A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Multiprotocol Label Switching Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Mechanism for performing LSP-Ping over MPLS tunnels
	Author(s) : N. Bahadur, et al.
	Filename : draft-ietf-mpls-lsp-ping-enhanced-dsmap-02.txt
	Pages : 20
	Date : 2009-02-01

This document describes methods for performing lsp-ping traceroute
over mpls tunnels and for traceroute of stitched mpls LSPs. The
techniques outlined in RFC 4379 are insufficient to perform
traceroute FEC validation and path discovery for a LSP that goes over
other mpls tunnels or for a stitched LSP. This document describes
enhancements to the downstream-mapping TLV (defined in RFC 4379).
These enhancements along with other procedures outlined in this
document can be used to trace such LSPs.

Folks,

Here are the changes as part of the draft refresh.

1) Added return code/return-sub-code in the Detailed downstream map tlv
So now the p2mp lsp-ping draft can use that. No need for the new sub-TLV.
2) Added new return code to indicate that LSP is stitched. Added explanatory
text to indicate usage of the return code and processing instructions for
   the ingress node.
3) Updated IANA section

Thanks
Nitin

All,

this wg last call has terminated.

What will happen now is that we will receive consolidated comments
from the ITU-T MPLS-TP ad hoc team, we've been promised that we will
those comments "within a few days".

Once we received those comment could the editors/authors please
prepare responses to all comments and re-spin the draft.

Loa, the comments on the ITU lists have also been submitted on the
mpls-tp@ietf.org list. I have not seen any suggestions that the ITU-T
needs to provide any formal comments on this draft. Clearly the
comments should be addressed before the draft is approved.

Since you have indicated that the draft will be respun, and I assume you
will initiate a new last call, I do not see a need for the ITU to send a
formal liaison in response your request to review this draft.

All,

this wg last call has terminated.

What will happen now is that we will receive consolidated comments from
the ITU-T MPLS-TP ad hoc team, we've been promised that we will those
comments "within a few days".

Once we received those comment could the editors/authors please prepare
responses to all comments and re-spin the draft.

/Loa

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Multiprotocol Label Switching Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Node behavior upon originating and receiving Resource ReserVation Protocol (RSVP) Path Error message
	Author(s) : J. Vasseur, et al.
	Filename : draft-ietf-mpls-3209-patherr-04.txt
	Pages : 7
	Date : 2009-02-02

The aim of this document is to describe a common practice with regard
to the behavior of a node sending a Resource ReserVation Protocol
(RSVP) Traffic Engineering (TE) Path Error message and to the
behavior of a node receiving an RSVP Path Error message for a
preempted Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Traffic Engineering
Label Switched Path (TE LSP). This document does not define any new
protocol extensions.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Multiprotocol Label Switching Working Group of the IETF.

Title : MPLS Traffic Engineering Soft Preemption
	Author(s) : D. Maddux, et al.
	Filename : draft-ietf-mpls-soft-preemption-15.txt
	Pages : 14
	Date : 2009-02-02

This document specifies Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Traffic
Engineering Soft Preemption, a suite of protocol modifications
extending the concept of preemption with the goal of reducing/
eliminating traffic disruption of preempted Traffic Engineering Label
Switched Paths (TE LSPs). Initially MPLS RSVP-TE was defined
supporting only immediate TE LSP displacement upon preemption. The
utilization of a reroute request notification helps more gracefully
mitigate the re-route process of preempted TE LSP. For the brief
period soft preemption is activated, reservations (though not
necessarily traffic levels) are in effect under-provisioned until the
TE LSP(s) can be re-routed. For this reason, the feature is
primarily but not exclusively interesting in MPLS enabled IP networks
with Differentiated Services and Traffic Engineering capabilities.

Working group,

we are sending the following documents to the IESG for
publication:
"Node behavior upon originating and receiving Resource
ReserVation Protocol (RSVP) Path Error message"
   	    <draft-ietf-mpls-3209-patherr-03.txt>

             "MPLS Traffic Engineering Soft Preemption"
             <draft-ietf-mpls-soft-preemption-14.txt>

"PathErr Message Triggered MPLS and GMPLS LSP Reroute"
             <draft-ietf-mpls-gmpls-lsp-reroute-03.txt>

As part of the write-up that goes with the publication request
we are supposed to respond to the question on existing
implementations.

We therefore need to know if you have an existing implementation.

Please respond to the working mailing list, or directly to the
working group chairs.

Hi Matthew,
I noticed you have issued three more versions of this draft but I have
not seen a response to my comments below.

All,

this is to initiate a working group last call for
draft-ietf-mpls-tp-requirements-04.

This document is one of the key documents for the mpls-tp work,
in particular it is important that the ITU-T mpls-tp ad hoc team
verifies the completeness of the requirements and that we have a
good review form all parties.

Please review and send your comments to the mpls-tp list,
i.e. try to avoid doing a "reply all on this message" !

The working group last call will end on Feb 28, 2009.

/Loa

Colleagues,

In my rush to get this ready for last call I made an editing mistake,
requirement 30 currently reads

30 MPLS-TP MUST support unidirectional, bidirectional and co-routed
       bidirectional point-to-point transport paths.

But it should read

30 MPLS-TP MUST support unidirectional, bidirectional and associated
       bidirectional point-to-point transport paths.

This has no impact in terms of the meaning of the requirement, just an
editing error where I updated the terminology section to reflect discussion
on the MPLS-TP mailing list but forgot to subsequently update the
requirement to use the agreed term.

All,

as you can see below the authors of draft-gray-mpls-tp-nm-req-03 has =
request that we accept the draft as a working group draft.

This is to initiate a two week poll if we want to accept it as a working =
group document.

Please send your comments to the mpls-tp list.

/Loa

All,

as you can see below the authors of draft-gray-mpls-tp-nm-req-03
has request that we accept the draft as a working group draft.

This is to initiate a two week poll if we want to accept it as
a working group document.

Please send your comments to the mpls-tp list.

/Loa

all,

this is a call for presentation time slots for mpls sessions at IETF74.

We plan on having one mpls wg session and one session
dedicated to mpls-tp (jointly with ccamp, l2vpn and pwe3).

The draft global meeting agenda is available at:
https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/74/agenda.html

There may be changes and thus the mpls sessions may be rescheduled.

Please send me your requests (item, duration, speaker), clarifying,
if needed, which session you target. Please keep Loa and George in cc.

As a reminder, here are the cut-off dates for drafts submission:
March 2, 2009 Monday - Internet Draft Cut-off for initial document (-00)
submission by 17:00 PST (01:00 Tuesday, March 3 UTC/GMT)

March 9, 2009 Monday - Internet Draft final submission cut-off by 17:00
PDT (24:00 UTC/GMT)

The following errata report has been submitted for RFC5439,
"An Analysis of Scaling Issues in MPLS-TE Core Networks".

--------------------------------------
You may review the report below and at:
http://www.rfc-editor.org/errata_search.php?rfc=5439&eid=1693

--------------------------------------
Type: Editorial
Reported by: Alfred Hoenes <ah@TR-Sys.de>

Section: 5, 2nd para

Original Text
-------------
Consider the requirement for a full mesh of LSPs linking all PEs.
| That is, each PE has an LSP to and from every other LSP. Thus, if
                                                       ^^^
there are S(PE) PEs in the network, there are S(PE)*(S(PE) - 1) LSPs.

Corrected Text
--------------
Consider the requirement for a full mesh of LSPs linking all PEs.
| That is, each PE has an LSP to and from every other PE. Thus, if
                                                       ^^
there are S(PE) PEs in the network, there are S(PE)*(S(PE) - 1) LSPs.

Notes
-----
Rationale:
  Distorting confusion of abbreviations.
The LSPs under consideration extend from one PE to another PE.

Well I'll make the same comment again....

In section 4.3 it states...

o Unlike the mechanisms described and referenced in RFC 3429 [18],
MPLS-TP maintenance messages will not reside immediately after the
GAL but instead behind the ACH, which itself resides after the
bottom of the label stack. This ensures that OAM, using the
      G-ACh, complies with RFC 4928 [11].

While RFC 4928 says

It must also be noted that LSRs that correctly identify a payload as
not being IP most often will load-share traffic across multiple
equal-cost paths based on the label stack. Any reserved label, no
matter where it is located in the stack, may be included in the
computation for load balancing. Modification of the label stack
between packets of a single flow could result in re-ordering that
flow. That is, were an explicit null or a router-alert label to be
added to a packet, that packet could take a different path through
   the network.

So the mere presence of the GAL will violate RFC 4928....the presence of
the GACH cannot fix this...and claiming the GACH does provide compliance
is misleading....the paragraph in section 4.3 should be deleted...

Cheers
Dave

Subject: [mpls-tp] 2nd wg last call on draft-ietf-mpls-tp-gach-gal

All,

an updated version (-02) of the draft-ietf-mpls-tp-gach-gal has been
published.

The draft is found at:

http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-mpls-tp-gach-gal-02

Since the updates are significant this is to initiate a 2 week working
group last call on the new version.

Please send your comments to the mpls-tp@ietf.org mailing list.

The working group last call will end on March 11.

Hi Giovanni,

> draft-ietf-mpls-p2mp-te-mib-07.txt expired last October.

No, drafts that have completed WG last call and progressed to IESG
evaluation do not expire.
You can still see it listed on the MPS charter page
http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/mpls-charter.html
A good place to check the status of drafts is http://tools.ietf.org/wg/mpls/
You'll see the draft listed as "IESG processing".

> What will happen to this draft? Will be an updated version?

The current status is that Nic Neate pointed out a deficiency in the MIB
module, and we have been working (slowly) to fix it. I do plan to get a new
version out before the March 9 cut-off date, but then I have been planning
to do this work for a while!

My guess is that this will cause the I-D to come back to the WG for a
further last call.

It might be worth going to the list archives and doing a search to find the
discussions of the work.

Cheers,
Adrian

PS. Given the rework of the draft, if you have any comments, now is a good
time to make them.

Hi Tom and Kiran,

Thanks for this latest version. A good deal
of work went into this, so thank you for that.

The MIBs compile cleanly with smicngPRO and smiLint.

IDNITS should be rechecked as one (or more)
of the boilerplates changed recently.

General comments followed by specific comments.

Thanks,
  -Joan

General Comment
----------------

*) Should have caught this earlier, but please
request mib-2 as a sub-id for these MIBs (and not mplsStdMIB)

Please see RFC4181 "Guidelines for Authors and
Reviewers of MIB Documents" Section 4.5 for details about
the assignment.

The IANA Considerations sections will also need to be updated
to reflect this, as well as the MIB Modules.

Specific Comments:
------------------------

*) Section 4.1
NIT (typo)
s/the fast reroute method/the fast reroute methods/

*) Section 4.1.1

NIT
s/This table is MUST/This table MUST/

*) Section 4.2.1

NIT: This is the first place that PLRs is used, please
spell out what PLR stands for and then show abbreviation.

*) Section 4.2.2

NIT:
s/This table is MUST/This table MUST/

*) Section 4.2.3

Still not sure the example is correct

Anyway, here's my interpretation using all decimal values,
BUT please check this over:

      In mplsFrrOne2OneDetourTable:

      {
        mplsFrrOne2OnePlrTunnelIndex           = 1,
        mplsFrrOne2OnePlrTunnelDetourInstance  = 6553601,

        --
        --    100 << 16 | 1 == 6553601
        --
        -- 100 is mplsFrrOne2OnePlrTunnelDetourInstance
        -- from mplsFrrOne2OnePlrTable
        --
-- shift 16 to put this into the high order bits
        -- 1 is mplsFrrOne2OnePlrTunnelIndex (need to OR
-- the index value into low order bits)

-- To get all detours of a protected tunnel we could do
        -- a snmpwalk of the mplsFrrOne2OneDetourEntry
        -- where mplsFrrOne2OnePlrTunnelIndex == 1
        -- mplsFrrOne2OnePlrTunnelDetourInstance == 6553601

-- The first value would be: mplsFrrOne2OneDetourActive.1.6553501

*) Section 4.3.1

NIT

s/Backup tunnels defined/Backup tunnels are defined/

Awkward:

"The protecting tunnel is defined to exist on the
PLR in the MPLS TE Fast reroute specification."

Also, please site a reference from the
Reference section.

6.1 MPLS-FRR-GENERAL-STD-MIB Module

*) mplsFrrGeneralSwitchover

Counters should end in "s"

Also, not sure that this name reflects what
is described, could a different name be
used, e.g. mplsFrrGeneralIngressTunnelInstances ?

*) mplsFrrGeneralTunnelARHopProtectType and
mplsFrrGeneralTunnelArHopProtectTypeInUse.

Is the reference for these objects correct?

I didn't understand why these have a SYNTAX of BITS, so
wanted to look at the Reference.

*) MPLS-FRR-ONE2ONE-STD-MIB

*) mplsFrrOne2OneScalars OBJECT IDENTIFIER
                            ::= { mplsFrrOne2OneObjects 1 }

Please remove the mplsFrrOne2OneScalars sub-branch
and just use mplsFrrOne2OneObjects. This will be
more consistent with the other 2 MIB Modules.

*) mplsFrrIncomingDetourLSPs, mplsFrrOutgoingDetourLSPs,
mplsFrrOne2OneDetourOriginating, mplsFrrActiveProtectedLSPs

SYNTAX and DESCRIPTION clauses need to be updated
since these objects now refers only to one2one method.
