Hello,

see: http://tools.ietf.org/wg/radext/trac/ticket/179

"draft-ietf-radext-radius-fragmentation-06: IANA considerations

In the course of the PROTO write-up review, it occured to me that the
IANA Considerations section defines the new RADIUS type "Frag-Status"
(good!) but does not enumerate the values of that new type.

The new type's value definition can currently only be found inline in
the document (section 9.1: Reserved, Fragmentation-Supported,
More-Data-Pending, More-Data-Request).

This enumeration should be copied into the IANA Considerations section
so that IANA can easily create the corresponding table "Values for
RADIUS Attribute N, Frag-Status"."

Greetings,

Stefan Winter

Hello,

we still have plenty of time, but it's always good to start early. We
have requested a 90 minute slot for radext at IETF90. In the early draft
below, I have already pre-allocated time slots for work items on our
agenda and for individual draft submissions.

That early draft below (not yet in the datatracker) still has 25 minutes
of free space! So, if you want to discuss something or if you think we
should reserve more time for drafts than what I foresaw, please respond
to this mail.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the RADIUS EXTensions Working Group of the IETF.

Title : RADIUS Extensions for IP Port Configuration and Reporting
        Authors : Dean Cheng
                          Jouni Korhonen
                          Mohamed Boucadair
                          Senthil Sivakumar
	Filename : draft-ietf-radext-ip-port-radius-ext-01.txt
	Pages : 34
	Date : 2014-06-12

Abstract:
This document defines three new RADIUS attributes. For devices that
implementing IP port ranges, these attributes are used to communicate
with a RADIUS server in order to configure and report TCP/UDP ports
and ICMP identifiers, as well as mapping behavior for specific hosts.
This mechanism can be used in various deployment scenarios such as
CGN (Carrier Grade NAT), NAT64, Provider WLAN Gateway, etc.

This document does not make any assumption about the deployment
   context.

#173: draft-ietf-radext-nai-05: nits

Changes (by aland@deployingradius.com):

 * status:  new => closed
 * resolution:   => fixed

Comment:

Items 1-6 are fixed in the next rev, as are 2 refs for item 7.

The reference to RFC 5335 isn't fixed, because RFC 6532 doesn't define
ABNF for email addresses, while RFC 5335 does. The reference is
informative, so I think it's OK.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the RADIUS EXTensions Working Group of the IETF.

Title : The Network Access Identifier
        Author : Alan DeKok
	Filename : draft-ietf-radext-nai-06.txt
	Pages : 24
	Date : 2014-06-17

Abstract:
In order to provide inter-domain authentication services, it is
necessary to have a standardized method that domains can use to
identify each other's users. This document defines the syntax for
the Network Access Identifier (NAI), the user identity submitted by
the client prior to accessing network resources. This document is a
revised version of RFC 4282, which addresses issues with
international character sets, as well as a number of other
   corrections to the previous document.

The IETF datatracker status page for this draft is:
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-radext-nai/

There's also a htmlized version available at:
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-radext-nai-06

A diff from the previous version is available at:
http://www.ietf.org/rfcdiff?url2=draft-ietf-radext-nai-06

Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of submission
until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP at:

I do not have technical reasoning for my position here but.. Personally
I would not start renaming NAI. Quite a few documents refer to RFC4282
and implicitly to this document and it would be confusing to change the
name this late. IMHO what matters here is the functionality & technical
corrections the I-D provides. If we need to finetune Section 1.1.
terminology, let's do it.

Hi, Softwirers,

The authors have submitted a new version of map radius. As it related to th=
e radius, I also cc the radext WG for review.
Please review the latest version and give your comments. The below is the s=
ummary of modifications we have made:
1: Specify this draft is especially for the MAP-E mechanism, so delete the =
Encapsulation/Translation Flag Sub Option.
2: According to the updating MAP dhcp draft, add two new sub option: BR-ip=
v6-address sub option, EA-Len sub option=20
3: Several text refines

Many thanks and best regards

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts director=
ies.
This draft is a work item of the Softwires Working Group of the IETF.

Title : RADIUS Attribute for MAP
        Authors : Sheng Jiang
                          Yu Fu
                          Bing Liu
                          Peter Deacon
	Filename : draft-ietf-softwire-map-radius-02.txt
	Pages : 15
	Date : 2014-06-19

Abstract:
Mapping of Address and Port (MAP) is a stateless mechanism for
running IPv4 over IPv6-only infrastructure. It provides both IPv4
and IPv6 connectivity services simultaneously during the IPv4/IPv6
co-existing period. The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol for IPv6
(DHCPv6) MAP options has been defined to configure MAP Customer Edge
(CE). However, in many networks, the configuration information may
be stored in Authentication Authorization and Accounting (AAA)
servers while user configuration is mainly from Broadband Network
Gateway (BNG) through DHCPv6 protocol. This document defines a
Remote Authentication Dial In User Service (RADIUS) attribute that
carries MAP configuration information from AAA server to BNG. The
MAP RADIUS attribute are designed following the simplify principle.
It provides just enough information to form the correspondent DHCPv6
   MAP option.

#182: transport review questions

 - the document should more clearly distinguish between the limiting sizes
of messages at different layers in the stack

Although RADIUS uses the term "packet" even for RADIUS-level
data (RFC 2965), I'll use the following terms:
message - a RADIUS unit of data
         packet - a UDP unit
         datagram - an IP unit

i.e., a single RADIUS message (up to 4096 bytes) is always
sent in a single UDP packet, which may be sent over one or more
IP datagrams. Thus RADIUS already relies (heavily, IMO) on
     IP-level fragmentation and reassembly.

     E.g., RADIUS specifies a max length of 4096 octets;
the field supports the same length as a max IP
datagram (65535). The largest IPv4 datagram that is guaranteed
to be reassembled is 576 bytes. So RADIUS is already
potentially sending UDP packets that can't be reassembled
by IPv4. There's nothing I see in RADIUS that reacts to
path MTU or even interface MTU.

 - the need to send "large amounts" of data should be better discussed

Even the 100K data limit can generate an excessive
burst if the network is congested. See RFC 5405.

However, given the stop-and-go (windowsize =1) protocol
of exchanging fragments one at a time, this probably isn't
an issue - but it should be explained as such.

 - PMTUD is a red-herring unless RADIUS sets the DF bit

That would be a bad idea, IMO, because RADIUS already
allows message sizes in excess of the largest safely
assumed MTU. There's no good reason to set DF=1
for RADIUS packets - they're not sent at a high enough
data rate to have problems with IPv4 ID uniqueness
     (see RFC 6864).

However, RADIUS doesn't appear to set the DF bit,
nor is that discussed in this doc, so this is a
     red herring.

 - nothing in RADIUS appears to avoid IP fragmentation per se

So I don't see why that's being added here.

#182: transport review questions

Comment (by aland@deployingradius.com):

Multiple implementations force the DF bit to be zero. When DF=1,
implementations sending large packets get ICMP errors instead of data
 transport. This is bad.

#177: text in section 11.2 up-to-date?

Comment (by alex@um.es):

You are right. For some reason I forgot adding this improved text Alan
provided. So yes, that would be the most updated version, and I'll include
it into the upcoming -07 release.

#178: fragments going in both directions - allowed or not?

Comment (by alex@um.es):

Indeed, pre-authorization phase is intended only to allow the NAS sending
a large packet to the AS.We don't want the AS to send authorization
information until authentication has been completed (post-authorization).
Besides, the fragmentation process should be seen as an atomic process, in
the sense that when one of the peers is sending fragmented data, the other
stop any kind of processing until the sender has completed the delivery.
As you say, it is a half-duplex process.

I agree a clarification paragraph is required in the introductory text of
section 4. In particular, it would be placed as the second paragraph of
that section. Also, a minor change on the third paragraph would be
required. The final text would be as follows:

[...]. The chunks are tied together via the State attribute.

The delivery of a large fragmented RADIUS packet with authorization
data can happen before or after the end user has been authenticated by the
AS. We can distinguish two phases:
     1. Pre-authorization. In this phase, the NAS can send a large packet
with authorization information to the AS before the end user is
 authenticated.
     2. Post-authorization. In this phase, the AS can send a large packet
with authorization data to the NAS after the end user has been
 authenticated.

The following subsections describe how to perform fragmentation for
packets for these two phases, pre-authorization and post-authorization.
     [...]

#179: draft-ietf-radext-radius-fragmentation-06: IANA considerations

Comment (by alex@um.es):

That's right. Besides, there was an errata, as the text said "RADIUS
messages" where it should have stated "RADIUS attributes" instead. This
new text for the IANA consderations section is based on RFC 5226
 suggestions:

The authors request that Attribute Types and Attribute Values defined
in this document be registered by the Internet Assigned Numbers
Authority (IANA) from the RADIUS namespaces as described in the "IANA
Considerations" section of [RFC3575], in accordance with BCP 26
[RFC5226]. For RADIUS packets, attributes and registries created by
this document IANA is requested to place them at
    http://www.iana.org/assignments/radius-types.

In particular, this document defines two new RADIUS attributes,
    entitled "Frag-Status" and "Proxy-State-Len" (see section 9),
assigned values of TBD1 and TBD2 from the Long Extended Space of
    [RFC2865]:

        Tag Name Length Meaning
        ---- ---- ------ -------
        TBD1 Frag-Status 7 Signals fragmentation
TBD2 Proxy-State-Len 7 Indicates the length of the
                                       received Proxy-State attributes

The Frag-Status attribute also defines a 8-bit "Code" field, for
which the IANA is to create and maintain a new sub-registry entitled
"Code values" under the RADIUS "Frag-Status" attribute. Initial
    values for the RADIUS Frag-Status "Code" registry are given below;
future assignments are to be made through "RFC required" [IANA-
CONSIDERATIONS]. Assignments consist of a Frag-Status "Code" name
    and its associated value.

           Value Frag-Status Code Name Definition
           ---- ------------------------ ----------
           0 Reserved See Section 9.1
           1 Fragmentation-Supported See Section 9.1
           2 More-Data-Pending See Section 9.1
           3 More-Data-Request See Section 9.1
           4-255 Unassigned

Additionally, allocation of a new Service-Type value for "Additional-
    Authorization" is requested.

           Value Service Type Value Definition
           ---- ------------------------ ----------
           TBA Additional-Authorization See section 4.1
