RFC 7841 requires this sort of text in the boilerplate:

For IETF stream documents, a similar reference is added: "Further
information on (BCPs or Internet Standards) is available in Section 2
   of RFC 7841 <https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7841#section-2>." for
BCP and Standard Track documents; "Not all
documents approved by the IESG are a candidate for any level of
Internet Standards; see Section 2 of RFC 7841
<https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7841#section-2>." for all other
   categories.

The precise boilerplate differs but they all require something.

Should I add this as a normative or an informative reference? I think it

should be normative but the text does not make this clear.

In my document prep system, it has to be entered as one or the other in the

catalog to create the link.

If people would like the IAB boilerplate to be done correctly, it would be
nice if there was a preset link to the current list of members somewhere so
that I can put that in the tool.

Otherwise, I think you would want to modify the xml2rfc schema to include
the info.

XInclude to a document containing a list of <contributor> elements would
work.

Or we could use <author> and define contributor as a role. That would
require least change to the schema.

BTW, I have the schema converted to XSD if anyone needs it.=E2=80=8B

I would like the xml2rfc schema to separate the declaration of the document
name and version number for drafts.

The reason I have always made this division in my tools is that I can't be
bothered to track version numbers. Updating them is a chore, I always have
to check to see whether I did it. That is something that must be done by a
machine, not the user.

So today's hack is going to be implementing that for Markdown and Word
input streams. I realized I already have most of the code.

This would require some change to SeriesInfo.

This should be discussed on xml2rfc or xml2rfc-dev.

Hi Phil,

The RFCs noted in boilerplate don't go in the references at all, unless
they are also listed in the main body of the document.

I have no problem with status quo. Think of the entire name as a
version identifier. That you need a new name each time you submit is
a feature. (I have tooling that manages a default value for the new
name, it's not that difficult.)

guidance and prepares it for future inclusion in the RFC Style Guide.
This document obsoletes RFC 7322, "RFC Style Guide".

until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.

Hi,

rfc-index.xml traditionally has only included first name initials. Since =
the datatracker has had full author names for a while now, would it be =
possible to include those in rfc-index.xml? Gives more complete =
information for tools that operate on rfc-index.xml.

Lars

FWIW, it should contain sufficient information to produce citations -
this includes separating last names from initials as well.

Best regards, Julian

PS: feels like 10 years ago that I started asking for this...
