A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Softwires of the IETF.

Title : RADIUS Attribute for Softwire Address plus Port based Mechanisms
        Authors : Sheng Jiang
                          Yu Fu
                          Bing Liu

	Filename : draft-ietf-softwire-map-radius-10.txt
	Pages : 21
	Date : 2017-03-09

Abstract:
IPv4-over-IPv6 transition mechanisms provide both IPv4 and IPv6
connectivity services simultaneously during the IPv4/IPv6 co-existing
period. The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol for IPv6 (DHCPv6)
options have been defined to configure Customer Edge (CE) in MAP-E,
MAP-T, and Lightweight 4over6. However, in many networks, the
configuration information may be stored in the Authentication
Authorization and Accounting (AAA) servers, while user configuration
is mainly provided by the Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) through the
DHCPv6 protocol. This document defines a Remote Authentication Dial
In User Service (RADIUS) attribute that carries CE configuration
information from the AAA server to the BNG.

Hi all,

We have updated the new version of draft-ietf-softwire-map-radius.
The main changes are:
1) Added an S46 container option for the DHCPv6 advertise message in the 4th
step in the Figure 1.
2) Fixed some language typos

Your comments are appreciated.
Thanks

BR
Yu

Hi:

The DHC WG will adopt this document. There was good support for it, and no =
one opposed the adoption.

The authors are requested to published the DHC WG -00 version of the draft =
(with the minor fix to reference the correct RFC (RFC7568 -> RFC7598) as po=
inted out by Jordi.

Subject: [dhcwg] Adoption call for draft-fsc-softwire-dhcp4o6-saddr-opt-07 =
- Respond by Mar 8th, 2017

Hi,

This message initiates a two weeks long DHC WG adoption call on:

Title: DHCPv4 over DHCPv6 Source Address Option
Pages: 9
Date: 2017-02-01
Document: draft-fsc-softwire-dhcp4o6-saddr-opt-07
Link: tools.ietf.org/html/draft-fsc-softwire-dhcp4o6-saddr-opt-07

This document initially started as work intended to be adopted in Softwires=
, but after a discussion with chairs, responsible AD (Suresh) and presentin=
g this work in DHC, the conclusion is to aim for DHC adoption, not Softwire=
s. Therefore this is a DHC adoption call.

This message is cross-posted to Softwires to let Softwire experts weigh in =
their opinion. Please be sure to post your comments to DHC list, though. Co=
mments sent by end of March 8th, 2017 are much appreciated.

Bernie & Tomek

Hi,

The structure of the model currently defined in =
draft-ietf-softwire-yang-01 provides a single model for =E2=80=98binding=E2=
=80=99 softwires containing BR and CE. We=E2=80=99ve done some work on =
implementing these models and whilst the BR model is working, the CE =
part is problematic.

While there is all of the relevant configuration parameters data for =
building a softwire, there is no concept of a softwire interface defined =
in the model. This means that there=E2=80=99s no way of configuring the =
CEs routing table to add an IPv4 route via the softwire, as ietf-routing =
requires an interface to be available in the interfaces list to create a =
=E2=80=98simple-next-hop=E2=80=99. Also (to me), this makes the model =
incompatible with the wider YANG interfaces and routing structure.

=46rom the 2 softwire CE implementations that I am familiar with, in =
both cases a tunnel interface is created and this is visible in the =
device=E2=80=99s interfaces list. My thinking is that the softwire YANG =
model would be a lot easier to implement if it followed this convention.

Below is a straw man proposal for a CE specific model which hooks into =
the ietf-interfaces structure. it=E2=80=99s not a complete model with =
all of the functionality (esp. the state data) there at the moment, but =
it shows how the CE=E2=80=99s softwire interface could be modelled, =
making it possible to integrate this with ietf-routing. I used the =
=E2=80=98tunnel=E2=80=99 iftype as it seemed to be the closest match, =
but it may be necessary to define a new =E2=80=98ipip=E2=80=99 type.

I=E2=80=99d appreciate any thoughts on whether this is a better way to =
approach softwire-yang than we are using at the moment. If so, then it =
will mean some restructuring of the models overall. Possibly it would =
make sense to have a common module containing the common grouped =
functions, a separate model for BR and another for CE (the points I make =
above are as valid for an =E2=80=98algorithm=E2=80=99 CE as for a =
=E2=80=98binding=E2=80=99 one).

Cheers,
Ian

Hi Ian, all,

The comments I have about this document are the following:

* Instead of (re)specifying the behavior it would be more appropriate to re=
fer to draft-ietf-softwire-dslite-multicast (RFC8114) when it makes sense (=
e.g., AFBR behavior, address mapping, CP, DP, etc.).=20

* The document says the following:

The mPrefix46 for SSM mode is also defined in Section 4.1 of
   [RFC7371]

This is not true. RFC7371 is about flag bits not MPREFIX64.=20

Instead of referring to RFC7371, adding a pointer to Section 5 of draft-iet=
f-softwire-dslite-multicast would make sense.=20

Cheers,
Med

This document specifies a solution for the delivery of IPv4 multicast
services to IPv4 clients over an IPv6 multicast network. The
solution relies upon a stateless IPv4-in-IPv6 encapsulation scheme
and uses an IPv6 multicast distribution tree to deliver IPv4
multicast traffic. The solution is particularly useful for the
delivery of multicast service offerings to customers serviced by
Dual-Stack Lite (DS-Lite).

This document is a product of the Softwires Working Group of the IETF.

This is now a Proposed Standard.

STANDARDS TRACK: This document specifies an Internet Standards Track
protocol for the Internet community, and requests discussion and suggestions
for improvements. Please refer to the current edition of the Official
Internet Protocol Standards (https://www.rfc-editor.org/standards) for the
standardization state and status of this protocol. Distribution of this

Hi,

Here is my review of the draft.

Cheers,
Ian

Technical/General Comments

4. Mechanism Overview
"When the I-IPv6 PIM message arrives at the upstream AFBR, it MUST be =
translated back into an E-IPv4 PIM message."

As this is in the overview, it doesn't seem the right place to specify =
the MUST behavior. Section 5 covers this
in detail. Suggest replacing MUST with 'is'.

5.5 Inter-AFBR Signaling
This section states that an RP' SHOULD NOT process messages on it's =
incoming interface,
by introducing an interface agent. However, at this point the text =
becomes vague as to
whether it is mandatory to have an interface agent implementation. If =
you are saying
that you should not do something then it would follow there needs to be =
an equivalent statement of=20
what you should do instead.

Also the functionality of the interface agent is only described as how =
it MAY work. This also
seems vague. It would be better to describe what the behavior is with =
RFC2119 language, and
then state something along the lines of 'the mechanism used to achieve =
this is left to the
implementation, the following diagram provides a possible solution', or =
words to that effect.

6.2 Selecting a Tunneling Technology
"some AFBRs SHALL not" - The RFC2119 'SHALL' isn't really necessary to =
describe how the mechanism is required to fail if a requirement isn't =
met.
'will' would be a better word to describe the effects.

Sections 6.2 and Section 8 seem to be repetitions. Suggest that they are =
combined into a single section.

Language/Grammar=20

Abstract - Prosed re-word for readability:

The Internet needs to support IPv4 and IPv6 packets. Both address
families and their related protocol suites support multicast of the
single-source and any-source varieties. During the transition to =
IPv6,
there will be scenarios where a backbone network running one IP
address family internally (referred to as the Internal IP or I-IP) =
will
provide transit services to client networks running another
IP address family (referred to as the External IP or E-IP). It is
expected that the I-IP backbone will offer unicast and multicast
transit services to the client E-IP networks.

Softwire Mesh is a solution that provides E-IP unicast and multicast
support across an I-IP backbone. This document describes a
mechanism for supporting Internet-style multicast across a set of
E-IP and I-IP networks supporting softwire mesh. We focus on the =
IPv4-
over-IPv6 scenario in this document, due to lack of real-world use
   cases for the IPv6-over-IPv4 scenario.

Section 1
Suggest
'..one or more ingress AFBR' is replaced with
'..one or more Address Family Border Router (AFBR)' for clarity.

Last sentence, last paragraph:
"We focus on IPv4-over-IPv6 scenario in this document, due to lack of
real-world use cases for IPv6-over-IPv4 scenario."
Suggest this is deleted as it is a repetition from the abstract.

2. Terminology

Replace=20
o Upstream AFBR: The AFBR router...
o Downstream AFBR: The AFBR router...
With
o Upstream AFBR: An AFBR router...
o Downstream AFBR: An AFBR router...

3. Scenarios of Interest

This document focus on IPv4-over-IPv6 scenario, however, the
following mechanism offers a reference for IPv6-over-IPv4 scenario if
   needed.

This is confusing, as what follows is a diagram of 4over6 mesh m/c. Is =
it
left in from a previous version of the draft?

4.3 Source Address Mapping

Replace
Considering that I-IP network...
With=20
Considering that the I-IP network...

5.5 Inter-AFBR Signalling
Replace
"and decide to perform a SPT switchover"
with
"and decides to perform an SPT switchover"

5.6 SPT Switchover
"After a new AFBR expresses its interest in receiving traffic..." sounds =
a little=20
anthropomorphic to me:-) Would "After a new AFBR requests the receipt of =
traffic..."
be better?

"...thus no more redundancy will be produced." Is redundancy the right =
word here?
Would 'unnecessary duplication' be better?

5.7 Other PIM Message Types
Replace
'Apart from Join or Prune...'
With
'In addition to Join and Prune...''

6.2 Selecting a Tunneling Technology
Replace
'Choosing tunneling technology'
with
'Choosing a tunneling technology'

6.3 TTL
Suggest 'Processing of TTL' is changed to 'Processing of TTL information =
in protocol headers'
or similar for clarity.

Figure 7 Text
This paragraph is quite long and dense and so is difficult to follow. =
Suggest
that it's broken into shorter paragraphs, or possibly number the diagram =
and
then have the text as a corresponding numbered list.

However, in many networks, the
configuration information may be stored in an Authentication
Authorization and Accounting (AAA) server, while user configuration
information is mainly provided by the Broadband Network Gateway (BNG)
through the DHCPv6 protocol. This document defines two new Remote
Authentication Dial In User Service (RADIUS) attributes that carry CE
configuration information from an AAA server to BNG.

Abstract:
The Internet needs to support IPv4 and IPv6 packets. Both address
families and their related protocol suites support multicast of the
   single-source and any-source varieties. During IPv6 transition,
there will be scenarios where a backbone network running one IP
address family internally (referred to as internal IP or I-IP) will
provide transit services to attached client networks running another
IP address family (referred to as external IP or E-IP). It is
expected that the I-IP backbone will offer unicast and multicast
transit services to the client E-IP networks.

Softwire Mesh is a solution providing E-IP unicast and multicast
support across an I-IP backbone. This document describes the
mechanism for supporting Internet-style multicast across a set of
E-IP and I-IP networks supporting softwire mesh. We focus on IPv4-
over-IPv6 scenario in this document, due to lack of real-world use
   cases for IPv6-over-IPv4 scenario.
