I have lost track of whether this was ever answered.

I don't get the distinction between "policy" and "ospf-determined
path". It's all routing, from RSVP's viewpoint. What RFC2205 DOES
dictate is that Path messages must follow the same route as the
data, however that is determined.

So yes, you are correct.

RSVP handles only the low-level application-independent signaling
necessary to plant state in the routers. In complex applications
like H.323, I would expect there would be an application-specific
(the app being H.323 in this case) signaling protocol at work.
This app-specific protocol would operate between the ends of
the session, without appearing at the intermediate routers.
RSVP has the task of spreading the final QoS state across
the data path.

Go Call Inc. Announces Arrangement for Private Funding of Reactivation Costs for the
Companies Gaming Sites

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 2000--Go Call Inc. (Pink Sheets:GOCA)
has announced the arrangement of private funding to enable reactivation of it's key
business functions. This funding will allow the company to purchase the remaining
technology needed to complete the restructuring started last June.

James Palmer, CEO of Go Call Inc (www.gocash.com) said, ``The restructuring done to
get the business ready for the Business Plan requirements going into 2001 was lengthy
and very involved. We have had a lot of challenges to overcome in getting everything
up to the level required to meet our plan. The Company has entered into new contracts,
bought new software, changed procedures, changed suppliers, reprogrammed, bought new
equipment, and built new graphics interfaces. This restructuring was not only involved
but also, with most sites having to be taken down, our income was lower making it a
challenge to get it all completed with the available financing. This funding is going
to enable us to finish the remaining tasks in October and have all the sites
activated, advertising in place, and business systems ready to close out the year with
a solid preview of 2001.''

Go Call Inc. is a publicly held company trading on the ``Pink Sheets'' under the
symbol ``GOCA''. For more information about the company, please visit the web site at

Not really.

The lengh of an RSVP message is a function of the number and type of
objects that it contains.

Many object classes (like integrity and policy data) are optional.
Others (like session) have multiple C-Types - any one of which may be
used in a given message. Some objects (like session attributes) are of
variable size. Some objects (like flowspecs) may appear multiple times
in some messages.

Lower limit sizes can be calculated based on the list of mandatory
objects and the minimum sizes of these objects. You can also calculate
typical sizes based on what kinds of objects you are likely to send and
receive. Upper limits can't really be determined.

The length of an RSVP message is determined by the contents of the
particular message. Do you mean, is there a maximum length?
The size of an RSVP message is limited to the largest IP datagram
that can be sent, approximately 65KB.

I wanted to know the following :

Can the client application of RSVP run on one machine and the RSVP desmon
run on another machine to which this client talks??

Or is that on any machine which runs some application requiring RSVP, then
we have to run the RSVP deamon on it???

Thanx in advance

Pras

The protocol does not care. The normal expectation is that the
client application will be on the same machine as RSVP (e.g.,
because you need to set up QoS in the end system as well as routers),
but the protocol does not require this.

Well one doubt rose in my mind when i as going thru the code of RSVP.

Well the latency values etc are calculted by the demon based on the
information it reads from the TC components in the kernel during RSVP
initialisation.
But no where do i find any mention of the propogation delay being
taken into account for Guranteed service. That is if the link connecting
two routers is quite long then there will be some Propogation delay which
needs to be considered while making caculations for Guranteed Service as
the guranteed service has to gurantee an end to end delay bound.

Please let me know as to how this issue is handled in the implementation
or whether RSVP does not care about the Propogation delay???

Thanx in advance

Yours sincerely

Pras

Please see the RFC on Guaranteed Service. This is not an RSVP question,
it is an int-serv question. You could pose it on the int-serv@isi.edu

Respected Sir,

Thanks a lot for replying. But i want to make some things clear to me.

Please tell me , if i use the existing code provided by the site ISI. and
enhance it and then use it in my commercial Product which i want to
sell then will there be any Problem or is there any condition for doing
that?? And having done that, what is the status of the enhanced code?

Please let me know

Thanking You

Yours sincerely

Prasanna

Hello, everyone,

I have a question about RSVP.
For a multicast session, a user joins the multicast group after the =
multicast
session has been initialized.
I think that the user can only receive the path message at the latest
refresh time. That is to say that the user may have to wait for a RSVP =
refresh time to receive the path message. Am I right?

Thanks a lot.

Xiaoyun

No, not in general. If the join is on a local broadcast LAN, then
the node should already have path state. Otherwise, the join is
a routing change that should trigger a "local repair", i.e.,
trigger the nearest node to send an immediate Path refresh.

I am looking for a language by which policy can be entered

There was one "policy Framework definition language" IETF Draft, Nov 1998,
but is dormant now

Are there any standard languages,
Given a language I would write a compiler which would build the policy
database, which would be searched as and when required.

I have the follwoing doubt about RSVP & RSVP-TE .

On the edge router of an MPLS domain , the signalling mechanism should
be able to identify and proceess both RSVP messages aswell as RSVP-TE
messages . How to handle this.

Does RSVP-TE handle RSVP messages ?

Or should there be a rsvp desmon running on the edge router as well as
rsvp-te deamon running.

Also i wanted to know one thing.

RSVP protocol is identified by protocol no 46 . How will be RSVP-TE
protocol identified by IP layer.

Please let me know.

Thanx in advance

Pras

hi
In section 3.1.3 following paragraph is given.
" Each RSVP-capable node along the path(s) captures a Path
message and processes it to create path state for the sender
defined by the SENDER_TEMPLATE and SESSION objects. Any
POLICY_DATA, SENDER_TSPEC, and ADSPEC objects are also saved in
the path state. If an error is encountered while processing a
Path message, a PathErr message is sent to the originating
         sender of the Path message."

how is it possible for the intermediate nodes to send path messages
periodically??.. i am totally confused by this statement.

Thanking you in advance,

hi,
In section 3.1.3 following paragraph is given.
"Periodically, the RSVP process at a node scans the path state
to create new Path messages to forward towards the receiver(s).
Each message contains a sender descriptor defining one sender,
and carries the original sender's IP address as its IP source
address. Path messages eventually reach the applications on
all receivers; however, they are not looped back to a receiver
running in the same application process as the sender."

how is it possible for the intermediate nodes to send path messagesperiodically??..
i am totally confused by this statement.

Thanking you in advance,

I think you were thinking how it'd be possible for intermediate nodes to
*create* path msgs...

End hosts send path msgs, which create path state at intermediate
nodes. end hosts also send periodic refresh msgs to keep those states.
instead of forwarding all path refresh msgs immediately, intermediate nodes
create and send those refreshes periodically.

hope this helps.

Your question is confusing, since it seems to bear no obvious relation
to the qouted paragraph. Therefore, I don't know what question I
should be answering, but the direct answer to your question as posed
would be: it it not only possible, it is fundamental. Once path state
is installed in a particular node, the node forwards it, and thereafter
the node periodically resends the same path state as refresh messages.
Installation of state happens end-to-end, but refreshing is a hop/hop
activity.
