However, as both a chair and a contributor, and I find it difficult to correlate some milestones with some I-Ds. A quick solution is to add the filename to the milestone, "Submit an Informational document on tea prices in China, draft-ietf-tea-prices-china" A more involved solution is to have the working group's charter page include a hotlink to the specific draft, simliar to what is done in the Internet-Drafts section and in the Request For Comments section. We could certainly suggest to the secretariat that when a draft name is included among the milestones, it should be automagically converted to a link. Um, sure. But that is a short amount of time. But at some point a document is created to correspond to the milestone. When that occurs, we have no record of it, and folks are stuck with guessing, doing human pattern matching of filenames and titles, etc. Groups with many active milestones would especially benefit from this. For example, take a look at http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/sip-charter.html and consider the difficulty in determining which document might be related to "MIME body handling in SIP to IESG" -- you can't tell if there is a working group document (draft-ietf-sip-*) or if it's a milestone with some waiting-in-the-wings contending individidual documents, or what. Probably the assignment of I-D names to milestones should be done by the WG chairs (I don't think there is a need for AD/IESG involvement). WG chairs already have a reporting scheme for the milestones, why don't we simply report the draft names as well? I had a fun week trying to figure out which milestones correspond to which document when I took over my current set of WGs, especially for cases where the charters had become, um, stale. If there is a draft (or multiple drafts) associated with a milestone, the name should be included. We haven't been good about this. We've been better about including the intended status of a draft in the milestone, because that's typically also not recorded elsewhere. Better tools support for milestones is pretty high on my wish list. For example, I'd be great if the WG status page would flag drafts that are past their milestones, etc. Something for the code bash... We've found that after the migration, the datatracker is running on the wrong version of the Django framework, which is likely to cause some minor bugs (like this one), and is known to produce at least one major problem. Bill and I have been in touch with the AMS folks, and there is a plan to move over to the right Django release, which should fix this and any other changes in appearance and behaviour caused by the migration. I had some problems logging in after I had set my password; apparently the username is case-sensitive (which makes sense), but the signup-form silently lowercases it. So when you register with an e-mail address that has capitals in it, the username you end up with is not the same as the one you entered. Not the biggest problem in the world, but it confused me for a bit there. Of course the e-mail you get shows the correct login name, but one tends to skip over that if it looks anything alike. So if there's going to be some work done on this part too, I propose to either let it not lowercase, error if one enters capitals, or be very very clear about what it does there. Anyway -- there's another issue here, which isn't at all obvious from the outside, so I might as well go over it here: There are a number of individual servers which handle the various sub-domains of ietf.org, and the primary focus (although it doesn't at all have to be the only one) for the Code Sprint is to work on the Django based code, in part because that's the one which we have come furthest in open-sourcing. Here's the layout of the most important domains and servers from a tools perspective: www.ietf.org - is currently one machine, before the AMS transition it used to be split on multiple machines. datatracker.ietf.org - also used to be a separate machine; at the moment it is the same as www.ietf.org, but that could change tools.ietf.org - 3 servers capable of serving the same pages, running the same scripts, mostly Python and Bash. Normally the NS records for tools.ietf.org points out 2 of them, while the 3rd is a development server and here's what they are serving, and the type of pages: www.ietf.org - static pages and pages generated from cron-jobs datatracker.ietf.org/cgi-bin/* - old perl cgi-bin scripts which will gradually be re-written to use Django datatracker.ietf.org/* - interface to the ietf database, written in Django/Python tools.ietf.org - almost all pages generated by cron-jobs running Python, Bash, or html-embedded Python (.pyht files). The major exception is the wiki pages, which are mod_python (Trac). However, it sounds like a marvellous idea for the Philly Code Sprint to provide the information in the database in a format which would be more easily accessible. I've done some work on a table-format prototype, (http://merlot.tools.ietf.org:31415/ipr/list-specific/) but for your purpose XML or CSV would maybe be better? Would you like to propose a format? The html pages are somewhat opaque, and it isn't clear to me if each field has its own database column, or whether all ipr information (in html) for a particular id is stored as one big entry. As for xml or csv, I don't have a strong preference. If html code is stored in the database, xml will be rather ugly. If you give an example of a database row for one ipr notification, I can suggest some text format for it. Are you using a sql database? A big question for me is also whether the information is immutable, or whether each ipr notification can be modified. This affects whether I need to mirror all ipr information every time, and time stamp it, or whether I can just look for new id's. It seems right now that notifications can be modified in the sense that they can be deleted. The filename is consistent with=20 previous names: draft-touch-msword-template-v2.0-06.txt I was not able to submit this via the tool; the tool excludes filenames=20 that include ".". I was not able to submit the file without the ".",=20 since it did not look like the next in the series from -05. It might be useful for the tool to allow filenames that are in series=20 with previous ones, even if they fail the character type test. That's fixed in my latest version at: https://svn.resiprocate.org/rep/ietf-drafts/ekr/getdrafts.pl which tries to look for all the possible extensions, as well is somewhat more aggressive about dealing with bogus draft version numbers. Henrik, I see you've made some changes in the version you're distributing off the tools Web site. It would be good if we by default could have Option MultiViews on in the Apache config -- not only would it fix the problem below, but knowing that this was set, we could start transitioning to URLs without specified extensions, which would permit more flexibility in changing between dynamically created pages and static pages in the future.
