A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the RTP Media Congestion Avoidance Techniques WG of the IETF.

	Date : 2017-12-04

Abstract:
This document describes NADA (network-assisted dynamic adaptation), a
novel congestion control scheme for interactive real-time media
applications, such as video conferencing. In the proposed scheme,
the sender regulates its sending rate based on either implicit or
explicit congestion signaling, in a unified approach. The scheme can
benefit from explicit congestion notification (ECN) markings from
network nodes. It also maintains consistent sender behavior in the
absence of such markings, by reacting to queuing delays and packet
   losses instead.

Hi,

As a follow up to IETF-100, we've submitted an updated version of the draft=
to address all previous set of comments. Note that there is no algorithm =
change from -05 to -06.

A brief summary of the edits:

* Editorial changes to address previous review comments from the WG mailing=
 list, from Ingemar, MichaelW, Roland, and others;
* Figure 3 (List of algorithm parameters): aligned with our open-source ref=
erence code;
* Implementation Status section: added a pointer to our open-source release=
 of ns3-rmcat
* References: Revised the list of Normative vs. Informative references to r=
eflect dependency on other RFC drafts;
* Updated both author contact info and Acknowledgement section

With that, the draft is ready for a second round of WGLC.

Thanks,
Xiaoqing

This email announces a second RMCAT Working Group Last Call (WGLC) on:

NADA: A Unified Congestion Control Scheme for Real-Time Media
    https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-rmcat-nada-06

The purpose of this second WGLC is to give the WG a chance to review the
update to the NADA algorithm that was performed as a result of the
comments raise during the first WGLC. This second WGLC will run for 2
weeks, ending at midnight US Eastern Time on Thursday, December 21.
Comments should be sent to the rmcat@ietf.org list.

As previously announced on the list, the authors have made a complete
set of NS3 evaluation results for the revised algorithm available via
the following Dropbox link:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/sgrcilpv0ez2vwf/2017-11-20-ietf-rmcat-nada-eval.pdf?dl=0.
Please note that the 05 version of the draft contains the algorithm
updates. The latest 06 version contains further text refinements, but no
algorithm changes.

Thanks to all who provided feedback during the first WGLC. Ingemar,
Julius, Roland, could you please confirm to the list or to the chairs if
the latest version addresses your comments.

Thanks,
Anna

Hello all,

Sorry for the spam for those in both lists...

Is there any remote chance that anybody in this group is working with
some common traffic traces from a real capture to compare algorithms?
I remember seeing this in RMCAT few months (if not years...) ago, but
my search now ended in /dev/null.

Any pointers to find something like that?
I am trying to replace some components such as synthetic traffic
traces for a (controlled) measurement setup, and this would be of
great help.

Thanks,
Simone

Hello Simone,

You can try the following open source repo:

https://github.com/cisco/syncodecs

This is a reference implementation of
draft-ietf-rmcat-video-traffic-model. Besides, it contains a set of
traces we obtained with Mozilla's h264 earlier this year.

Let me know if you have any question.

Thanks,

Sergio

Hi Anna and all,

I briefly reviewed the changes and they seem to address my comments.
The only change that probably needs editorial improvement is this:

loss_int | Measured average loss interval in packet count

I suggest to rewrite as:

loss_int | Measured average loss interval in number of packets

Regards,
 Roland

This memo describes a rate adaptation algorithm for conversational
media services such as interactive video. The solution conforms to
the packet conservation principle and uses a hybrid loss-and-delay-
based congestion control algorithm. The algorithm is evaluated over
both simulated Internet bottleneck scenarios as well as in a Long
Term Evolution (LTE) system simulator and is shown to achieve both
low latency and high video throughput in these scenarios.

This document is a product of the RTP Media Congestion Avoidance Techniques Working Group of the IETF.

EXPERIMENTAL: This memo defines an Experimental Protocol for the
Internet community. It does not specify an Internet standard of any
kind. Discussion and suggestions for improvement are requested.
Distribution of this memo is unlimited.

This announcement is sent to the IETF-Announce and rfc-dist lists.
