You are correct. I changed it.

I also added references to RO solutions.

I am not so sure whether draft-irtf-mobopts-ro-enhancements-01.txt
should get too deep into the problem space of mobile networks. This is
not its scope. Given that the draft includes references to the RO
problem statement as well as to proposed RO solution, interested readers
may look up more detailed information in those documents.

Thanks for the comments.

Ah, I see. The security analysis was actually already describing the
new thread of man-in-the-middle attacks by off-path impersonators. But
I added some text to make it clearer that this threat is new when we
introduce mobility. Thanks!

Hi folks,

two updates have recently been made to the Route Optimization
Enhancements document, which now has version 03. Here is a list of the
major changes that we made:

(1) FMIPv6, HMIPv6, delegation, and processing improvements have been
removed from the document according to rough consensus of the RG, as
those optimizations are rather unrelated to route optimization.

(2) "Future Research" is now a stand-alone section. It used to be part
of the "Analysis".

(3) Section "Mobility-Related Security Threats" now defines the various
attack types in a shorter, more concise manner. It refers to
draft-ietf-mip6-ro-sec-03.txt for further information.

(4) Section "Registration Procedure" has been compressed and refers to
RFC 3775 for the details.

(5) Section "Goals and Assumptions" has been cut out. We rewrote the
considerations on PKIs in form of "A Note on Public Key Infrastructures"
within the "Introduction". The purpose of this note is to clarify the
position that the document takes on this topic, similar to that of the
existing "Note on Source Address Filtering".

(6) We rewrote section "Introduction". It, too, is shorter now, modulo
the new sub-section on PKIs mentioned above.

(7) The existing "Abstract" was replaced with a single-sentence one.

The new document version will appear shortly on the IETF I-D repository.
  It is already available at

http://doc.tm.uka.de/2005/draft-irtf-mobopts-ro-enhancements-03.txt

Kind regards,
- Christian

Hello folks,

I have asked for a 2.5 hour slot. Let's hope we will get it.

Here is what I have in mind for the agenda. This is not the final agenda
itself. I would like to have longer discussion on some selected topics
of interest to the RG. Based on the previous meeting, here is how I
would like to schedule the time (in no particular priority order).

1. Transporting link characteristics as a function of mobility
    a) succint problem description
    b) why this is a problem of interest
    c) architectural implications

2. Network-controlled handovers
    a) succint problem description
    b) why this is a problem of interest
    c) precedence, tussle (between provider boundaries), limitations etc.

3. Mobile IPv6 Location Privacy
    a) succint problem description
    b) solution alternatives

4. Pre-Authentication Framework

5. Multicast and Mobility

I would like to have a person lead the discussion for each item. I have
contacted folks working on the topics to do that. (If those folks are
unable to attend, they should let me know asap). We should spend the
time to discuss important problems and implications of perceived solutions.

Apart from these, I hope we can issue a last call for reviewing the RO
Enhancements draft. We also need to look into the interest in Securing
Proxy Neighbor Discovery work.

Regards,

-Rajeev

Hi All,

Based on the discussions and the feedback in Paris IRTF Mobopts meeting
we submitted
a problem statement draft on Link Characteristic Information for IP
Mobility. The
draft should soon be available in I-D directory but meanwhile you can
download it
from the following URL:

http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/jikorhon/draft-korhonen-mobopts-link-charact
eristics-ps-00.txt

Abstract

This document discusses the problems related to the link
characteristic information delivery from the mobile node to other
relevant network nodes. The purpose of this document is to set the
scope and goals for possible future work on generic link
characteristic information delivery for optimizing IP mobility
   performance.

We would appreciate your comments and suggestions on the draft.

Cheers,
	Jouni

Hi all,

according to our discussions in Paris we submitted a problem statement
draft on extending Multicast to Mobility.

It should be in the ID directory soon and can immediatly be downloaded
under:

http://www.informatik.haw-hamburg.de/~schmidt/papers/draft-irtf-mobopts-mmcastv6-ps-00.txt

Details:

Multicast Mobility in MIPv6: Problem Statement
                   <draft-irtf-mobopts-mmcastv6-ps-00.txt>

Abstract

In this document we discuss mobility extensions to current IP layer
multicast solutions. Problems arising from mobile group communication
in general, in the case of multicast listener mobility and for mobile
Any Source Multicast as well as Source Specific Multicast senders are
documented subsequently. The principal approaches to multicast
    mobility are introduced in brief.

Looking forward to your comments and discussions!

See you in Vancouver,

thomas

Hi all,

We have submitted a new Internet draft on Context Transfer using GIST,
with the following abstract:

Abstract:
The CXTP specification uses SCTP as transport for CXTP message
exchanges between a mobile node's new and previous access routers.
It also relies on a pre-established IPsec ESP transport mode tunnel.
This document presents an alternative approach based on the NSIS GIST
protocol, which offers a more flexible transport and richer security
properties for context transfer between different entities within the
network that support forwarding of a mobile node's IP traffic.

Before it appears in IETF I-D repository, you can find it in the
following URL:
http://user.cs.uni-goettingen.de/~fu/temp/cxtpgist/draft-fu-cxtp-gist-00.txt
http://user.cs.uni-goettingen.de/~fu/temp/cxtpgist/draft-fu-cxtp-gist-00.html

We would very appreciate it if you could review and comment on the draft.

Thanks,
Xiaoming and John

MobilityProblem Statement

Hi All,

Based on the discussions and the feedback in Paris IRTF Mobopts meeting
we submitted
a problem statement draft on Link Characteristic Information for IP
Mobility. The
draft should soon be available in I-D directory but meanwhile you can
download it
from the following URL:

http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/jikorhon/draft-korhonen-mobopts-link-charact
eristics-ps-00.txt

Abstract

This document discusses the problems related to the link
characteristic information delivery from the mobile node to other
relevant network nodes. The purpose of this document is to set the
scope and goals for possible future work on generic link
characteristic information delivery for optimizing IP mobility
   performance.

We would appreciate your comments and suggestions on the draft.

Cheers,
Jouni

Hi Jim,

I realize there is related discussion in MIPSHOP especially surrounding
802.21 and such. As a follow up to Paris meeting discussion in the RG,
where solutions involving MIP signaling for link characteristics
notification were presented, we are going to discuss this at Vancouver.
The intention is to understand the architectural implications.

Regards,

-Rajeev

Hi all,

 we've written an i-d analyzing draft-ietf-pana-mobopts-00 considering
 various WLAN deployment scenarios.

Unfortunately, we missed the deadline and the i-d won't appear in the
IETF repository before 7th November. For those interested, you can find
 a copy at:

 http://www-lor.int-evry.fr/~bournell/draft-bournelle-pana-mobopts-analysis-00.txt

 Any comments are welcome,

Hi everybody,

a new version of the Route Optimization Enhancements document is
available. Since this has not yet been published on the IETF on-line
repository, here is an alternative link:

http://doc.tm.uka.de/2005/draft-irtf-mobopts-ro-enhancements-04.txt

This new document version does no longer include information on security
threats or the standard Mobile IPv6 protocol. It now refers to
draft-ietf-mip6-ro-sec-03.txt or RFC3775, respectively.

Furthermore, what was originally the "Analysis" section is now more
concise and has as such been merged with the original "Future Research"
section. This forms a new section "Discussion and Future Research".

Best regards,
- Christian

Hello folks,

draft-irtf-mobopts-ro-enhancements-04.txt has undergone a very good
review by the members of the RG as well as the MIP6 WG. It is time to
issue the Last Call for comments before we progress this document
towards an RFC.

Please provide your comments on the list by November 7, 2005 so that we
can discuss them during the meeting in Vancouver.

Thanks,

-Rajeev

Hi all,

Here is an ID recently submitted and that describes the problem of
having Mobile IP perform the IP location update instead of achieving
that function as part of the Network Controlled inter-system Mobility
Management procedures.

Abstract:

Mobile IP is good at addressing IP session continuity (hide of the IP
address change from transport layer perspective, as well as from the
correspondent perspective) but certainly not optimal for mobility
management as would perform 3GPP systems providers that want to extend
their services to IP access systems. This document only describes the
problem and is not meant to provide any solution nor requirement
thereof.

The draft can be found at the following location

etcomm-problem-00.txt

Hi, Rajeev and all,

We've just finished a draft on the problem statement
of Network-controlled handovers.

May we have a time slot to present our problem statement?
I think that 5 minutes are ok. Thanks.

Thanks Rajeev,

I should add that I won't be able to attend the IETF meeting in
Vancouver, unfortunately. But my co-author Jari will be there, and I'll
be reading emails, of course.

Wish everybody a successful and pleasant stay in Vancouver!

Hi all,

We have updated the momipriv problem statement. The new version expands
the privacy problem to include IPsec and SEND protocols. It is available at:

http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-haddad-momipriv-problem-statement-02.txt

Comments appreciated.

Regards,

Wassim H.

Hi all,

We have separated and expanded the terminology related to privacy from the
MoMiPriv problem statement draft. The new draft is now available at:

http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-haddad-alien-privacy-terminology-00.txt

Comments appreciated.

Regards,

Wassim H.
