We are interested in the feature set and support adoption. Have a number
of comments and questions about this draft.

1. Is section 5 table correct where a maximum of one instance of each
container is allowed?

There may be value in more than one to for example set IP-Port-Limit to
configure independently per IP layer protocol or to allocate ports across
multiple external addresses. If really limited to just one the TLV
grouping can be collapsed into normal attributes.

If multiple instances allowed during CoA for IP-Port-Range care
may be needed to avoid ambiguities synchronizing change.
--

2. Recommend throughout draft having one attribute/TLV per data field
replacing all instances where multiple fields are defined in
any custom fixed formats.
--

3. Confused by definition of IP-Port-Type 3.1 Extended-Type seems to be
allocating an attribute Id for each IP protocol. Recommend defining an
attribute IP-Port-Type using value field of attribute to determine IP
layer protocol(s) to be associated.

Using IP-Port-Type as a container is problematic the way RFC6929 works
attributes within each container are defined separately .. there is no pool
of global attributes able to be reused short of very redundant
redefinition.
--

4. Usage contradiction

Section 1
"IP-Port-Range:This attribute may be carried in RADIUS Access-
       Accept, Accounting-Request or CoA-Request packet. "

Section 3.3
" The IP-Port-Range MAY appear in an Accounting-Request packet.
The IP-Port-Range MUST NOT appear in any other RADIUS packets."

Section 5.
0 0 0 0 0-1 TBA IP-Port-Range

Prefer option of having port ranges be configurable via Access-Accept/CoA.
--

5. Have had requests to have ability to configure NAT session limits.
For example IP-NAT-Session-Limit (Proto=TCP,Limit=10000) limits session to
10000 concurrent TCP associations in NAT state table.

This is essentially IP-Port-Limit except quantity of associations rather
than ports... noting port limits do not translate to session limits as
ports are per destination address.
--

6. Comments on internal and external addresses.

IP-Port-Limit - Extended-Type (container)
 	- IP Protocol (TCP,UDP,ICMP,TCP+UDP,TCP+UDP+ICMP,...) - TLV
 	- Limit - TLV

IP-Port-Range - Extended-Type (container)
 	- IP Protocol - TLV
 	- Range Start - TLV
 	- Range End - TLV
 	- External IP - TLV

IP-Port-Forwarding-Map - Extended-Type (container)
 	- IP Protocol - TLV
 	- Internal Port - TLV
 	- External Port - TLV
 	- Internal IP - TLV

With regards to IP-Port-Limit and IP-Port-Range on Access-Accept there
should be parity in terms of opportunity to specify external address.

IP-Port-Forwarding-Map would be helpful to include External IP such that
external face of services mapped internally are configurable
independently. (e.g. Customer wants to run a web site on port 80 on
specific external IP)

regards,
Peter

#173: draft-ietf-radext-nai-05: nits

While preparing the PROTO writeup, I noticed some nits which might be
 worth fixing before continuing.

 1) The document header states that this draft is from the "Network Working
Group", while it should be "RADIUS Extensions Working Group"

 2) Abstract line three misses an apostrophe ("identify each other's users"

 3) Section 3 lacks a title

 4) The normative reference [RFC5234] is also STD68, but the expanded
reference does not mention that. For other references, this is done
 though, see [RFC3629]. This is probably a bug in the I-D generator tool;
just wanted to note it so it isn't forgotten.

 5) IDNITS:
The abstract seems to contain references ([RFC4282]), which it shouldn't.
Please replace those with straight textual mentions of the documents in
 question.

 6) IDNITS:
The document seems to use 'NOT RECOMMENDED' as an RFC 2119 keyword, but
does not include the phrase in its RFC 2119 key words list.

 7) IDNITS:
Obsolete informational reference (is this intentional?): RFC 3588
 (Obsoleted by RFC 6733)

Obsolete informational reference (is this intentional?): RFC 5335
 (Obsoleted by RFC 6532)

Outdated reference: draft-iab-dns-zone-codepoint-pples has been published
 as RFC 6912

#174: draft-ietf-radext-nai-05: IPR boilerplate

The document contains the pre-2008 disclaimer.

It contains some text which was pulled in from earlier documents, but not
much. Did the author ask the authors of the pulled-in text if they are
willing to give more contemporary rights to the IETF Trust, thereby
obsoleting the disclaimer? Depending on what is granted, replacing some
inline text with a mention by-reference could lift the IPR disclaimer as
 well.

#175: draft-ietf-radext-nai-05: IANA considerations

The document contains a section on IANA considerations, but after reading
 it twice now

 * it does not seem to have any action for IANA
 * but doesn't state that

The text in there comes from the original RFC4282 and is somewhat
valuable, but it might make sense for the section to be renamed in order
 not trigger questions by IANA.

The remaining IANA considerations section could then simply state "This
document has no actions for IANA."

#176: draft-ietf-radext-nai-05: is the term *Network Access* Identifier still
appropriate?

The document takes two conflicting positions on NAIs.

In some places, it claims that the identifiers defined in this document
are of generic use, particularly beyond network access scenarios (e.g. in
Introduction, para 3 and 4; and section 1.3, third para).

The document title itself (still) scopes the identifiers as "Network
Access Identifier"; also the definition of the term in section 1.1
explicitly speaks about "network access authentication".

The document could be more consistent; if one is to follow the argument
that such identifiers are for use beyond network authentication, then it
is much more logical to reflect this in the name of the identifier, and in
 its definition.

I don't recall this aspect already having been discussed on the mailing
list; my apologies if my memory fails me. If it was indeed not discussed,
I think this is worth bringing up. As an individual, my opinion is that a
name notion of "Unique User Identifier" (or maybe s/User/Entity since it's
not necessarily a human) would make more sense; "Unique" because the
binding to FQDNs makes it somewhat (albeit not absolutely) unique.

Hi,

And now, only 6 weeks later, they have arrived :-)

I think some of the comments deserve a new -06 version before we
continue with the PROTO writeup.

Greetings,

Stefan Winter

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the RADIUS EXTensions Working Group of the IETF.

Title : DTLS as a Transport Layer for RADIUS
        Author : Alan DeKok
	Filename : draft-ietf-radext-dtls-12.txt
	Pages : 27
	Date : 2014-05-08

Abstract:
The RADIUS protocol defined in RFC 2865 has limited support for
authentication and encryption of RADIUS packets. The protocol
transports data in the clear, although some parts of the packets can
have obfuscated content. Packets may be replayed verbatim by an
attacker, and client-server authentication is based on fixed shared
secrets. This document specifies how the Datagram Transport Layer
Security (DTLS) protocol may be used as a fix for these problems. It
also describes how implementations of this proposal can co-exist with
   current RADIUS systems.

The IETF datatracker status page for this draft is:

Hi Stefan,

Not that much replies on the mailing list, but my own meeting minutes
tell me:

Who read this draft: 5

Who is interested in this work: 8

So it seems like a good one to adopt.

Regards, Benoit

      <pre wrap="">Hello,

as discussed recently, we believe radext is at a point where old items
are finished and new work can be added to our workload.

There was a good and positive discussion on what is now
draft-cheng-radext-ip-port-radius-ext-00.txt in the London meeting.

BEHAVE (where this work could fit into) is not taking on new work. The
RADEXT charter already allows us to work on RADIUS extensions, so if
there is support for adoption of this work here in our WG, we can take
it on pretty much immediately.

So, this work needs a home and we could be that home if we want to.

This mail starts a two week call for adoption for this draft. Please
reply to this mail indicating whether you are in favour for adoption or
not. Since the discussions in London were of generic nature, and not
directly asking for adoption, there is no default - silence does not
count as acceptance. So don't be silent :-)

The call for adoption ends 7 May 2014.

Greetings,

Stefan Winter

The 7th of May is now history in all timezones on the planet, so the
call for adoption is now closed.

Of all the four people that responded (2 of which were co-authors), all
were in favour of adoption; plus more support in the room, as Benoit's
mail clarifies. This looks like unanimous support for adoption of the
document!

This document will now become a chartered work item.

Authors, please re-submit this document as
draft-ietf-radext-ip-port-radius-ext-00.

=46rom the comments during the adoption call, I understand that there is
still plenty to discuss and refine. I will tentatively reserve 10
minutes on the IETF90 agenda on that topic.

Greetings,

Stefan Winter

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the RADIUS EXTensions Working Group of the IETF.

Title : RADIUS Extensions for IP Port Configuration and Reporting
        Authors : Dean Cheng
                          Jouni Korhonen
                          Mohamed Boucadair
                          Senthil Sivakumar
	Filename : draft-ietf-radext-ip-port-radius-ext-00.txt
	Pages : 24
	Date : 2014-05-09

Abstract:
This document defines three new RADIUS attributes. For device that
implementing IP port ranges, these attributes are used to communicate
with a RADIUS server in order to configure and report TCP/UDP ports
and ICMP identifiers, as well as mapping behavior for specific hosts.
This mechanism can be used in various deployment scenarios such as
CGN, NAT64, Provider WiFi Gateway, etc.

This document does not make any assumption about the deployment
   context.

There's also a htmlized version available at:
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-radext-ip-port-radius-ext-00

Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of submission
until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.

-------- Alkuperäinen viesti / Orig.Msg. --------
Aihe: NomCom 2014-2015 Call for Volunteers
Päiväys: Fri, 16 May 2014 10:20:56 -0400
Lähettäjä: Michael Richardson <nomcom-chair-2014@ietf.org>
Vastausosoite: mcr+nomcom@sandelman.ca
Vastaanottaja: ietf@ietf.org

The IETF nominating committee (nomcom) process for 2014-15 has begun. The
IETF nomcom appoints folks to fill the open slots on the IAOC, the IAB,
and the IESG (including IETF Chair).

Ten voting members for the nomcom are selected in a verifiably random
way from a pool of volunteers. The more volunteers, the better chance we
have of
choosing a random yet representative cross section of the IETF population.

Let's break the 200 volunteer mark again this year!

The details of the operation of the nomcom can be found in RFC 3777,
and BCP10/RFC3797 details the selection algorithm.

Volunteers must have attended 3 of the past 5 IETF meetings. As
specified in
RFC 3777, that means three out of the five past meetings up to the time this
email announcement goes out to start the solicitation of volunteers.
The five meetings out of which you must have attended *three*
are IETF 85(Atlanta), \
          86(Orlando), \
          87(Berlin), *** ANY THREE!
          88(Vancouver), /
          89(London) /

If you qualify, please volunteer. However, much as we want this,
before you
decide to volunteer, please be sure you are willing to forgo appointment
to any of the positions for which this nomcom is responsible.

The list of people and posts whose terms end with the March 2015 IETF
meeting, and thus the positions for which this nomcom is responsible, are

IAOC:
To be confirmed

IAB:
Joel Halpern
Russ Housley
Eliot Lear
Xing Li
Andrew Sullivan
Dave Thaler

IESG:
Pete Resnick (Applications)
Ted Lemon (Internet)
Joel Jaeggli (Operations and Management)
Richard Barnes (RAI)
Adrian Farrel* (Routing)
Stephen Farrell (Security)
Spencer Dawkins (Transport)
Jari Arkko (Gen)

(names with * have publically indicated they will not serve another term)

The primary activity for this nomcom will begin in July 2014 and should be
completed in January 2015. The nomcom will have regularly scheduled
conference calls to ensure progress. (We might dogfood WebRTC)
There will be activities to collect requirements from the community, review
candidate questionnaires, review feedback from community members about
candidates, and talk to candidates.

Thus, being a nomcom member does require some time commitment; but it is
also
a very rewarding experience.

It is very important that you be able to attend IETF91 to conduct
interviews.
Being at IETF90 is useful for training. Being at IETF92 is not essential.

Please volunteer by sending me an email before 11:59 pm EDT (UTC -4 hours)
June 22, 2013, as follows:

To: nomcom-chair-2014@ietf.org
Subject: Nomcom 2014-15 Volunteer

Please include the following information in the email body:

  <Your Full Name>
     // First/Given Name followed by Last/Family Name
// matching how you enter it in the IETF Registration Form)

  <Current Primary Affiliation>
// Typically what goes in the Company field
// in the IETF Registration Form
[<All email addresses used to register for the past 5 IETF meetings>]
  <Preferred email address>
  <Telephone number>
     // For confirmation if selected

You should expect an email response from me within 3 business days stating
whether or not you are qualified. If you don't receive this response,
please re-send your email with the tag "RESEND"" added to the subject line.

If you are not yet sure if you would like to volunteer, please consider
that nomcom members play a very important role in shaping the leadership
of the IETF. Questions by email or voice are welcome.
Volunteering for the nomcom is a great way to contribute to the IETF!

You can find a detailed timeline on the nomcom web site at:
     https://datatracker.ietf.org/nomcom/2014/

I will be publishing a more detailed target timetable, as well as details
of the randomness seeds to be used for the RFC 3797 selection process,
within the next couple weeks.

Thank you!

Hello,

I just created a TRAC ticket with a comment on the current -06 version
which I found while writing the PROTO wire-up.

TRAC again did not send out a notification, so I wonder if it's on its
way into nirvana again. Could the authors please check if this link
yields a proper TRAC ticket?

For the record, the message I got from TRAC suggests that sending email
is currently broken:

Warning: The ticket has been created, but an error occurred while
sending notifications: {u'stefan.winter@restena.lu': (451, 'Temporary
local problem - please try later'),
u'draft-ietf-radext-radius-fragmentation@tools.ietf.org': (451,
'Temporary local problem - please try later'), u'radext@ietf.org': (451,
'Temporary local problem - please try later')}

Greetings,

Stefan Winter
