Note especially in the following message that if you wish to submit
a working group draft (draft-ietf-sidr-...), you need to give the wg
chairs advance notice (BEFORE Feb 19!) of the filename so the chairs
can give approval to the secretariat.

If you want to submit as a personal submission (draft-ietf-me-...),
you have until Feb 26.

It would be a good idea to bring ideas to the wg chairs, even if they
will be a personal submission, so the wg chairs can put them on the
agenda.

Subject: Internet-Drafts Submission Cutoff Dates for the 68th IETF
 Meeting in Prague, Czech Republic

There are two (2) Internet-Draft cutoff dates for the 68th
IETF Meeting in Prague, Czech Republic:

February 26th: Cutoff Date for Initial (i.e., version -00)
Internet-Draft Submissions

All initial Internet-Drafts (version -00) must be submitted by Monday,
February 26th at 9:00 AM ET. As always, all initial submissions with a
filename beginning with "draft-ietf" must be approved by the
appropriate WG Chair before they can be processed or announced. The
Secretariat would appreciate receiving WG Chair approval by Monday,
February 19th at 9:00 AM ET.

March 5th: Cutoff Date for Revised (i.e., version -01 and higher)
Internet-Draft Submissions

All revised Internet-Drafts (version -01 and higher) must be submitted
by Monday, March 5th at 9:00 AM ET.

Initial and revised Internet-Drafts received after their respective
cutoff dates will not be made available in the Internet-Drafts
directory or announced until on or after Monday, March 19th at 9:00
AM ET, when Internet-Draft posting resumes. Please do not wait until
the last minute to submit.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any
questions or concerns, then please send a message to
internet-drafts@ietf.org.

The IETF Secretariat

FYI: The Internet-Draft cutoff dates as well as other significant dates

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories.
This draft is a work item of the Secure Inter-Domain Routing Working Group of the IETF.

Title : A Profile for X.509 PKIX Resource Certificates
	Author(s)	: G. Huston, et al.
	Filename	: draft-ietf-sidr-res-certs-03.txt
	Pages : 29
	Date : 2007-2-13

This document defines a standard profile for X.509 certificates for
the purposes of supporting validation of assertions of "right-to-use"
of an Internet Number Resource (IP Addresses and Autonomous System
Numbers). This profile is used to convey the issuer's authorization
of the subject to be regarded as the current holder of a "right-of-
use" of the IP addresses and AS numbers that are described in the
   associated Resource Certificate.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-sidr-res-certs-03.txt

To remove yourself from the I-D Announcement list, send a message to
i-d-announce-request@ietf.org with the word unsubscribe in the body of
the message.
You can also visit https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/I-D-announce
to change your subscription settings.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the
username "anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After
logging in, type "cd internet-drafts" and then
"get draft-ietf-sidr-res-certs-03.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-sidr-res-certs-03.txt".

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.

It's about time to ask for topics for the agenda.

The deadline for the wg chairs to submit an agenda is March 7 for drafts
and March 12 for revisions. So if you wish to speak, it would be great
to send a request in to both wg chairs (for fault tolerance) soon.

If you look at the minutes of the November meeting:

http://www3.ietf.org/proceedings/06nov/minutes/sidr.html

you will see that there was a discussion in the later part of the meeting
about the ROA. The discussion started out to be whether the resource
certificate prefix should exactly match the prefix in the ROA. It segued
to a discussion of whether the ROA "allows more specifics or not" (ed: in
route advertisements).

There were speakers on either side (exact match vs more specifics) and
no consensus was reached. This was to be taken to the list.

Those who were speaking at the mike are hearby urged to speak more
about the topic on the list.

An example to highlight the issue: if you hold a delegation of a /18,
and you anticipate the possibility of advertising longer prefixes,
can you create the ROA for the /18 and it will authorize any advertisement
of a longer prefix, or must you create a new ROA for each longer prefix you
decide to advertise?

Would it be possible to make more specifics an option in the ROA?
It might also be nice to be able specify a maximum prefix length.

I'm in favor of an exact match requirement when talking about ROAs
and route advertisements. This helps ensure that matching the ROA
against a prefix is intentional, not an accident. An address space
holder can always generate additional ROAs with exactly the right
prefixes to match the intent of the authorization.

I'm against this exact match requirement - I think its a case of
semantic overload in mixing basic authorities (permission to
originate) with routing policy (explicit nomination of what prefixes to route).

However if we have a "don't care" bit in the ROA to allow a prefix
controller to allow the AS to originate the route any way they want
then I'd be happy.

	Filename	: draft-ietf-sidr-res-certs-05.txt
	Pages : 30
	Date : 2007-2-26

This document defines a standard profile for X.509 certificates for
the purposes of supporting validation of assertions of "right-to-use"
of an Internet Number Resource (IP Addresses and Autonomous System
Numbers). This profile is used to convey the issuer's authorization
of the subject to be regarded as the current holder of a "right-of-
use" of the IP addresses and AS numbers that are described in the
   associated Resource Certificate.

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-sidr-res-certs-05.txt

To remove yourself from the I-D Announcement list, send a message to
i-d-announce-request@ietf.org with the word unsubscribe in the body of
the message.
You can also visit https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/I-D-announce
to change your subscription settings.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login with the
username "anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After
logging in, type "cd internet-drafts" and then
"get draft-ietf-sidr-res-certs-05.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/shadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv@ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-sidr-res-certs-05.txt".

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories.
This draft is a work item of the Secure Inter-Domain Routing Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Certificate Policy (CP) for the Internet IP Address and AS Number (PKI)
	Author(s)	: K. Seo, et al.
	Filename	: draft-ietf-sidr-cp-01.txt
	Pages : 47
	Date : 2007-2-27

This document describes the certificate policy for a PKI used to
support improved routing security. Each organization that allocates
IP addresses or Autonomous System (AS) numbers to an organization
will, in parallel, issue a certificate reflecting this allocation.
These certificates will enable verification that the holder of the
associated private key has been allocated the resources indicated in
the certificate, and is the current, unique holder of these
resources. The PKI in which the certificates issued under this
policy are employed, in conjunction with ancillary digitally signed
data structures, will provide critical inputs for routing security
mechanisms, e.g., generation of route filters by ISPs.

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:

	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-sidr-cp-01.txt".

Agreed....

I could see someone wanting to say: "nothing longer than /x will be
advertised in this space," but I don't see any reason to make this an
exact match only.

Seems like an argument for the following expressiveness:

  prefix/len1[-len2]

Geoff would have to use prefix/len1-24 (or 28?, or ??) for most
prefixes, assuming that most prefixes would want some limit. If not,
using prefix/len1-32 notation could be used to do what Jeff wants. Or
some tool could display this as prefix/len1* to indicate any more
specific being allowed. In this notation prefix/len would imply exact
match.

Obviously there is no need to store information in ascii string
format. We want this expressiveness and maybe for display a common
notation would be helpful but not manditory. It might be used in an
implimentation's XML representation or it might not be (an alternative
would be explicit prefix and len tags).

Curtis

Curtis, sounds like an application for the RPSL range operators --

An address prefix range is an address prefix
followed by an optional range operator. The range operators are:

^- is the exclusive more specifics operator; it stands for the more
specifics of the address prefix excluding the address prefix
itself. For example, 128.9.0.0/16^- contains all the more
      specifics of 128.9.0.0/16 excluding 128.9.0.0/16.

^+ is the inclusive more specifics operator; it stands for the more
specifics of the address prefix including the address prefix
itself. For example, 5.0.0.0/8^+ contains all the more specifics
      of 5.0.0.0/8 including 5.0.0.0/8.

^n where n is an integer, stands for all the length n specifics of
the address prefix. For example, 30.0.0.0/8^16 contains all the
more specifics of 30.0.0.0/8 which are of length 16 such as
      30.9.0.0/16.

^n-m where n and m are integers, stands for all the length n to
length m specifics of the address prefix. For example,
30.0.0.0/8^24-32 contains all the more specifics of 30.0.0.0/8
which are of length 24 to 32 such as 30.9.9.96/28.

directories.
This draft is a work item of the Secure Inter-Domain Routing Working Group of the IETF.

Title : A Profile for Route Origin Authorizations (ROA)
	Author(s)	: S. Kent, D. Kong
	Filename	: draft-ietf-sidr-roa-format-00.txt
	Pages : 10
	Date : 2007-2-28

This document defines a standard profile for Route Origin
Authorizations (ROAs). A ROA is a digitally signed object that
provides a means of verifying that an IP address block holder has
authorized an Autonomous System (AS) to originate routes to that
   address block.

This draft is a work item of the Secure Inter-Domain Routing Working Group of the IETF.

Title : An Infrastructure to Support Secure Internet Routing
	Author(s)	: R. Barnes, S. Kent
	Filename	: draft-ietf-sidr-arch-00.txt
	Pages : 16
	Date : 2007-2-28

This document describes an architecture for an infrastructure to
support secure Internet routing. The foundation of this architecture
is a public key infrastructure (PKI) that represents the allocation
   hierarchy of IP address space and Autonomous System Numbers;
certificates from this PKI are used to verify signed objects that
authorize autonomous systems to originate routes for specified IP
address prefixes. The data objects that comprise the PKI, as well as
other signed objects necessary for secure routing, are stored and
disseminated through a distributed repository system. This document
also describes at a high level how this architecture can be used to
add security features to common operations such as IP address space
   allocation and route filter construction.
