My take is that we should not go for the RADIUS encapsulation or the new =
header.
I would be ok to remove Section 5.1.2 entirely. However, if WG wants to =
keep
Section 5.1.2 I would add a note there that it is intended to be a short =
term=20
migration solution and can be turned off at some point of time. =
Implementations
and deployments are encouraged to switch to the RADIUS-DTLS port as soon =
as
possible. Would that be OK for the WG?

Abstract:
RFC 3580 provides guidelines for the use of the Remote Authentication
Dialin User Service (RADIUS) within IEEE 802 local area networks
(LANs). This document proposes additional attributes for use within
IEEE 802 networks, as well as clarifications on the usage of the EAP-
Key-Name attribute, updating RFC 4072. The attributes defined in
this document are usable both within RADIUS and Diameter.

Which means that the rest of the document needs to be updated, too.
It talks about accepting UDP and DTLS on the same port. Section 5.1.2
is only *justification* for why that works. The other sections say
*how* it's supposed to work.

i.e. Deleting 5.1.2 means we'd have to delete more than half of
Section 3, too.

I already added that in the latest rev. See Section 3:

This section describes how clients and servers should transition to
DTLS. There is a fair amount of discussion around this transition,
as it is critical to get it correct. We expect that once
implementations have transitioned to RADIUS/DTLS, the text in this
section will no longer be relevant.

If we're just going to turn off UDP, we don't need any transition
path. We just break the network, and let everyone figure out what to do.

The whole point of the text in Section 3 is to document how the
transition path is handled. Including (if so desired) accepting UDP and
DTLS on the same port.

I can add duplicate text in Section 5.1.2. But the idea is for people
to read the *entire* document, and act on it as a whole.

  Alan DeKok.

That would be a side effect of this approach. However, most folks
(including me) seems to be okish keeping the current text as well.
So it would be Joe's voice that counts here now.

No need to duplicate. A pointer back to Section 3 would definitely=20
suffice.

Folks,

There were some comments and substantial edits on the =
draft-ietf-radext-ieee802ext since
the -04 version. Therefore we think it is better to have yet another =
WGLC.

This email starts a quick one week WGLC #3 for "RADIUS Attributes for =
IEEE 802 Networks"
I-D (draft-ietf-radext-ieee802ext-06). The WGLC ends 9-May-2013. Send =
your comments to
the mailer and please also use the IssueTracker. No comments would this =
time also imply
that everybody agrees with the content.

#150: OUI and Suite Type Reference

Comment (by bernard_aboba@hotmail.com):

within IEEE 802.11, the term "Suite type" is used, rather than "Suite
Type". Also, Figure 8-187 defines the "Suite selector format". So an
amended fix is as follows (leaving out the diagrams):

In Section 2.15, Value text should read:

 Value

The Value field is four octets, containing a 32-bit unsigned
integer, in Suite selector format as specified in Figure 8-187 within
 Section
8.4.2.27.2 of [IEEE-802.11], with values of OUI and Suite type
 drawn from Table 8-99.

In Section 2.16, Value text should read:

 Value

The Value field is four octets, containing a 32-bit unsigned
integer, in Suite selector format as specified in Figure 8-187 within
 Section
8.4.2.27.2 of [IEEE-802.11], with values of OUI and Suite type
 drawn from Table 8-99.

In Section 2.17, Value text should read:

 Value

The Value field is four octets, containing a 32-bit unsigned
integer, in Suite selector format as specified in Figure 8-187 within
 Section
8.4.2.27.2 of [IEEE-802.11], with values of OUI and Suite type
 drawn from Table 8-101.

In Section 2.18, Value text should read:

 Value

The Value field is four octets, containing a 32-bit unsigned
integer, in Suite selector format as specified in Figure 8-187 within
 Section
8.4.2.27.2 of [IEEE-802.11], with values of OUI and Suite type
 drawn from Table 8-99.

#151: Section 2.9: WLAN-SSID Attribute in Access-Accept

The WLAN-SSID attribute contains the Service Set Identifier (SSID)
which identifies a specific 802.11 extended service set (ESS). A
single WLAN-SSID Attribute is permitted within an Access-Accept or
       Accounting-Request packet.

[BA] It is not clear what the meaning is when a WLAN-SSID Attribute is
included in an Access-Accept. What if the WLAN-SSID value is different
 from that in the Access-Request?

#152: Section 2.7: Network-Id-Name

Zero or one Network-Id-Name Attribute is permitted within a RADIUS
Access-Request or Accounting-Request packet. When included within
an Access-Request packet, the Network-Id-Name Attribute represents
a hint of the NID-Name to which the Supplicant should be granted
access. In order to indicate which network names the Supplicant
is permitted to access, the Allowed-Called-Station-Id Attribute is
provided within an Access-Accept. When included within an
       Accounting-Request packet, the Network-Id-Name Attribute
represents the NID-Name to which the Supplicant has been granted
       access.

[BA] Should a Network-Id-Name attribute be allowed in an Access-Accept in
order to permit the RADIUS server to determine what NID-Name the
supplicant is given access to after authentication?

#153: Section 2.8 Access-Info

The Access-Info Attribute is utilized by implementations of
IEEE-802.1X [IEEE-802.1X] to specify the Access status information
field within an Access Information Type Length Value Tuple (TLV)
to be sent to the user within MACsec Key Agreement (MKA) or EAPoL-
       Announcement frames.

A single Access-Info Attribute is permitted within a RADIUS
       Access-Accept, Access-Challenge, Access-Reject or Accounting-
       Request packet.

[BA] The above paragraph seems to imply that the Access-Info Attribute
could cause the Access status information to change during and after
authentication. It is unclear how supplicants would respond to such a
change. For example, the potential response to a change in MKA (which is
authenticated) could be quite different from a change in an EAPoL-
Announcement frame (which is not). As a result, the desired behavior is
 unclear.

#154: Section 2.10 WLAN-HESSID

The WLAN-HESSID attribute contains a MAC address that identifies
the Homogenous Extended Service Set. The HESSID is a globally
unique identifier that in conjunction with the WLAN-SSID, may be
used to provide network identification for a subscription service
provider network (SSPN), as described in Section 8.4.2.94 of
[IEEE-802.11]. A single WLAN-HESSID Attribute is permitted within
       an Access-Accept or Accounting-Request packet.

[BA] The above text does not make it clear what a RADIUS client is
supposed to do on receipt of a WLAN-HESSID within an Access-Accept. Also,
why would a WLAN-HESSID not be permitted within an Access-Request?

[Joe] The EAPoL-announcement may be protected with MACSEC if a connectivit=

#152: Section 2.7: Network-Id-Name

Comment (by bernard_aboba@hotmail.com):

 Recommended text:

Zero or one Network-Id-Name Attribute is permitted within a
 RADIUS Access-Request, Access-Accept or Accounting-Request packet. When
included within an Access-Request packet, the Network-Id-Name Attribute
represents a hint of the NID-Name to which the Supplicant should be
granted access. When included within an Access-Accept packet, the Network-
Id-Name Attribute represents the NID-Name to which the Supplicant is to be
granted access. When included within an Accounting-Request packet, the
Network-Id-Name Attribute represents the NID-Name to which the Supplicant
 has been granted access.

I support using the same port as RADSEC.

FWIW, I've also implemented RADSEC over DTLS and at least with my
implementation it would be hard to do both regular RADIUS and DTLS
on the same port. So I certainly prefer them to be different ports.

No other comments.

Its possible that int he future DTLS may choose to define a new extended handshake type that would use a different type code of 22. This would introduce ambiguity and prevent this version of DTLS from being used with this mechanism. It would be a better, more reliable design to have the disambiguation rely upon something that RADIUS had control over. For example, define a RADIUS code type that encapsulates a RADIUS DTLS message.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts director=
ies.
This draft is a work item of the RADIUS EXTensions Working Group of the IE=
TF.

Title : The Network Access Identifier
	Author(s) : Alan DeKok
	Filename : draft-ietf-radext-nai-03.txt
	Pages : 22
	Date : 2013-05-23

Abstract:
In order to provide inter-domain authentication services, it is
necessary to have a standardized method that domains can use to
identify each others users. This document defines the syntax for the
Network Access Identifier (NAI), the user identity submitted by the
client prior to accessing network resources. This document is a
revised version of RFC 4282 [RFC4282], which addresses issues with
international character sets, as well as a number of other
   corrections to the previous document.

Folks,

Please check the revision -03 whether it clears the concerns discussed
on the list (the normalization issue). Also, when reviewing indicate
if you think the document is ready to move on or whether it still needs
more WG work.

Folks,

We have requested for one and half hour meeting slot. If you feel
like presenting your work (be that in the current charter or not),
send a request to the co-chairs. Obviously, chartered items will
be prioritized over other topics.

#156: Access-Info in Disconnect-Request and CoA-Request packets

It appears that the Access-Info Attribute could potentially be included in
 a Disconnect-Request and CoA-Request packet.

 Change Section 2.8 to read:

A single Access-Info Attribute is permitted within an
 Access-Accept, Access-Challenge, Access-Reject, Accounting-Request,
 CoA-Request or Disconnect-Request packet.

#152: Section 2.7: Network-Id-Name

Comment (by bernard_aboba@hotmail.com):

The following sentence is also included in the Network-Id-Name section:

In order to indicate which network names the Supplicant is
permitted to access, the Allowed-Called-Station-Id Attribute is provided
 within an Access-Accept.

Can I presume that this sentence is to be removed?

I present this document for discussion on the IETF Trust Router mailing =
list.

It is a new and completely different version of the problem statement =
from that offered by the Janet people. I think it is a more complete =
and more understandable document that the one they have provided.

The document was started under an alcoholic haze and frustration over =
the fact that the BOF for the group might not occur in Berlin as was =
originally envisioned. The primary hope of this document is to try and =
get more conversation on this mailing list about the problem itself. =
Note that I don't currently care what the solution is. That should be =
discussed after the BOF has been completed.

Jim
