Hi,

During the meeting session at IETF87, there was a strong consensus on
resuming and finishing the work on draft-ietf-p2psip-concepts. As per
usual IETF procedures, this has to be confirmed on the ML.

Please, if you have an opinion on whether the WG should spend some of
its CPU cycles on draft-ietf-p2psip-concepts to publish it as
informational RFC or not, please share it on the ML. This short
confirmation call finishes on August, 9th.

Thanks,

Chairs

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts director=
ies.
This draft is a work item of the Peer-to-Peer Session Initiation Protocol =
Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Service Discovery Usage for REsource LOcation And Discov=
ery (RELOAD)
	Author(s) : Jouni Maenpaa
                          Gonzalo Camarillo
	Filename : draft-ietf-p2psip-service-discovery-09.txt
	Pages : 17
	Date : 2013-08-05

Abstract:
REsource LOcation and Discovery (RELOAD) does not define a generic
service discovery mechanism as a part of the base protocol. This
document defines how the Recursive Distributed Rendezvous (ReDiR)
service discovery mechanism used in OpenDHT can be applied to RELOAD
overlays to provide a generic service discovery mechanism.

The IETF datatracker status page for this draft is:
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-p2psip-service-discovery

There's also a htmlized version available at:
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-p2psip-service-discovery-09

A diff from the previous version is available at:

Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of submission
until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.

Hi Jouni,

Thanks. I'll take a quick look and request the publication of the
document to the IESG.

Thanks,

Carlos

I have some very minor comments that maybe can be addressed by the authors in the next revision of the document, together with any other comments you might get during the next steps in the publication process:

I support the publication of this document. Many documents in P2PSIP have r=

Subject: [P2PSIP] Resuming work on -concepts: confirmation call

Title : Self-tuning Distributed Hash Table (DHT) for REsource LO=
cation And Discovery (RELOAD)
	Author(s) : Jouni Maenpaa
                          Gonzalo Camarillo
	Filename : draft-ietf-p2psip-self-tuning-09.txt
	Pages : 21
	Date : 2013-08-09

Abstract:
REsource LOcation And Discovery (RELOAD) is a peer-to-peer (P2P)
signaling protocol that provides an overlay network service. Peers
in a RELOAD overlay network collectively run an overlay algorithm to
organize the overlay, and to store and retrieve data. This document
describes how the default topology plugin of RELOAD can be extended
to support self-tuning, that is, to adapt to changing operating
conditions such as churn and network size.

The IETF datatracker status page for this draft is:
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-p2psip-self-tuning

There's also a htmlized version available at:
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-p2psip-self-tuning-09

A diff from the previous version is available at:
http://www.ietf.org/rfcdiff?url2=3Ddraft-ietf-p2psip-self-tuning-09

Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of submission
until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.

Well, now that the WG has decided to resume the work on -concepts, you

Please, bring this to the ML in a separate thread and try to get
feedback from WG participants, especially those with implementation
experience, such as Marc.

Hi Guys,

In -diagnostics draft, we have timestamp that is used by the intermediate n=
odes to check if the message is expired or not. It raises a problem of time=
synchronization. I think we need a decision from the WG. We need careful c=
onsideration on how to use the timestamp because time synchronization is a =
barrier in open Internet environment, while in a managed environment, it ma=
y be less of a problem. Do we want to enforce the time synchronization or d=
o we want to lose the feature to check the message expiration (and one-way-=
delay)? Please tell what you are thinking about.

BR,
-Haibin

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts director=
ies.
This draft is a work item of the Peer-to-Peer Session Initiation Protocol =
Working Group of the IETF.

Title : An extension to RELOAD to support Direct Response Routing
	Author(s) : Ning Zong
                          Xingfeng Jiang
                          Roni Even
                          Yunfei Zhang
	Filename : draft-ietf-p2psip-drr-09.txt
	Pages : 17
	Date : 2013-08-13

Abstract:
This document proposes an optional extension to RELOAD to support
direct response routing mode. RELOAD recommends symmetric recursive
routing for routing messages. The new optional extension provides a
shorter route for responses reducing the overhead on intermediate
peers and describes the potential cases where this extension can be
   used.

BR,
-Haibin

Hi,

Since some changes were introduced as a result of the last reviews of
the draft, hereby we are issuing a WGLC for draft-ietf-p2psip-drr-09.

The WGLC will be open till the 11th of September to give enough time for
people to review considering the summer break. We kindly ask the WG to
review the document and provide comments.

If you have no comments and think the document is ready, please do send
a note stating that to the WG ML.

Additional information about the document is below:

Title : An extension to RELOAD to support Direct Response Routing
        Author(s) : Ning Zong
                          Xingfeng Jiang
                          Roni Even
                          Yunfei Zhang
        Filename : draft-ietf-p2psip-drr-09.txt
        Pages : 17
        Date : 2013-08-13

This document proposes an optional extension to RELOAD to support
direct response routing mode. RELOAD recommends symmetric recursive
routing for routing messages. The new optional extension provides a
shorter route for responses reducing the overhead on intermediary
peers and describes the potential cases where this extension can be
   used.

Hi all,

Self-tuning DHT adjusts routing table size and stabilization interval
based on current network parameters.

Is replication factor supposed to remain 'two' and not be self-tuned as
well?

Regards,
   Polina

That's correct - we have assumed in the self-tuning draft that the replicat=
ion factor should always remain 'two'.=20

Hi guys,

Nobody responds to my previous time synchronization question. If there is n=
o objection, we will leave it optional. And maybe we can extend the configu=
ration file to explicitly note whether time synchronization is enforced in =
this overlay.

As the base (RELOAD) draft doesn't require any time synchronization

time synchronization in any other draft. IMHO it's obvious
that you may have advantages if time synch is available;
more important is how you could distinguish from the protocol

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts director=
ies.
This draft is a work item of the Peer-to-Peer Session Initiation Protocol =
Working Group of the IETF.

Title : A Usage for Shared Resources in RELOAD (ShaRe)
	Author(s) : Alexander Knauf
                          Thomas C. Schmidt
                          Gabriel Hege
                          Matthias Waehlisch
	Filename : draft-ietf-p2psip-share-02.txt
	Pages : 20
	Date : 2013-08-27

Abstract:
This document defines a RELOAD Usage for managing shared write access
to RELOAD Resources. Shared Resources in RELOAD (ShaRe) form a basic
primitive for enabling various coordination and notification schemes
among distributed peers. Access in ShaRe is controlled by a
hierarchical trust delegation scheme maintained within an access
list. A new USER-CHAIN-ACL access policy allows authorized peers to
write a Shared Resource without owning its corresponding certificate.
This specification also adds mechanisms to store Resources with a
variable name which is useful whenever peer-independent rendezvous
   processes are required.

The IETF datatracker status page for this draft is:

Hi Roland,

Thanks for your point.

In -base document, the last paragraph of section 13.6.3 mentions a little a=
bout time synchronization for preventing replay attack.

By the way, I guess time synchronization can be overlay specific. So the ov=
erlay configuration file can include some parameters to say whether there i=
s synchronization or not. For the overlays which do not enforce it, overlay=
nodes can just ignore the related fields.

BR,
-Haibin
