Noted. Just to be clear, the modifications to the most recent version of
the draft were made primarily to eliminate the impression that we were
trying to "race" security protocols under the assumption that they are
somehow equivalent or even abstractable, which we know isn't the case. The
main goal of incorporating security into TAPS is primarily to provide a
modern, consistent, portable interface to the extent possible, not to
provide a developer with the illusion of security simply by flipping a
switch.

Agreed (a good example being the OSI layer abstraction, which we run into
here and which fails miserably in many common cases), but---under the
assumption that the problem TAPS is trying to solve is a useful one---a
simplified taxonomy motivating an interface that can accommodate the vast
majority of use cases for our target community is a prerequisite.

Good point. We could discuss the tradeoff between performance and security
that DJB was trying to achieve, but that is probably out-of-scope for this
document, so we should stick to a value-free description (e.g., "based
entirely on public key algorithms") and let it go with that.

If I'm reading you correctly, this is not right. For compatibility with
middleboxes, tcpcrypt runs within the TCP bytestream, just like TLS, and
requires reassembly before the tcpcrypt TLV record layer can be parsed.

Hello,

I just want to drop the note that there is a trivial implemenation of
Taps for the Nim programming language. The Nim network API is currently
pretty thin C wrappers over sockets, so as Taps matures I think it will
be an attractive API to Nim community.

https://git.sr.ht/~ehmry/nim_taps

Cheers,
Emery

Dear Emery,

Thank you for implementing TAPS and for dropping a note to the list.
Always excited to see more implementations!

If you have any comments on the drafts, e.g., if anything seems unclear
in the Implementation draft, please feel free to open an issue on our
Github https://github.com/ietf-tapswg/api-drafts/issues or to send your
questions and comments to the list.
Thanks!

Best,
Theresa

We’re having a call on Friday (11am US ET). The goals of the call are
to resolve any open issues that would prevent -arch from going to last
call. We can also use the time to resolve any open issues on -security.

Can the authors for -arch and -security outline topics to discuss?

Then we can see if there will be time to talk about open issues on
-interface and -impl.

The remaining architecture issue covers nits, but there=E2=80=99s a discussi=

	Filename : draft-ietf-taps-arch-06.txt
	Pages : 27
	Date : 2019-12-23

Abstract:
This document describes an architecture for exposing transport
protocol features to applications for network communication, the
Transport Services architecture. The Transport Services Application
Programming Interface (API) is based on an asynchronous, event-driven
interaction pattern. It uses messages for representing data transfer
to applications, and it assumes an implementation that can use
multiple IP addresses, multiple protocols, and multiple paths, and
provide multiple application streams. This document further defines
common terminology and concepts to be used in definitions of
   Transport Services APIs and implementations.
