As such, there is significant=20 interest in monitoring aquatic environments for scientific,=20 environmental, commercial, safety, and military reasons.=20 While there is a need for highly precise, real-time, fine=20 grained spatio-temporal sampling of the ocean environment,=20 current methods such as remote telemetry and sequential=20 local sensing cannot satisfy current needs, let alone=20 future needs. The notion of an underwater network is=20 relatively new due to the lack of maturity of underwater=20 acoustic communication. However, networks are necessary=20 in order to achieve the monitoring goals noted above. The=20 physical challenges of acoustic underwater communication=20 require us to completely re-think how a network should be=20 designed and deployed in this environment. Challenges to=20 be overcome by underwater acoustic modem and network=20 designers include: severely limited range-dependent bandwidth=20 and attenuation, extensive time-varying multipath propagation,=20 and low speed of sound propagation in water resulting in long=20 propagation delays. Moreover, a unique feature of underwater=20 networks is that the environment is constantly mobile, naturally=20 causing the node passive mobility. All the above distinct=20 features of underwater networks yield new challenges for every=20 level of the network protocol suite. The goal of the proposed workshop is to bring together=20 researchers and practioners in areas relevant to underwater=20 networks. Thus, many layers of the "stack" from the physical=20 layer to the application layer will be represented. The objective=20 is to serve as a forum for presenting state of the art research,=20 exchanging ideas and experiences, and facilitating interaction=20 and collaboration.=20 The workshop will span one day, including presentations of technical=20 papers, tutorial/survey papers, a panel session and a poster/demo=20 session. If available, preliminary results can also be included. Proposals will be evaluated mainly based on their potential to stimulate interesting discussions, exchange of ideas and promote collaborations. A prize will be awarded to the best demo by a jury composed of academic and/or venture capital participants. Submissions should not be more than three pages (preferably IEEE conference format, 2-column) in length. DNAv4 describes how to detect movement. but looks like it assumes a single interface for a mobile node. there could be a problem if the mobile node has two interfaces attached two different IP subnets but gets addresses from the same private address space. in the scenario described by Jouni, there is a GPRS and a WLAN interface both up at the same time. both interfaces get addresses from the same private address space. a smart mobile node implementation will be able to handle this. we could just say it is implementation specific. the other option is to work on a specification which describes one possible implementation option. Yes, but using DNAv4 your see a location as a tuple with at least (IP-addr, Default-GW-mac-addr), so I don't see how that matters at all. The local address used at each interface is never seen by the applications. Of course, if you've left the routing tables in place _below_ the tunnelling mechanisms, in the stack, they may mess things up for you, but that would be a pretty silly thing to do, I think? Internally in a MIP client (and I imagine this is true for an IPsec client too, maybe even more so) a tunnel would be bound to an interface, not just to the local address, so as long as you do the movement detection correctly, the local IP-address is just an artifact of how the outer IP header has to look to be acceptable once it leaves the interface - it shouldn't be seen by either routing tables or applications, so whether it's a public address, private address or even the exact same IP address on two interfaces doesn't matter... > a smart mobile node implementation will be > able to handle this. we could just say it is > implementation specific. the other option is > to work on a specification which describes one > possible implementation option. Scope and Interests

Today Broadband Wireless access = (mobile/nomadic) is emerging to offer outstanding opportunities. Based on short- to medium-range communication systems (vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside), vehicular ad hoc networks will enable vehicular safety applications including collision and other safety warnings as well as non-safety applications like real-time traffic congestion and routing information, high-speed tolling, mobile infotainment, and many others. Authors are invited to submit papers presenting new research related to the theory or practice of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET). All submissions must describe original research, not published or currently under review for another workshop, conference, or journal. Furthermore, a =20 mobile device centric approach to large-scale sensory networks =20 provides a challenging platform for research purposes. Additionally, =20 connecting sensory networks to the Internet creates endless =20 opportunities for applications and services, new emerging models of =20 operation. The workshop aims to address these aspects, beside traditional =20 sensory network topics such as power management, communication =20 issues, topology management, distributed architectures, peer-to-peer =20 scenarios, etc. Demonstrations and initial ideas are welcome as well. Original, short or position papers (max 5 page), presenting results =20 on both theoretical and practical aspects of large-scale mobile =20 device centric sensor networks are expected.
