All,

please, note that as you all know the SIPBRANDY WG is chartered not to
produce PS specs. So, if we do not provide Ben with some arguments for
making this draft PS, it will *not* be a PS. Comments?

I am not sure what this issue is here I thought we were heading towards
consensus during IETF96 to make the OSRTP draft PS and get the AD's to fix
the charter.

We discussed the possibility of splitting the draft and taking a small
draft to MMUSIC with the normative parts but I think we had consensus that
this did not make sense and we should just fix the charter,

Regards
Andy

Hi Andy,

if you do not see any issue here, then you sure won't have any trouble
responding to Ben's original question below, which is what the ADs are
actually after, right? ;-) Thanks!

Cheers,

Gonzalo

I am not aware that the OSRTP draft violates any normative statements about
using encryption with AVP although there was a discussion at IETF96 about
whether the SDP Answer should contain SAVP if the answerer recognised and
makes use of the a=crypto.

This is why an update to the OSRTP draft has been suggested such that the
answer may contain AVP or SAVP which I think we should accept and if we had
to choose between AVP or SAVP in the answer I think I would fall on the
SAVP side.

Regards
Andy

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the SIP Best-practice Recommendations Against Network Dangers to privacY of the IETF.

Title : An Opportunistic Approach for Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (OSRTP)
        Authors : Alan Johnston
                          Bernard Aboba
                          Andy Hutton
                          Roland Jesske
                          Thomas Stach
	Filename : draft-ietf-sipbrandy-osrtp-01.txt
	Pages : 8
	Date : 2016-10-30

Abstract:
Opportunistic Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (OSRTP) allows
encrypted media to be used in environments where support for
encryption is not known in advance, and not required. OSRTP is an
implementation of Opportunistic Security, as defined in RFC 7435.
OSRTP does not require advanced SDP extensions or features and is
fully backwards compatible with existing secure and insecure
implementations. OSRTP is not specific to any key management
technique for SRTP. OSRTP is a transitional approach useful for
migrating existing deployments of real-time communications to a fully
   encrypted and authenticated state.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the SIP Best-practice Recommendations Against Network Dangers to privacY of the IETF.

Title : Best Practices for Securing RTP Media Signaled with SIP
        Authors : Jon Peterson
                          Eric Rescorla

	Pages : 13
	Date : 2016-10-31

Abstract:
Although the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) includes a suite of
security services that has been expanded by numerous specifications
over the years, there is no single place that explains how to use SIP
to establish confidential media sessions. Additionally, existing
mechanisms have some feature gaps that need to be identified and
resolved in order for them to address the pervasive monitoring threat
model. This specification describes best practices for negotiating
confidential media with SIP, including both comprehensive protection
solutions which bind the media to SIP-layer identities as well as
   opportunistic security solutions.
