A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Secure Telephone Identity Revisited WG of the IETF.

Title : PASSporT SHAKEN Extension (SHAKEN)
        Authors : Chris Wendt
                          Mary Barnes
	Filename : draft-ietf-stir-passport-shaken-08.txt
	Pages : 8
	Date : 2019-03-10

Abstract:
This document extends PASSporT, which is a token object that conveys
cryptographically-signed information about the participants involved
in communications. The extension is defined, corresponding to the
SHAKEN specification, to provide both a specific set of levels-of-
confidence in the correctness of the originating identity for a SIP
based Communication Service Provider (CSP) telephone network
originated call as well as an identifier that allows the CSP to
uniquely identify the origin of the call within its network.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Secure Telephone Identity Revisited WG of the IETF.

Title : STIR Out-of-Band Architecture and Use Cases
        Authors : Eric Rescorla
                          Jon Peterson
	Filename : draft-ietf-stir-oob-04.txt
	Pages : 24
	Date : 2019-03-11

Abstract:
The PASSporT format defines a token that can be carried by signaling
protocols, including SIP, to cryptographically attest the identify of
callers. Not all telephone calls use Internet signaling protocols,
however, and some calls use them for only part of their signaling
path. This document describes use cases that require the delivery of
PASSporT objects outside of the signaling path, and defines
architectures and semantics to provide this functionality.

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Secure Telephone Identity Revisited WG of the IETF.

Title : PASSporT Extension for Rich Call Data
        Authors : Jon Peterson
                          Chris Wendt
	Filename : draft-ietf-stir-passport-rcd-03.txt
	Pages : 15
	Date : 2019-03-11

Abstract:
This document extends PASSporT, a token for conveying
   cryptographically-signed information about personal communications,
to include rich data that can be rendered to users, such as a human-
readable display name comparable to the "Caller ID" function common
on the telephone network. The element defined for this purpose is
extensible to include related information about calls that helps
people decide whether to pick up the phone.

This generally seems like a sane approach. We should make sure that it's
clear that an RP *always* needs to verify that TNAuthLists scope for STIR
certificates. That may already be in there, but it wasn't obvious to me on
a quick skim. In particular, it seems like this doc needs to formally
update RFC 8226.

I would prefer if CA certificates were distinct from PASSporT-signing
certificates, but if it's really not tolerable to have one more hop in the
chain, I can probably live with it.

The IESG has approved the following document:
- 'PASSporT SHAKEN Extension (SHAKEN)'
  (draft-ietf-stir-passport-shaken-08.txt) as Proposed Standard

This document is the product of the Secure Telephone Identity Revisited
Working Group.

The IESG contact persons are Adam Roach, Alexey Melnikov and Ben Campbell.

A URL of this Internet Draft is:
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-stir-passport-shaken/

Technical Summary

This document extends PASSporT, which is a token object that conveys
cryptographically-signed information about the participants involved
in communications, to include information defined as part of the
SHAKEN specification from ATIS (Alliance for Telecommunications
Industry Solutions) and the SIP Forum IP-NNI Joint Task Force. These
extensions provide a level of confidence in the correctness of the
originating identity for a telephone network that has communications
coming from both STIR participating originating communications as
well as communications that does not include STIR information.

Working Group Summary

This document is a product of the STIR working group.
No aspects of the document were particularly controversial.

Document Quality

There are implementations of this document, and multiple
governmental agencies have specified regulations calling for
  it deployment.

JWT claims registration review was requested 18 Oct 2018.

Personnel

Robert Sparks is the document shepherd.
Adam Roach is the responsible area director.

Hi,

I read most of the RFCs/I-Ds on STIR and SHAKEN, but I could not find inf=
ormation on how to process a SIP URI in the info parameter of an Identity=
 header attribute.

RFC 8226 states that "three URI schemes are REQUIRED: the CID URI, the SI=
P URI, and the HTTP URI." The CID URI is pretty much self-explanatory, H=
TTP URI is explained a bit more in ATIS-1000082, but I could not find a d=
ocument that describes the mechanism when using SIP. RFC 8226 also says =
that the SIP mechanism is via SUBSCRIBE/NOTIFY but I think that there is =
still a lot there that is missing if one hope to implement an interoperab=
le verification service based on SIP SUBSCRIBE/NOTIFY.

Is there a document that I overlooked?

Thanks.
