2016 IEEE Conference on Network Functions Virtualization & Software Defined
Networks (IEEE NFV-SDN)
Palo Alto, California, USA
November 7-9, 2016

More information is available at: http://www.ieee-nfvsdn.org

CALL FOR PAPERS

Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networks (SDN)
enable rapid network and service innovation for all participants in the
ecosystem. Decoupling network functions from the underlying physical
infrastructure using virtualization technologies enables service
innovation. SDN allows programmability of the NFV infrastructure to support
the deployment of new network functions in a variety of environments
including campus and enterprise networks, data centers, Internet service
providers (ISPs), cloud providers, and over-the-top (OTT) application and
service providers. NFV enables network capacity and functionality to be
decoupled, allowing network functions to be dynamically deployed whenever
they are required and wherever they can be hosted. The dramatic industry
transformation implied by NFV and SDN will not only impact network
computing platforms and network architecture, but will also open up new
avenues of research. Further, it enables the deployment of new network
functions that enable smart cities/homes/cars/businesses, green
infrastructures, new types of user interfaces and cyber physical system
realizations. The 2016 IEEE NFV-SDN conference focuses in addition to the
latest NFV concepts and mechanisms on first operational results on studies
related to virtualized networks functions (VNFs) as well as new
applications of VNFs, which smartens networks and their usage.

DEMOS, TUTORIALS AND WORKSHOPS

Call for Demos: The IEEE NFV-SDN conference also invites demonstration
papers in the NFV and SDN realms addressing (but not limited to) the topics
above. The demonstrations should be configured to run in a cloud
environment accessible via Internet and presented from the exhibition space
floor on the demonstrator=E2=80=99s laptop. Also, an author of an accepted =
demo is
required to register for the conference at the full or limited rate and
present the demo at the IEEE NFV-SDN 2016 conference. For information on
submission, please visit http://www.ieee-nfvsdn.org/authors/call-for-demos/
Call for Tutorials: The organizing committee invites proposals for
tutorials to be held prior to the main conference. Tutorials should serve
one or more of the following objectives: introducing students and newcomers
to major topics of NFV and SDN research; providing instructions on
established practices and methodologies; surveying a mature area of NFV and
SDN research and/or practice; motivating and explaining an NFV and SDN
topic of emerging importance; introducing expert non-specialists to an NFV
and SDN research area. Proposals should be submitted by electronic mail to
the Tutorial Program Co-Chairs. For information on submission, please visit
http://www.ieee-nfvsdn.org/authors/call-for-tutorials/

Call for Workshop Proposals: The committee solicits proposals for one

SLALOM project aims at delivering legal model terms and technical model
specifications for cloud SLAs so as to facilitate the adoption of cloud
computing technology. To this end, it attempts to reach consensus among all
involved stakeholders (cloud providers, cloud adopters, legal
representatives, regulation and research representatives). SLALOM's approach
is to set out from both the provider and adopter perspective for each
clause, with a suggested SLALOM form of wording. Our vision is to deliver
simple, fair and transparent SLA terms that can be adopted (partially or in
total) by the stakeholders of cloud computing technology.

Following my previous emails with respect to the SLALOM project, and being
at the final phase of the project, we would like to ask for your feedback on
the SLALOM model.

You may provide your feedback using the link
https://1drv.ms/f/s!Ar6kp05WiUTVieBQ12zEZF6IxS5k1g.

Feel free to forward this email to your colleagues or any partners you think
he may be interested.

Thank you in advance for your feedback,

On behalf of the SLALOM consortium,

Aimilia Bantouna

Managing Virtualized and Programmable Networks
IETF96 - Berlin
Friday, July 22, 2016
Morning Session I (10am to 12:00noon)

Recognizing the opportunities for cross-fertilization and discussion of ide=
as between the Research Groups, the NFV, SDN and Network Management RGs are=
organizing a joint meeting in the week of IETF96 in Berlin.

The goal of the meeting is to investigate the problems, challenges, and gap=
s in the management and operations of programmable and virtualized networks=
in order to help develop a more comprehensive and insightful view of futur=
e networks.
In particular, we are interested in contributions which relates novel resea=
rch ideas, achievements and experiences on:

-Techniques and tools for the management and operation of NFV and SDN =
networks,
-How virtualization and programmability impact network management and =
operations.

The meeting will be organized around a small set of presentations and will =
keep time to foster an exchange of ideas and a lively debate.

Contributions are expected by Friday 1st July 2016, in the form of a short =
abstract. You can send these to Kohei and myself and we will liaise with th=
e other RG chairs.

On behalf of the organizers,
Kohei Shiomoto and Dan King, SDN RG co-chairs,
Diego Lopez and Ramki Krishnan, NFV RG co-chairs,
Lisandro Granville and Laurent Ciavaglia, NM RG co-chairs.

Call for Book Chapters

Book Title

Big-Data and Software Defined Networks

Book Editors

Associate Professor Javid Taheri, Karlstad University, Sweden

Book Series and Publisher

The book is one of the 12 to be written/edited for "IET Book Series on Big
Data" (Editor in Chief Prof. Albert Y. Zomaya).

Theme

The increase of processing power is undoubtedly among the most prominent
technological achievements of the 21st century. Being able to process data
on higher rates has opened many doors for both the scientific and industrial
communities to explore new areas. Big-Data and SDN (Software Defined
Networks) are among the methods and technologies that have directly
contributed to such extraordinary achievements.

Big-Data and SDN started for different reasons, and consequently advanced
science and industry from different angles. Their collision is however
imminent since both face ever growing Cloud Data Centres (CDCs). Big-Data
Analytics has entered CDCs to harvest their massive computing powers and
deduct information that was never reachable by conventional methods. SDN
entered this field to help CDCs run their services more efficiently.

This book aims to investigate areas where Big-Data and SDN could help each
other in delivering more efficient services. SDN can help Big-Data
applications to overcome one of their major challenges: message passing
among cooperative nodes. Through proper bandwidth allocation and
prioritization, critical surges of Big-Data flows can be better handled to
effectively reduce their impacts on CDCs. Big-Data could also help SDN
controller to better analyse its collected network information and make more
efficient decisions about the allocation of resources to different network
flows.

This book is sectioned into three parts:

*	The first part (Introduction) serves as an introductory section,
providing crucial information about Big-Data and SDN as well as their
current state-of-the-art advancements and architectures. It also highlights
general open issues in these vibrant fields.
*	The second part (How SDN Helps Big-Data) is focused on several ways
that SDN helps Big-Data applications run more efficiently. This section is
further split into several chapters, each focusing on how SDN helps a
specific "V" in the Big-Data terminology.
*	The third section (How Big-Data Helps SDN) is focused on several
Big-Data Analytics that help SDN make better resource allocation decisions.
Chapters in this section reveal current approaches in which large amount of
collected network data are process to run smoother networks in large CDCs.
