INTRODUCTION
============
DependSys 2015 is a timely event that targets bringing together new ideas,
techniques, and solutions for dependability and its issues in sensor,
cloud, and big data systems and applications. As we are deep into the
Information Age, we witness the explosive growth of data available on the
Internet. Human beings are producing quintillion bytes of data every day,
which come from sensors, individual archives, social networks, Internet of
Things, enterprise and Internet in all scales and formats. One of the most
challenging issues we face in achieving designed system performance to an
expected level, i.e., how to effectively provide dependability in sensor,
cloud, and big data systems. These systems need to typically run
continuously, which often tend to become inert, brittle, and vulnerable
after a while.
We can observe that this trend is further stimulated by an ever-increasing
cost pressure.

The focus of DependSys 2015 is to create a forum for individuals,
academics, practitioners, and organizations, who are developing or
procuring sophisticated computer systems on whose dependability of services
they need to place great confidence. Future systems need to close the
dependability gap in face of challenges in different circumstances. The
emphasis will be on differing properties of such services, e.g.,
continuity, effective performance, real-time responsiveness, ability to
overcome data fault/corruption/anomaly, ability to avoid catastrophic
failures, prevention of deliberate privacy intrusions,
reliability/availability/sustainability/adaptability/heterogeneity/security/safety,
and so on.

SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION INFORMATION
======================================
All papers in PDF format need to be submitted electronically through the
symposium website (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=dependsys2015).
Submitted papers must not substantially overlap with papers that have been
published or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal or a conference
with proceedings. Papers must be clearly presented in English, must not
exceed 10 pages (or 14 pages with the over length charge), including
tables, figures, references and appendixes, in Springer LNCS Format with
PDF. The majority of papers that finally appear in the symposium will
likely be the result of the symposium solicitation. Papers will be
evaluated based on their originality, significance, relevance, and clarity
of presentation assessed by at least three reviewers from respective
research areas.

Submission of a paper should be regarded as a commitment that, should the
paper be accepted, at least one of the authors will register and present
the work at the conference. All accepted papers
will be published by Springer LNCS (EI-Indexed).

 Call for Papers
Special Issue of Elsevier Computer Communications on the
Internet of Things: Research challenges and Solutions

EXTENDED DEADLINE
-----------------

- Title and abstract due date (by email to comcomsi_iot at iit.cnr.it):
   June 17, 2015
- Full paper submission deadline: July 1, 2015

=============================================================================

Scope -----

Internet of Things (IoT) refers to an emerging paradigm that seamlessly
integrates a large number of smart objects with the Internet interlinking the
physical and the cyber worlds and keeping them in a tight and continuous
interaction. The envisioned paradigm will need to address significant
complexity. On the one hand, billions of smart objects will be immersed in the
environment, sensing, interacting, and cooperating with each other to enable
efficient services that will bring tangible benefits to the environment, the
economy and the society as a whole. On the other hand, they will be extremely
diverse and heterogeneous in terms of resource capabilities, lifespan and
communication technologies, further complicating the scenario. As a result, new
problems and challenges arise spanning different areas: architecture,
communication, addressing, discovery, data and network management, power and
energy storage, security and privacy, to cite a few. Classic Internet approaches
are not sufficient to solve these unprecedented issues, and need to be revised
to address the complex requirements imposed by IoT. This paves the way for the
development of intelligent algorithms, novel network paradigms and new services.

The objective of this special issue is to seek high-quality and unpublished
papers that push the research in all the facets of IoT. Contributions may
present and solve open technical problems, integrate novel solutions
efficiently, and focus on the performance evaluation and comparison with
existing standards. Theoretical as well as experimental studies for typical IoT
use cases (e.g., smart city, smart home/building, smart grid, transportation,
eHealth/mHealth) are encouraged. High-quality review and survey papers are
welcomed.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Cyber-physical and other IoT systems architectures
- Network architecture and system design in IoT
- Addressing and naming in IoT
- Programming models for the IoT
- IoT and Cloud computing
- Integration with existing standards and protocols
   (e.g., RPL, 6LoWPAN, CoAP, MQTT)
- Data management in IoT
- Machine-to-machine (M2M) communications in IoT
- Energy efficient management and sustainable operation of IoT/M2M objects
- Information centric network for IoT
- Social networks for IoT
- Context-awareness for IoT
- IoT traffic characterization
- Privacy, Security and Trust for IoT
- Modeling and simulation of large-scale IoT scenarios
- Testbed, prototype, and practical systems for IoT use cases

EXTENDED SCHEDULE

Instructions for submission
---------------------------

Manuscripts must not have been previously published nor currently under review
by other journals or conferences. If the paper was published in a conference,
the submitted manuscript should be a substantial extension of the conference paper,
with at least 30% of novel contributions.
Authors are also required to submit their published conference articles and a
summary document explaining the enhancements made in the journal version.

Papers must be submitted through the Computer Communications website at
http://ees.elsevier.com/comcom, where guidelines for the manuscript preparation
can also be found (see
http://www.elsevier.com/journals/computer-communications/0140-3664/guide-for-authors).
To ensure that all manuscripts are correctly identified for consideration by the
Special Issue, the authors should select "Special Issue: IoT Challenges" when
they reach the "Article Type" step in the submission process.

introductory paragraph, however.)

----------------------------------------------------------------------
DISCUSS:
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Simple, but necessary:
In the IANA Considerations, Action-2 specifies the creation of a new
registry, but doesn't specify a registration policy. It needs one (along
with a reference to RFC5226). (This section also needs the answer to
IANA's valid range question, but that's not part of the DISCUSS issue.)

----------------------------------------------------------------------
COMMENT:
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nit: In Section 4.1, the "Sub-Type" and "Length" fields' definitions are
in the "wrong" order in the definition list.

In Section 7...

- The IANA URL in Action-1 needs to be changed as IANA suggests in their
review (drop the string after the last "/"). The answer to IANA's
question, "Permitted for Notification Messages = N", also has to be added
here.

- Nit: Action-3 metions two new values, but only gives instructions for
the first one <IANA-3>, and talks about it in the singular. I guess you
added INVALID_FB_IDENTIFIER <IANA-4> later, and didn't fully change this
action. (It's a nit because IANA fully understands what they need to do
here.)

COMMENT:
----------------------------------------------------------------------

As mentioned by Jürgen Schönwälder in his OPS-DIR review:
I see no problem with publishing this I-D as Experimental RFCs hence
give it a 'Ready'. That said, it would have been nice if the document
would indicate whether the extension impacts any of the MIB modules,
namely the MIP-MIB [RFC2006] and the MOBILEIPV6-MIB [RFC4295]. It
could be that the MIB tables simply work for multiple registrations
over multiple interfaces. Anyway, since this I-D is submitted for
publication as Experimental, I do not consider this necessary to
address at this point in time (just nice to have).

Are there privacy considerations that need to be added since a mobile
users data may go through multiple tunnels? Perhaps this diffuses the
traceability of that user since multiple tunnels are used or it reveals
patterns the mobile user may have as different tunnels are selected. If
these are not concerns, can you explain why? Thanks.

Hi Kathleen,

I think this is a good point. Indeed using multiple tunnels=20
simultaneously involves a form of distribution
of data through multiple tunnels and that by itself means that instead=20
of sniffing on a single link an attacker would need to sniff several=20
links to be safer to assume identity.

On another hand, there is still a possibility for the attacker to=20
correlate a number of Home Addresses, with a same number of Care-of=20
Addresses, associated with a single NAI, and intrude privacy. (because a =

particular IP address is often valid only in a particular geographical=20
area).

As much as I find the privacy aspect interesting to consider from a=20
start, I must say that until now we have not discussed privacy aspects=20
of this MIP mechanism. This is IPv4 space, and privacy discussion is=20
different than IPv6. (there is no MAC-based risk of correlation, there=20
is much NAT, law enforcement needs that IPv4 address, etc.)

Maybe we would need to agree quickly on some brief text, or keep it for=20
future work, especially in IPv6.

Alex

                            CALL FOR WORKSHOPS PROPOSALS

EAI International Conference on E-mobility and Emerging Vehicular
Technology

                    13 October, 2015
                                          Bratislava, Slovakia

                                 http://ecarsconference.org/2015/

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The ecars conference organizing committee invites Workshops proposals.
Proposals are welcomed from members of the research, development and
practitioner communities. Workshops provide a forum for people to discuss a
specific topic from the fields of E-mobility and Emerging Vehicular
Technologies and their related areas.

Workshops are smaller scale technical events limited to a specialized topic
area within the general scope of the main conference. Workshops
are commonly organized to explore emerging technologies or
demonstrative innovative solutions to novel technological challenges. In
particular, Workshops aim at examining an area in a less formal, more open
environment for the free exchange of views, and possibly in a more focused
way than in the main tracks of the conference itself.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Mobility for IPv4 Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Flow Binding Support for Mobile IP
        Authors : Sri Gundavelli
                          Kent Leung
                          George Tsirtsis
                          Alexandru Petrescu
	Filename : draft-ietf-mip4-multiple-tunnel-support-13.txt
	Pages : 18
	Date : 2015-06-21

Abstract:
This specification defines extensions to Mobile IP protocol for
allowing a mobile node with multiple interfaces to register a care-of
address for each of its network interfaces and to simultaneously
establish multiple IP tunnels with its home agent. This essentially
allows the mobile node to utilize all the available network
interfaces and build an higher aggregated logical pipe with its home
agent for its home address traffic. Furthermore, these extensions
also allow the mobile node and the home agent to negotiate IP traffic
flow policies for binding individual flows with the registered
   care-of addresses.

Technical Summary

This specification defines extensions to Mobile IP protocol for allowing
a mobile node with multiple interfaces to register a care-of address for
each of its network interfaces and to simultaneously establish multiple
IP tunnels with its home agent. This essentially allows the mobile
node to utilize all the available network interfaces and build an higher
aggregated logical pipe with its home agent for its home address traffic.
Furthermore, these extensions also allow the mobile node and the home
agent to negotiate IP traffic flow policies for binding individual flows
with the registered care-of addresses.

Working Group Summary

The draft was uncontroversial, but the process took a very long time
because of a lack of reviewers. Adequate review has finally been obtained.

Document Quality
There is at least one implementation of the protocol.

Personnel

Peter McCann is the document shepherd. Brian Haberman is the responsible
AD.

The International Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks
(EWSN) is a highly selective single-track international conference
focussing on premier research results at the intersection of embedded
systems and wireless networking - an area of highest relevance for
visionary technologies such as the Internet of Things or
Cyber-Physical Systems and application domains such as Smart
Production, Smart Cities, or Connected Cars.

The featured topic of the 2016 edition of EWSN is "Dependability" and
we specifically welcome contributions that aim at making networked
embedded systems more reliable, predictable, safe, and secure in order
to enable critical applications that require guaranteed performance.

EWSN 2016 will also host a competition on dependability as well as
workshops in emerging areas, one of these workshops will focus on
novel embedded communication paradigms.

The conference has applied for sponsorship and publication of the
proceedings by a major society, details will be announced in due time
after the application has been accepted.

EWSN has been established in 2004 as the European Conference on
Wireless Sensor Networks and has been held since then in European
cities. For the 2016 edition, the scope still includes Wireless Sensor
Networks, but has been broadened to all topics at the intersection of
embedded systems and wireless networks.
