The IESG has received a request from the BGP Enabled ServiceS WG (bess) to
consider the following document: - 'Gateway Auto-Discovery and Route
Advertisement for Segment Routing
   Enabled Domain Interconnection'
  <draft-ietf-bess-datacenter-gateway-08.txt> as Proposed Standard

The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits final
comments on this action. Please send substantive comments to the
last-call@ietf.org mailing lists by 2020-12-23. Exceptionally, comments may
be sent to iesg@ietf.org instead. In either case, please retain the beginning
of the Subject line to allow automated sorting.

Abstract

Data centers are critical components of the infrastructure used by
network operators to provide services to their customers. Data
centers are attached to the Internet or a backbone network by gateway
routers. One data center typically has more than one gateway for
commercial, load balancing, and resiliency reasons.

Segment Routing is a protocol mechanism that can be used within a
data center, and also for steering traffic that flows between two
data center sites. In order that one data center site may load
balance the traffic it sends to another data center site, it needs to
know the complete set of gateway routers at the remote data center,
the points of connection from those gateways to the backbone network,
and the connectivity across the backbone network.

Segment Routing may also be operated in other domains, such as access
networks. Those domains also need to be connected across backbone
   networks through gateways.

This document defines a mechanism using the BGP Tunnel Encapsulation
attribute to allow each gateway router to advertise the routes to the
prefixes in the Segment Routing domains to which it provides access,
and also to advertise on behalf of each other gateway to the same
   Segment Routing domain.

The IESG has received a request from the BGP Enabled ServiceS WG (bess) to
consider the following document: - 'Gateway Auto-Discovery and Route
Advertisement for Segment Routing
   Enabled Domain Interconnection'
   as Proposed Standard

The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits final
comments on this action. Please send substantive comments to the

The IESG has approved the following document:
- 'Handling Large Certificates and Long Certificate Chains in TLS-based
   EAP Methods'
  (draft-ietf-emu-eaptlscert-05.txt) as Informational RFC

This document is the product of the EAP Method Update Working Group.

The IESG contact persons are Benjamin Kaduk and Roman Danyliw.

A URL of this Internet Draft is:

Technical Summary

The Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP), defined in RFC3748,
provides a standard mechanism for support of multiple authentication
methods. EAP-Transport Layer Security (EAP-TLS) and other TLS-based
EAP methods are widely deployed and used for network access
authentication. Large certificates and long certificate chains
combined with authenticators that drop an EAP session after only 40 -
50 round-trips is a major deployment problem. This document looks at
the this problem in detail and describes the potential solutions
   available.

Working Group Summary

There was good support in the working group for this document. There we
several substantive reviews of the document.

Document Quality

This document has be reviewed by members of the EAP and the TLS community. Some of the mechanisms in the document are being implemented.

Personnel

Joseph Salowey is the document shepherd
Roman Danyliw is the responsible AD

The IESG has approved changing the status of the following document:
- DES and IDEA Cipher Suites for Transport Layer Security (TLS)
  (rfc5469) to Historic

This document action is documented at:
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/status-change-tls-des-idea-ciphers-to-historic/

A URL of the affected document is:
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc5469/

Status Change Details:

The DES and IDEA cipher suites specified in [RFC5469] were
specifically removed from TLSv1.2 by [RFC5246]; those old
versions of (D)TLS are being moved to Historic by
status-change-tls-oldversions-to-historic. With no current
versions of (D)TLS left with which these cipher suites can be used,
they are historical artifacts, and the corresponding specification
should be moved to the Historic state.

Upon approval and its publication as an RFC,
draft-ietf-tls-oldversions-deprecate should replace this status change
document as the reference for the status change event.

Personnel

Benjamin Kaduk is the responsible Area Director.
