A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the TURN Revised and Modernized of the IETF.

	Date : 2017-03-13

Abstract:
Session Traversal Utilities for NAT (STUN) is a protocol that serves
as a tool for other protocols in dealing with Network Address
Translator (NAT) traversal. It can be used by an endpoint to
determine the IP address and port allocated to it by a NAT. It can
also be used to check connectivity between two endpoints, and as a
keep-alive protocol to maintain NAT bindings. STUN works with many
existing NATs, and does not require any special behavior from them.

STUN is not a NAT traversal solution by itself. Rather, it is a tool
to be used in the context of a NAT traversal solution.

   This document obsoletes RFC 5389.

* s/URL/URI/
* The "nonce cookie" is now mandatory to signal that SHA256 must be used =
in the next transaction.

	Date : 2017-03-31

We do not have any pending item in our TODO list, and we think that this =
draft is ready for the next step of the publication.

Thanks.

Changelog:

* Clarifies the procedure to define a new hash algorithm for message-inte=
grity.
* Explain the procedure to deprecate SHA1 as message-integrity.
* Added procedure for Happy Eyeballs (RFC 6555).
* Added verification that Happy Eyeballs works in the STUN Usage checklis=
t.
* Add reference to Base64 RFC.
* Changed co-author affiliation.

STUN is supporting IPv6 since RFC 5389, so we do not think that much chan=
ged there and we left the text in the introduction as it was.

We updated the text to follow the advices in RFC 6555. That was done in =
3 places:

- Section 8, to explain what to do after processing according to RFC 2782=
 and on a domain name.
- Section 12, to explain what to do with the NAT Discovery Usage.
- Section 13, updating the list of things that other STUN Usage should do=
, in that case explain what to do with IPv6 and IPv4 addresses.

We'll leave it to icebis and turnbis to do the same for their respective =
STUN Usages.

Thanks.

Elegant. You are not solving the problem but tell the authors of STUN =
usages to solve the problem :-)

Note that RFC 6555 has a focus on connection-oriented transports and =
pretty much leaves old UDP in the cold.
"The mechanism described in this document is directly applicable to
connection-oriented transports (e.g., TCP, SCTP), which is the scope
   of this document. =E2=80=9C

It continues with: "For connectionless transport protocols (e.g.,
UDP), a similar mechanism can be used if the application has request/
response semantics (e.g., as done by Interactive Connectivity
Establishment (ICE) to select a working IPv6 or IPv4 media path
   [RFC6157])."

Which may mean that STUN/UDP is covered.

/O
