A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts director=
ies. This draft is a work item of the Mobility for IPv4 Working Group of th=
e IETF.

Title : Home Agent assisted Route Optimization between Mobile IP=
v4 Networks
	Author(s) : Antti Makela
                          Jouni Korhonen
	Filename : draft-ietf-mip4-nemo-haaro-06.txt
	Pages : 52
	Date : 2011-10-05

This document describes a Home Agent assisted Route Optimization
functionality to IPv4 Network Mobility Protocol. The function is
designed to facilitate optimal routing in cases where all nodes are
connected to a single Home Agent, thus the use case is Route
Optimization within single organization or similar entity. The
functionality adds the possibility to discover eligible peer nodes
based on information received from Home Agent, Network Prefixes they
represent, and how to establish a direct tunnel between such nodes.

I support the advancement of this document to the IESG with a request=0A=
for publication as an Experimental RFC.=0A=
=0A=
My only question/request for clarification: What happens when multiple prio=
rities between tunnels (alternate CoAs) are equal? If no filters are set up=
, is the intention to fall back to per-packet or per-flow load balancing be=
tween tunnels of equal priority, as recommended in section 6? =0A=

Thanks.=0A=

=0A=
This specification defines extensions to Mobile IPv4 protocol for=0A=
allowing a mobile node with multiple interfaces to register a care-of=0A=
address for each of its network interfaces and to simultaneously=0A=
establish multiple Mobile IP tunnels with its home agent. This=0A=
essentially allows the mobile node to utilize all the available=0A=
network interfaces and build an higher aggregated data pipe with the=0A=
home agent for its home address traffic. Furthermore, these=0A=

Student Travel grant for WUWNet11

Overview

WUWNet 2011 has received travel grants from National Science
Foundation (NSF), to support student authors to present

their work in the regular paper sessions, the Demo/Doctoral
Symposium and the work-in-progress poster and demo session
at 2011 ACM International Workshop on UnderWater Networks
(WUWNet'11) in Seattle, Washington, USA, December 1-2, 2011.

The goal is to broaden participation in the workshop by
supporting students with interests in underwater network
research who would otherwise be unable to attend.

The Call for Work-in-progress Posters and the Call for Demos

are at

http://wuwnet.acm.org/2011/posters.php

The extended abstract due dates are Oct. 14 (Fri), 2011

Please consider a submission.

The amount of support provided to each student will be up to

a maximum of $900 if they are not local (more than three
hours of driving distance from the workshop site) and up to
$600 otherwise. The support is intended to defray, but not
necessarily to cover entirely, the costs of attending the

workshop. The costs include workshop registration (at the
student rate), hotel, and transportation.

A total of about 15 ~ 20 students will be supported.

The award will be handled via reimbursements. Each

legitimate expense must be documented with an original
official receipt (e.g., air ticket and hotel receipt).
Further details of the reimbursement procedure will be
communicated to the award recipients.

Applications

When applying for the WUWNet 2011 travel grant, a graduate
student needs to submit his/her vita, a short personal
statement, and a supporting email from the student's
advisor.

The personal statement (half to one page) should include:

   1. A brief summary of research interests and
   accomplishments to date;

   2. A description of areas in the ACM WUWNet 2011 program
   that would impact the student's research;

   3. The paper/poster/demo that the student is an author

   on, if applicable.

In addition, the student's advisor should send an email to
confirm that the student is a bona fide Ph.D. or M.S.
candidate in good standing.

Applications and the support letters should be emailed by

the applicant and the applicant's advisor, respectively, to
shengli@engr.uconn.edu with subject line "WUWNet11 Student
Travel Grant Application" or "WUWNet Student Travel Grant

Support Letter". ASCII format is strongly preferred,
although PDF format is acceptable.

The travel grant committee is headed by Prof. Shengli Zhou
and Dr. Payman Arabshahi.

Eligibility: students must be from U.S. based institutions.

Priority will be given to students who are authors of full
papers, short papers, demo/doctoral symposium papers, or
posters, and team members of the demos. Depending on the
funding, other student attendants will also be considered.

The IESG has received a request from the Mobility for IPv4 WG (mip4) to
consider the following document:
- 'Home Agent assisted Route Optimization between Mobile IPv4 Networks'
  <draft-ietf-mip4-nemo-haaro-06.txt> as an Experimental RFC

The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits
final comments on this action. Please send substantive comments to the
ietf@ietf.org mailing lists by 2011-10-31. Exceptionally, comments may be
sent to iesg@ietf.org instead. In either case, please retain the
beginning of the Subject line to allow automated sorting.

Abstract

This document describes a Home Agent assisted Route Optimization
functionality to IPv4 Network Mobility Protocol. The function is
designed to facilitate optimal routing in cases where all nodes are
connected to a single Home Agent, thus the use case is Route
Optimization within single organization or similar entity. The
functionality adds the possibility to discover eligible peer nodes
based on information received from Home Agent, Network Prefixes they
represent, and how to establish a direct tunnel between such nodes.

        **** Paper submission deadline: OCTOBER 20, 2011 ****

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next IEEE International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile
and Multimedia Networks (IEEE WoWMoM 2012) will be the 13-rd event in
its series. This symposium intends to provide a definitive forum for
networking, software systems and multimedia research in the
wireless/mobile area involving both computer science and electrical
engineering communities.

The WoWMoM Organizing Committee invites proposals for *one-day*
workshops affiliated with the conference. The purpose of these
workshops is to provide a platform for presenting novel ideas in a
less formal and possibly more focused way than at the conference
itself. All papers included in the WoWMoM 2012 Workshops will appear
in the conference proceedings published by IEEE. We expect all
selected workshops to adhere to a common paper submission and
reviewing schedule as outlined in the dates indicated below.

Workshops proposals are solicited in all areas and topics pertaining
to wireless mobile and multimedia networking. Workshops addressing
emerging research directions in these areas are highly welcome.

Each workshop proposal must include:

- The name of the workshop.

- The names, addresses, and a short bio of the organizers.

- A brief description (up to 1 page) of the technical issues that the
workshop will address, and the reasons why the workshop is of
  interest at this time.

- The names of potential program committee members.

- The planned format of the workshop, including a strategy to
facilitate lively discussions and attendees involvement.

- If applicable, a description of past versions of the workshop,
including dates, organizers, number of submitted and accepted
  papers, number of attendees.

- If the workshop does not have any past editions, an estimate of the
expected number of submitted and accepted papers, and of the
  expected number of attendees.

- A tentative call for papers.

- A description of the plans for publicity and workshop web site.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Workshops proposals should be submitted, no later than October 20,
2011, by e-mail (in PDF format) with "WoWMoM 2012 Workshop Proposal"
in the subject, to both WoWMoM 2012 Workshop Co-Chairs (WSCC) at the
address: wowmom2012WSCC@external.groups.hp.com

For any additional information please refer to us at the address above.

I have looked at this thread again, we need to move forward on this document.

My summary of the discussion is that while you Kent know that this won't be an issue in your implementation there may still be other implementations out there. You brought up that advertising prefix 0 in routing protocol would not work anyway, and I agree, but that is actually the situation we should prevent. There will be chaos if prefix 0 is advertised. We don't want implementations causing that to unsuspecting home agents.

I also saw Alexandru prefer approach #2 (though he also seemed to say that prefix length zero is needed, and I think there he was incorrect - with zero there was no problem, the only problem is with non-zero lengths).

My recommendation would be to be on the safe side, and either remove the length hint functionality or include it in a separate option. Your call. Please update the draft and I'll send it forward to IETF last call.

(On second thought, perhaps you can update the draft while it is on last call.. I have sent out the last call request.)

PERCOM 2012 -- CALL FOR DEMOS

The IEEE Pervasive Computing and Communication (PerCom) conference,
entering its tenth year, is a premier scholarly venue in the areas
of pervasive computing and communications. The PerCom Demo Session
offers high-quality demonstrations of all things pervasive from
academia and industry. Demos demonstrating working systems,
innovative applications, groundbreaking ideas, and novel concepts
related to PerCom are welcome. Demos from industrial researchers as
well as demos from academia with a significant relevance to industry
are particularly encouraged.

A "Best Demo Award" will be presented based on research value,
originality, and presentation.

Submission Guidelines:

Prospective contributors are expected to turn in a demo proposal in
the form of a short technical paper (no more than 3 pages) using the
PerCom templates. The short paper must illustrate the research
contribution of the demo, the practical setup, and the technical
requirements. Short demo papers will be included in the PerCom
proceedings.

The demo proposals will be peer-reviewed. The evaluation criteria
include:  (1) extent  and  significance of the research contribution;
(2) relevance  to  PerCom;   (3) potential  impact  on  the audience;
(4) quality of the proposed implementation; (5) presentation quality.

At least one author of each accepted demo proposal is required to
register and present their demo at the conference. Demo proposals
must be submitted through EDAS. The correct reception of each
individual submission will be explicitly acknowledged by the demo
co-chairs.

Topics include (but are not limited to):

Innovative pervasive computing applications
Adaptive and autonomic computing
Mobile/Wireless computing systems and services
Energy-efficient and green pervasive computing
