+--------------------------------------------------------------------------=
-------+

The 4th IEEE International Conference on Network Softwarization (NetSo=
ft 2018)

will be held on June 25-29, 2018 at Concordia University in Montreal,=
 Canada.

IEEE NetSoft has been created as a flagship conference aiming at ad=
dressing

"Softwarization" of networks and systemic trends concerning the con=
vergence

of Cloud Computing, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), and Network =
Function

Virtualization (NFV). IEEE Netsoft is technically co-sponsored by t=
he IEEE

Communications Society and the IEEE Computer Society.

Scope

-----

The telecommunications landscape is expected to change radically in =
the next

few years. Pervasive ultra-broadband, programmable networks, and cost =
reduction

of IT systems are paving the way to new services and commoditi=
zation of

telecommunications infrastructure while lowering entrance barriers for ne=
w players

and giving rise to new value chains. While this results in considerable c=
hallenges

for service providers, this transformation also brings unprecedented oppo=
rtunities

for the Digital Society and the Digital Economy related to emerging new =
 services

and applications. Examples include Tactile Internet of Things, Industry 4=
.0, Cloud

Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence. 5G will both accelerate and exploit =
this huge

transformation, and as such, smart networking with embedded AI techniques l=
everaging

NFV and SDN becomes essential. This will be made possible through the exp=
loitation

of massive network data with analytic tools and machine learning, =
 allowing

for proactive management of softwarized infrastructures.

This trend will be reflected in NetSoft 2018 in the various topics of inter=
est under

the theme "Achieving smart network softwarization" and the conference will=
 serve as

a forum to discuss the latest advances in this area.

Topics of interest

------------------

NetSoft 2018 will feature technical paper presentations, keynotes, tutoria=
ls, demos

and exhibitions from world-leading experts representing service providers,=
 vendors,

research institutes, open source projects, and academia. Additionally, topi=
cal work-

shops will be co-located so various call for proposals are issued. T=
he topics

of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Programmable SDN and NFV

- Softwarized cloud, fog, and edge infrastructures

- Cognitive and autonomic networking

- Network slicing and slice management

- Policy-Based Networking and Intent-Based Networking in Software-Defined

  Infrastructures

- Real-time operations and efficient network/service monitoring in SDN/NFV

- Analytics and big data approaches for managing softwarized networks

- QoS and QoE in softwarized infrastructures

- Resilience, reliability, and robustness of softwarized networks

- Mobility/Security/Safety/Trust support in virtualized environments

- SDN switch/router architecture and design

- APIs, protocols, and languages for programmable networks

- Lifecycle management of network software

- Debugging and introspection of software-defined virtualized systems

- Transition strategies from existing networks to SDN/NFV

- Softwarized platforms for Internet of Things (IoT)

- New service models and paradigms enabled by softwarization

- New value chains and business models

- Socio-economic impact and regulatory implications for softwarization

- Energy efficient and green SDI

- Experience reports from experimental testbeds and deployments

Call for Submissions

--------------------

This trend will be reflected in NetSoft 2018 in the various topics of inter=
est under

Researchers are invited to submit technical papers, tutorial, demo and =
 workshop

proposals that fall into the conference's topics of interest. Deadlines =
are:

5G is envisioned as the next generation of mobile networks. Several
initiatives
are taking place in Asia, America and Europe, such as the MOST (Ministry of
Science & Technology) 5G project in China, the 5G forum formed in South
Korea,
the =E2=80=9C2020 and beyond=E2=80=9D Ad Hoc group in Japan, the 5G Infrast=
ructure Public
Private Partnership (5G PPP) in Europe, in addition to several
standardization
related activities. The emerging common features/requirements from these
worldwide activities could be summarized as the following: faster data
transfer
rates, shorter latency, availability, security, lower costs and power
consumption and high performance in fast mobility situations. Thus, 5G will
be
the place to deploy many new technologies. In particular, 5G networks are
expected to rely massively on the most recent advances in Software-Defined
Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV), hence offering
the
opportunity to build an open and innovative platform for communications and
a
novel brand gathering current and future network architectures, technologie=
s
and usage. Besides the need for an innovative 5G network architecture,
effective and advanced network management architectures and techniques are
also
cornerstones to fulfil these requirements.

The main goal of this workshop is to present state-of-the-art research
results
and experience reports in the area of management of 5G networks, addressing
topics such as management of SDN and NFV-based networks and services,
advances
in the management of cloud platforms, programmatic languages and
abstractions
applied to resources and service management, big data and analytics applied
to
management.

The 4th IEEE International Conference on Network Softwarization (NetSo=
ft 2018)

will be held on June 25-29, 2018 at Concordia University in Montreal,=
 Canada.

IEEE NetSoft has been created as a flagship conference aiming at ad=
dressing

"Softwarization" of networks and systemic trends concerning the con=
vergence

of Cloud Computing, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), and Network =
Function

Virtualization (NFV). IEEE Netsoft is technically co-sponsored by t=
he IEEE

Communications Society and the IEEE Computer Society.

Scope

-----

The telecommunications landscape is expected to change radically in =
the next

few years. Pervasive ultra-broadband, programmable networks, and cost =
reduction

of IT systems are paving the way to new services and commoditi=
zation of

telecommunications infrastructure while lowering entrance barriers for ne=
w players

and giving rise to new value chains. While this results in considerable c=
hallenges

for service providers, this transformation also brings unprecedented oppo=
rtunities

for the Digital Society and the Digital Economy related to emerging new =
 services

and applications. Examples include Tactile Internet of Things, Industry 4=
.0, Cloud

Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence. 5G will both accelerate and exploit =
this huge

transformation, and as such, smart networking with embedded AI techniques l=
everaging

NFV and SDN becomes essential. This will be made possible through the exp=
loitation

of massive network data with analytic tools and machine learning, =
 allowing

for proactive management of softwarized infrastructures.

This trend will be reflected in NetSoft 2018 in the various topics of inter=
est under

the theme "Achieving smart network softwarization" and the conference will=
 serve as

a forum to discuss the latest advances in this area.

Topics of interest

------------------

NetSoft 2018 will feature technical paper presentations, keynotes, tutoria=
ls, demos

and exhibitions from world-leading experts representing service providers,=
 vendors,

research institutes, open source projects, and academia. Additionally, topi=
cal work-

shops will be co-located so various call for proposals are issued. T=
he topics

of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Programmable SDN and NFV

- Softwarized cloud, fog, and edge infrastructures

- Cognitive and autonomic networking

- Network slicing and slice management

- Policy-Based Networking and Intent-Based Networking in Software-Defined

Abstract:
This document describes open research challenges for network
virtualization. Network virtualization is following a similar path
as previously taken by cloud computing. Specifically, cloud
computing popularized migration of computing functions (e.g.,
applications) and storage from local, dedicated, physical resources
to remote virtual functions accessible through the Internet. In a
similar manner, network virtualization is encouraging migration of
networking functions from dedicated physical hardware nodes to a
virtualized pool of resources. However, network virtualization can
be considered to be a more complex problem than cloud computing as it
not only involves virtualization of computing and storage functions
but also involves abstraction of the network itself. This document
describes current research and engineering challenges in network
   virtualization including guaranteeing quality-of-service, performance
improvement, supporting multiple domains, network slicing, service
composition, device virtualization, privacy and security, separation
of control concerns, network function placement and testing. In
addition, some proposals are made for new activities in IETF/IRTF
that could address some of these challenges.
