So you might be able to cross-correlate *if* that data is = actually being kept. The form says "for statistical purposes, not = retained", so it shouldn't. That said: I realize that this way to cite an erratum is the one accepted by the RSE - other than that, it's brain dead, in that: a) it provides minimal help to actually get to the erratum (requires following a link, opening a form, entering values), and b) is semantically incorrect, as the erratum of an RFC is not the same thing as the RFC (but that's what the seriesInfo information is claiming). I agree with Julian on all counts here. A reader of this document who is not familiar with the IETF (and there will be *plenty* of those for this RFC) will not understand at all what is going on. Hi, It rather depends on when the document in question is approved for publication and exactly what folks want changed. If we're just talking about adding a direct pointer, that's possible. It looks like it is in Last Call now, so it will be something of a race between it entering our queue and our work to create those pretty, permanent URLs to errata. If we have the links ready by the time this draft is in the RFC Editor queue, then yes, we can and will update the draft before publication with those links. Can we generalize this to: "it appears before any unnumbered appendix, such as..."? Otherwise we'll need to come up with new markup to define where to place the index (in which case you should raise an issue at ). I'll guess that's a formatting error caused by xml2rfc not processing the in the source as intended. The reason for this is very clear: If one wants to find something in the document, one goes to the index. But that means one has to find the index first. So the index has to be at a place where it's easy to find, and the end of the document assures that. That in no way applies to any of the appendices. Now it has arisen again in draft-ietf-mmusic-dtls-sdp-22. (See section 9.) (I'm not the author - I was Gen-Art reviewer.) This draft updates some RFCs, and to do so it includes OLD text copied from the document being updated, and NEW text formatted as a replacement. The problem is that the OLD and NEW text includes multiple sections, with section numbering from the referenced document. This text *looks* just like sections in *this* document, except that the numbering and indentation are copied from the referenced document. So it results in what appears to be incorrectly numbered and indented sections in the document. This is very confusing to read. Is there a recommended way to deal with this - one that works with txt formatted documents? I thought about indenting. But this requires reflowing the content to work with txt format, and that is a problem for OLD content taken from an RFC. I have currently suggested putting a marker character in the margin of every such embedded line. But I'm not loving that either.
