the use of existing
techniques (such as CHAP [10]) for authenticating portable computer devices.

In this specification, we define extensions for the Mobile IP Agent
Advertisements and the Registration Request that allow a foreign agent to
use a challenge/response mechanism to authenticate the mobile node.

Furthermore, this document updates RFC 3344 [7] by including new
authentication extension called the Mobile-AAA Authentication extension.
This new extension is provided so that a mobile node can supply credentials
for authorization using commonly available AAA infrastructure elements.
This Authorization-enabling extension MAY co-exist in the same Registration
Request with Authentication extensions defined for Mobile IP Registration by
[7]. This document obsoletes RFC 3012.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Mobility for IPv4 Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Mobile IPv4 Dynamic Home Agent Assignment
	Author(s)	: M. Kulkarni, K. Leung
	Filename	: draft-ietf-mip4-dynamic-assignment-01.txt
	Pages : 21
	Date : 2004-4-26

Mobile IP (RFC 3344) uses the Home Agent (HA) to anchor
sessions of a roaming Mobile Node (MN). This draft proposes a
messaging mechanism for dynamic home agent assignment and HA
redirection. The goal is to provide a mechanism to assign an
optimal HA for a Mobile IP session while allowing any suitable
        method for HA selection.

<chair hat off>

Hmm, I guess I am a bit remiss too, in not expressing my support to
the list. So fo the record:

I support the advancement of this document to the IESG with a
request for publication as proposed standard.

</chair hat off>

I've run this draft through the idnits tool (http://mip4.org/tools/idnits/)
which checks a document for nits according to the ID-nits page
(http://www.ietf.org/ID-nits.html). There are 5 nits that needs to be
fixed. The output of the idnits tool for this draft is here:
 <http://ietf.levkowetz.com/drafts/mip4/experimental-messages/nits.txt>
but if you wish you can also download the idnits tool and run your draft
through it yourself, as part of your draft-writing process.

Additionally, the document claims conformance with rfc 2026
section 10, which has been superseded by 3667 and 3668. Please update
the draft to get rid of the nits and incorporate 3667 boilerplate. If
you cannot afford a 3667 boilerplate, one will be provided for you at
IETF expense. (Attached :-)

[ Plug: If you use xml2rfc (http://xml.resource.org/) to produce your
drafts, they will automatically be free of formatting nits, except for
the requirement on using network byte order in diagrams - that one you
still have to take care of yourself :-) ]

Hello folks,

I've recently come across some deployment scenarios which benefit
greatly from dynamic assignment of both HoA and HA, where also the known
problem with home network identification when you have duplicate private
address spaces is more noticeable.

I've therefore written up a strawman document for the allocation of a
sub-type number for a Home NAI, to be advertised by HAs and recognized
by MNs when they come home.

I'd be happy to hear your comments and suggestions regarding this.

The draft is available from the IETF draft area:
 http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-levkowetz-mip4-home-nai-00.txt

and also here:
 http://ietf.levkowetz.com/drafts2/levkowetz/mip4-home-nai/

(The announcement from the ID-Announce list is copied below.)

	Henrik

			   CALL FOR PAPERS

			   IEEE SECON 2004

First Annual IEEE Communications Society Conference on
Sensor and Ad Hoc Communications and Networks

		     Technically Co-Sponsored By:
			   IEEE ComSoc TCCC

		       Santa Clara, California
			  October 4-7, 2004

Paper submissions due (via EDAS): June 7, 2004

		    http://www.ieee-secon.org/2004
==========================================================================

* Novel algorithms and theories for management, supervisory control
and monitoring of distributed ad hoc networks, and techniques for
the interpretation and use of sensor data in decision-making
  processes

* Industrial and commercial developments and applications

* Modeling and performance evaluation of large-scale distributed and
ad hoc sensor networks, practical implementations, and real-work
  experiences

* Theories and models on fundamental information and communication
aspects of wireless ad hoc and sensor networks

* Mechanisms for authenticated, secure communication and data
dissemination in sensor and ad hoc networks

* Integration of sensors into engineered systems, including novel
techniques for sensor renewable power sources, mechanisms for
on-sensor self- calibration and self-testing and efficient schemes
to maximize accuracy and minimize false alarms

* Chip-based systems incorporating multiple sensors, computation,
  actuation, and wireless interfaces

* Software platforms, middleware and tools for ad hoc and sensor
network applications development, deployment and management

TUTORIALS AND PANELS:

Proposals for tutorials and panels on current topics in the field of
ad hoc and sensor networking and applications are solicited. Panels
related to the commercial application and development of sensors and
ad hoc networks are especially encouraged.

DEMOS AND EXPO:

Demonstrations that showcase the practical implementations,
industrial and commercial developments, and new applications for ad
hoc and sensor networks are solicited.

SUBMISSION AND REVIEW PROCESS:

* All submissions will be handled electronically via EDAS
  (http://edas.info).

Please refer to the appropriate link and information at the
  conference website, http://www.ieee-secon.org/2004.

* The conference will only accept for review original papers that have
not been previously published and are not currently under review by
another conference or journal. All submissions will be handled
electronically and must be in PDF or PostScript format.

* The length of FULL papers (describing original, previously
unpublished research work, experimental efforts, practical
experiences, etc.) must NOT exceed 10 IEEE conference-style pages
(US "Letter" size, 8.5 x 11 inches) including text, figures and
references, in two-column, single-space format, with a font size of
  11 points.

* The length of SHORT papers (focusing on future research directions,
industry challenges, highly novel approaches, etc.) must not exceed
  6 IEEE conference-style pages (US "Letter" size, 8.5 x 11 inches)
including text, figures and references, in two-column, single-space
format, with a font size of 11 points.

* Papers not following these guidelines will be rejected.

* All submissions will be reviewed for technical merits and relevance
  to the conference.

* Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings.
