FYI,

since we're streaming both sessions via Meetecho today, and since one
will follow the other immediately, to make things easier and smoother
in the transition we'll use the AVTEXT Jabber room for the streaming of
STRAW as well.

Hi Hadriel,
Apologies for not being very clear with my comment about lack of clarity :-=
)

The draft describes behaviour for a UAC, B2BUA, and UAS. Is the paragraph b=
elow from clause 3.1 an instruction to a B2BUA implementer on how to proces=
s Max-Forwards or a warning that some B2BUAs will cause the mechanism to fa=
il?

A couple of other small questions, is the first sentence "As currently defi=
ned in [RFC3261], the UAS half of a B2BUA does not technically need to insp=
ect the Max-Forwards header field value for received requests - only Proxie=
s do. " needed? Also, regarding complying with [draft-loop-detection] does =
a B2BUA need to do more than "inspect the value in order to prevent loops, =
as well as copy and decrement the value as if it were a Proxy"? If so it wo=
uld be good to say something like ", therefore a B2BUA supporting the trace=
route mechanism defined in this document MUST also comply with the Max-Forw=
ards behaviour and all other procedures in [draft-loop-detection]"

Rgds,
Peter

Hi Hadriel,
My confusion with 3.1 came from the mixture of introductory description (th=
e UAS half of a B2BUA does not technically need to inspect the Max-Forwards=
header) with normative specification in the same paragraph, but I accept t=
hat the MUST makes it clear which is which. The other comments related to p=
otentially shortening the text a little and not to errors or ambiguity.

Thanks for the answers, I have no more comments.

Peter

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Sip Traversal Required for Applications to Work Working Group of the IETF.

Title : A Media-based Traceroute Function for the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)
        Author : Hadriel Kaplan
	Filename : draft-ietf-straw-sip-traceroute-02.txt
	Pages : 6
	Date : 2014-03-11

Abstract:
SIP already provides the ability to perform hop-by-hop traceroute
for SIP messages using the Max-Forwards header field, in order to
determine the reachability path of requests to a target. A
mechanism for media-loopback calls has also been defined separately,
which enables test calls to be generated which result in media being
looped back to the originator. This document describes a means of
performing hop-by-hop traceroute-style test calls using the media-
loopback mechanism, in order to test the media path when SIP
   sessions go through media-relaying B2BUAs.

The IETF datatracker status page for this draft is:
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-straw-sip-traceroute/

There's also a htmlized version available at:
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-straw-sip-traceroute-02

A diff from the previous version is available at:
http://www.ietf.org/rfcdiff?url2=draft-ietf-straw-sip-traceroute-02

Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of submission
until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP at:

Please do NOT crosspost. If you want this document to be considered by the
DISPATCH WG process, then please keep the discussion there. Right now,
this email is cached with my SIPCORE WG emails since the IETF mailing lists
do NOT send duplicate messages. So it's very likely that I will miss any
discussion that might be relevant to making a decision in the DISPATCH WG.
The right thing to do is to have the discussion on the DISPATCH WG mailing
list and send a note to any related WGs that the discussion is underway on
the DISPATCH WG mailing list.

Thanks,
Mary.

Hi Christer, All,
I have checked through the -02 version and I found a few small things:

[line 193 - 195, clause 3. 3. The SIP Traceroute Mechanism]
Says "The originating UAC can then generate another INVITE to the same targ=
et AoR with a Max-Forwards header field value of 1, which will reach the se=
cond SIP, and so on."
Some text is missing here. I guess that a Max-Forwards of 1 will reach the =
next SIP entity that decrements Max-Forwards, which could be a proxy or B2B=
UA.

[line 205]
"Enterprise and a Service Provider across a SIP Trunk" should be lower case=
: "enterprise and a service provider across a SIP trunk"

[line 225]
Contains a reference to [draft-loop-detection]. I don't know if this is a p=
roblem but how is the link to a draft in progress kept valid if the draft b=
ecomes an RFC?

Regards,
Peter

I have submitted a draft that discusses the problem posed by B2BUA intermed=
iaries for out of dialog requests that are related to another dialog and id=
entifies some possible solutions.

It can be found at:

http://www.ietf.org/id/draft-allen-dispatch-routing-out-of-dialog-request-0=
0.txt

I would like to receive comments on this and a view as to where such work s=
hould be dispatched to.

Andrew
